Right , now that my hands a lot better i finally got it into the workshop, doing things totally backwards i fitted the new headlights, indicator lenses front and back new brake light bulbs and a new number plate and reflectors i decided to have a look at the brakes,
Front nearside first ,undone the wheel nuts which were not the tightest , and then got totally distracted ,However i did get a look at the engine number that clive asked me for to find out more details about the pig
Engine number 8172 , i hope i remembered it , anyway out tonight but hope to get an early start in the morning

Hi all just had my dad up to look at the pig he's ex RASC and he brought up a point .
Do i need to add one of the lead substitutes to the unleaded fuel in the tank
like these sort of things
http://www.classic-spares.com/category1.php?c1_id=38&c1_name=Fuel%20Additives
or is just straight unleaded in the tank ?
And why do you need to in old cars ? valve ware? pistons ?

Jamie, the main brass vehicle plate can be found if you look inside the front nearside/passenger side wheel arch, if you look between the steering swivel housing and where the upper wishbone is attached to the chassis, you should find a plate about 6x4 inches, on it will be allsorts of useful information, including the vehicle registration mark when it was in the Army, and it should tell you exactly what it is you have.
And then post it here, cos we like that sort of thing! :yay:
Been in, under, around and upside down to try and find a number but to no a vale, Clive suggested the engine number under the manifold but i've knackered my wrist and will be out of action for a bit so i'll have another look when Im not so fragile . And no it wasn't mucking about with the pig that did it.

What sizes are the plugs and the lead ends?

You would be surprised i got a custom spanner to do a john deer tractor and it was £75 new to my spec which was really a17mm combination spanner with the open end missing with a 1/2 " socket end on it and the ring bent 90 degrees to get in behind the altenator .
Saved a lot of ******* and lost knuckles so please dont rule it out but
looks similar to one of the tools

If your really stuck try the local snap on man
here
something like this
http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/tools.asp?tool=hand&Group_ID=1347&store=uk'>http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/tools.asp?tool=hand&Group_ID=1347&store=uk'>http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/tools.asp?tool=hand&Group_ID=1347&store=uk
or
or
http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/tools.asp?tool=hand&Group_ID=1347&store=uk
Yes they are really expensive but ,buy well ,buy once or something like that , and they make tools to your specification a thing a lot of peple do not know
Or their cheaper range bluepoint made by snap on
or try
high quality tools fairly cheap
or does anyone on the forums not do a tool loan service for just this sort of thing ???
maybe i should start it ???

A few more photos...
I take it the ones with the police car in them were taken during the fire brigade strikes in the 70's-80's.
When the green godesses had a police escort with them .

would the larger size fit a humber pig or is it the smaller one ?
-
No luck on the plate yet as I've tweaked my back out again so onto other things.
Where can i get a workshop manual for the pig , and
what is the best way to clean out fuel tanks that are rusty inside any pointers would be helpful.
