I believe this to be a Selene axle or Schindler as they bought out Selene in the 70's. If you google Selene 4WD or Schindler 4WD then you should be able to scroll down the list until you find the pictures site, have a look here.

I thought it might be Latin but also found nothing on the net. The other thing I came up with is a bit tenuous but.... As Capt Clapperton was the senior officer in the sqdn after the sqdn commander, Maj Crisp and moved up to HQ when needed, I compared the names of the HQ troop tanks to find a link. They were:-

 

ANWENOIT

ANWECANDOIT

ANSODOWE

 

Obviously a corruption of And we know it etc. and I wondered if my tank had been named as a follow on such as 'And us'. This would have course been abbreviated to ANUS so would have needed to be changed or at least modified a bit! I'd hate to think my tank was named arsehole....:red:

Perhaps not in quite the same vein but equally stupid, I own a 1971 tractor and, apart from when I bought it, I have always taxed it online. That being real easy as no MOT required, only insurance and its also free, due to age I suppose. For the first couple of years the tax disc came back as AG MCHNE (Machine) and no more was heard. This year I did the same and it came back as before AG MCHNE. About a month later I received a letter stating ...... Our record shows there is a difference between the information sent to us by the issuing Post Office and that on the tax disc for your vehicle.

The upshot of all this is that they sent me a replacement tax disc and its now classed as an HISTORIC. I had to return the offending tax disc!

As it involves spuds is it instant mash/smash?

The ship looks in pretty good shape, and here in Greece we fear that the legendary HMS Ark Royal will end up to Turkish Navy fleet.:-(

I was under the impression that when she came in, from her final military voyage, lots of bits were removed in a hurry, I cannot substantiate this information though

I would have to say that the definitive answer is (in no particular order) 'yes, no, maybe, possibly'.

Yes I have, but it is not much to look at from the back. The museum is now open but the official launch is next week I think. I had a sneek peek inside the other day and it is really good.

I didn't think it was that much to look at from any angle. Spent 6 months approx watching it go up, at meal times, wondering who would finish first them or me as I was rewiring the Victory at the time.

You must have a good view of the 'new' Mary Rose building from there? Is it open to the public yet?

Out of curiosity seeing as there appear to be quite a lot of brass fittings to these engines, are they painted or left in the raw so to speak? My personal view is that they would have been painted as bright shiny bits on a military lorry wouldn't do, but what do I know?

I have a spare parts catalogue for 1938 for the Fordson N and same for a 1945-47 E27N and neither of them list a tool roll/bag, both models had a large capacity toolbox negating the need for a tool roll/bag.

Going by the prefix letter B-17005 its possible that the design of tool roll was for the model B car originally :???

can you tell us a bit more about the 17 pdr you have mentioned,its location and are the any pictures ? Fort Nelson does not have a 17 pdr at the Museum so it would seem a strange thing that if they owned one to lend it out rather than keep it at the Fort !

I'm a little curious to know where the 17pdr came from in Pompey, presuming Fort Nelson, but could be a number of other places I suppose?

I presume these were taken at Singleton last weekend 26/7 May? My parents were there with a small display of lead farm horse drawn and animals by Britains etc. My mum took a few pictures of the Military horse drawn but they didn't come out too good. They really enjoyed this display though, something different.

I was introduced to this site by a member on another forum. The only military vehicles I own are by Dinky Toys, from my childhood. My main interest here is in the Great War and the vehicles used then.........so few survivors :-( What there are look to be in good hands though, with some excellent restoration blogs.
