  1. Maybe I dont have an overheating problem as such then, when yours boils does it discharge water through the pressure releif valve? The only way I knew I had a problem was because the dizzy got covered in water from the filler cap and the engine cut out.

  2. Hi I have recently aquired a K9 and also appear to have overheating problems. I am getting water out of the filler cap as opposed to the over pressure valve is this the same on yours or is it possible that my filler cap is not sealing properly do you think? I did find that the water temperature was not that high, after about 5 mins of stranding it felt only warm when i put my finger in it, although the temp gauge was showing 212 F when I pulled over.

  3. You're wecome, how original is your truck, mine has been re-wired and while the electrics function (most of the time) they are hardly original looking. I am intending to try and reistate a more original look and would appreciate any pics of the correct layout of the control box and any fuse/terminal boxes on the bulk head on the drivers side. The workshop manual has some layout illustrations but they are so small as to be useless unfortunately.

  4. My first boss used anti aircraft gun and predictor parts to make theatrical revolve control systems back in the 60s. If I remember the revolve for the original production of "Oliver" was done like this, I have vague memories of setting it all up when it went into the Albery Theatre in the late 70s. You had a knob to turn on the control to set the required position, and when you pressed the go button the revolve turned to match the position the knob was pointed to.

  5. I believe the IWM unit is complete. Of course he could just ask me for copies of the original interior layout illustrations, which I have somewhere .... :D

    It is indeed 90% complete, with radio kit as well, the only un-restored part is the cab but its all basically there. I have the stowage diags of the LP, version which is what the Duxford one is, if you would like copies.

Having been asked by a friend to see if I could get one of these made I have a price for a batch of 10, they are not cheap coming in at £60, the one off price is £90, if I can get the quantity above 10 then the price may well come down a bit more.If anyone is interested could they please let me know.

  7. There were definitely two of these used on the Royal Tournament in either 89 or 90. The guys in charge of them had a nasty habit of parking them on the bottom of the curtains that formed the back drop that year, as the curtains were 80 feet high and 120 feet long each side (they were, and probably still are, the biggest set of theatrical curtain in the world) when I tried to open them there would be a nasty tearing sound, as the curtains were so big and heavy once the first few ties holding them up had gone the domino effect came into play. Needless to say the searchlights were not very popular with the riggers.

    We also used a couple as "follow spots" to pick up Concorde when it flew up the Thames for the BA share launch.

Sorry to report that from a vehicle point of view it was a bit of a washout, very little of interest on view, just a couple of Bedford J types and a few 1970's transits, all the old buses are gone. There was what appeared to be the remains of an Amazon sticking out of a tree opposite the aviation museum entrance. The Lancaris war rooms in Valleta are worth a visit, as are the war museum and the aircraft museum. On Gozo I did spot an garden full of red Minis.

  9. every Snatch that Whitams have handled seems to have a bent prop! standard 110 one fits, Windscreens are difficult to find, check whats wrong with yours, if its a layer of dirt that can't be cleaned off it may be that the plastic and glass have separated, in which case it might be possible to remove the glass and separate the two layers completely and clean them but this is not guaranteed, some times they wont come apart completely. Most of the automotive parts are standard.

On June 9th Nether Heyford in Northamptonshire is holding its annual village fete, this is usually attended by a dozen or so classic vehicles, I shall be showing the Snatch and the lightweight, if any one would like to come along its a fairly relaxed and low key event held on a very "midsummer" village green, things usually kick off about lunch time so aim to be there before 12.00. If any one wants to come please let me know so I can give the organisers an idea of numbers.

  12. Just had the Merlin report for 05HH57. They both have an entry for UIN CA010A - Unknown within a couple of months of each other followed by an entry for A0419A - 30 signals Regt on the same day, since the time scale matches with Op Prosrerous, and 30 sigs was the British unit deployed there it would seem reasonable that they were taken on to the books for return to the UK. As it seems likely that the markings I found on it relate to the Finnish army an e-mail to Finland seems on the cards.

  13. Toby, I've been looking for one for mine without much success, but I do have a couple of bits relating to civilian ones if thats any help. Most of mine appears to be working fine so we may be able to compare systems if you need specific information

  14. I've been trying to track down some suitable wire sheathed cable for some work I'm doing on the IWM's Dorchester. The best that I've found so far is a heat resisting cable from Lapp Cable, its just a bit oversized for my aplication. In the past I've used some seperate woven steel sleeving (not sure where it came from may have been RS, I had it lying around after another project) over ordinary HO7 twin core, good for short lenghts but the sleeving was only in 1m lenghts.
