  1. Most Mk3's were broken up, so I am not hopeful that it has survived....I don't know, does anyone else?

The date most commonly given for the last Antar in service is 30th Jan 1985.

In the mid 80s I visited a beakers yard in Barnsley. They said that they had striped down dozens of Antar's and containerised them for export but would not say where.

  2. Hi Kev

I had Mk 2s do this to me on a number of occasions when road testing vehicles that had been in storage for long periods. The engine would start, run well with bags of power then drop off and fail, but start up after a short period. The main culprits were the choke casing seals, which had dried and shrunk allowing air to pass. Once the engine was up to temp the main jet could not cope with the constant air bleeding into the mixture. The other contenders are the fuel pumps. There are as you know two independent units. But they are linked to each other and each carburettor, so that if one fails the other will supply fuel. The one that did this to me had a pump with a crack across the valve face, that rendered it unable to move fuel. The other pump did the work but had a valve sticking issue once it got warm.

  3. Hi Jimmy

I was at FEC from the tender age of 16 to 1984 ending up in the test section for six of them, testing Antars and Stalwarts and all the other Tonkers that past our way. I had to pinch myself some times after a day of playing with some of the equipment in the name of proof testing and being paid for the pleasure.

What's your Dads name I will have worked with him?

  4. Hi. Yes this is Fazakerley Engineering Company in Liverpool. (Williams Motor Co) This photo was taken by some visiting 16 Tank guys in about 76/77. The skinny ginger in the background is me.

The photo is four Mk3's setting off for Marchwood, the second vehicle is me on my 1st delivery outing the day after I got my class 1 HGV.
