PaulChecked the shed, nothing there!! We did have loose wheel bearings though. I rememeber them well as my sister dropped one through the bottom of bath when we were kids.Checked in with my Dad, all the spares went to RLC Burscough (was REME Command) Workshops when Fazakerley closed. I have it on good authority there were plenty of bits loaded on the transporters going there. With Burscough shut the parts are either skipped or knowing what happens with MoD ILS they are still there but in another depot. Long shot but I might know which. Will PM you.Cheers
Do you mean Daysbrook?

Things have been very Quiet? (recently)
Note that the advert has gone from Milweb.
Regards.
But not telling just yet.......
Suffice to say that the outcome should suit everyone who has taken an interest!

Looks fantastic, we had full panel shop facilities and would baulk at making the towers. The stores always won the toss.

Hi,
as promised, pictures of the floor in mine. as you can see she is still solid, just a bit pitted in places. these are from the worst side.
i stripped it, cleaned it, de-rusted it (rust converter for the small dimples i missed) then primed it with anti rust and gave it a top coat.
it will need doing eventually, as i want it to be perfect, but as she is kept under cover there is no major rush, it will be a winter job, probably next year. :nut:
cheers

Hi
Lovely work on the panels.
There is a corrosion weak spot forward of the cab bulkhead both sides which is a bu..er to get at, it turned up in the 70's during overhaul programs and was the subject of a miscellaneous instruction issued to EMER'S. It gives you a real shock when it pops, but the bilge copes with it. Time has moved on so the pop might be larger if it is present.
Ps, I noticed in the photos something on top of the propulsion PTO, that looks like a breather? I was a testing stollys for six years prior to 84 and don't recall this. Is it?

The stalwart is done and looks fantastic. Next up is a Saxon (in a NI setting). The Antar is also on the cards. Sadly it has to be funded by the team there at the School - it is a bit of a stretch to ask the taxpayer to do it, and neither is it a good idea to use soldiers welfare funds. So it is good old self help I fear. Now I have looked at the Antar (last week as it happens) and I am an old Antar man and can confirm that mechanically it seems in very good shape and would render some excellent spares to keep those Antars that are on the road - er - on the road. Its not like you can pop into Halfords for a 3rd diff (and if I had an Antar I would definitely have a spare 3rd diff....). At least it isn't going to be cut up but restored (at least cosmetically) and put on display.
The school is alive and kicking by the way - with over 1200 vehicles and 18000 students a year - they teach everything with wheels from quad bike to the latest armoured vehicles like MASTIFF and WOLFHOUND. Its an amazing place but the thinking is that a reminder or two for the youngsters coming through of what vehicles used to look like would add a bit to their general education.
If anyone wants to chat about the Antar they can chat to a nice fella called Bob (the number is on the MILWEB add) or me on 07979 720466.
I understand the problems of funding a restoration in these days. But having spent 14 years overhauling these lovely's, the thought of butchering her leaves me feeling ill.

Makes drivers
It is the best thing to do with your strides on, always looked forward to overload testing Mk 1s & 2s, you really had to pay attention to the gears to avoid long slow crawls on the smallest of gradient,:cool2: which really peedoff escorts.

Shame
I wish I had the dosh to save here.

Thanks Clive
I thought the Beverley operation was closed a number of years ago and that the vehicles were gone. Excuse my ignorance, what is a gate guardian?

Just noticed a good looking Mk 3 for spares on Milweb? Its in the parts section.
:(Dose anyone know the history of this and how this has come about?

A possible information path to pursue for information on this gen, would be to look at the National Health Chest X ray units that toured the country in the 50s to the mid 70s. They were identical and known as Beaver trailers, towed by Leyland Hippo coach built chest X ray units.
Sorry did not see the post at the top of the page. DURRR

Thanks Mike Will give it a swing and post some photos soon.

Dear All
I have in a number of old B/W photos of Scammels, Antars. DUKW's and RAF fire engines, which I would like to publish on HMVF, But when I attempt to pull them to the message board it fails because the size of the stored image is larger than is allowed.
Can anyone advise me of the process to re-size the images:blush: for publication?

Hi Guys
This is by way of the introduction I would have given in 08 when I joined. But having found the site when working over seas I felt I had nothing to offer (wrong). So this is it. Where has all the Antar gone? The site has been very quiet recently?
My back ground is at an LEA? (logistic executive army) workshops, Fazakerley Engineering Company in Field Lane Liverpool. This was a civilian run Ltd company, a branch of Williams Motor Company of Liverpool and Manchester. (would the regular guys please forgive).
At the age of sixteen I was lucky-enough (Through my fathers intervention) to start as an apprentice at the above and at the time of my interview a Mk11 rolled passed and frightened me into believing I was out of my shallow depth.
But the day after after stating my training, when I was the used as the counter weight to tip the Mk 3 C8 SFL into it's rear mounting cups, I was sold on ANTAR's
I have attempted to purchase MK3 Militant's. But without success and had a dalliance with an MGBGT restoration. But because of limited space I find myself a spectator.
Please If I can help an Antar keeper. I say keeper because once I score on the lottery I will be making an offer that I hope will not be refused.
Not just Antar's though, I have time on Stalwarts, Saracens, Thornycroft Fire Crash and all sorts of odd RAF and Army equipments. The belief was that when our CSO ( Contract Supervisory Officer) went to the Casting Comity. what ever was left over , FEC would take.
Passion for Antar's, is a newly completed Mk3 ballast tractor awaiting delivery in bronze green. Forgive me but, Fewww

The plate in this cab was requested as a one off, the vehicle was not part of the rework or any batch contract. It had been BER'd because of a huge amount of collision damage. But the user needed vehicles while awaiting the arrival of the Scammel. The chassis was buggered, the gear box had to be created from a MK2 unit and the parts catalogue, the cab and panels forward of the rear wings had to be re-manufactured on site and the engine was well broken but rebuilt on site to keep the cost down. The rest of the rebuild was no cake walk as the unit had robbed it soft and the two Polish guys who delivered it made off with the prop-shafts.
Forgive me if this don't work out but it is my first attempt at albums.
Two shots of the rebuild and one of the vehicle as I recall it was delivered to Fazakerley Engineering. Photos courtesy of REME school achieve, taken by Army Photo Unit during a record of engineering techniques. The photo has two electricians on the right and Mr James Hemsworth the fitter who rebuilt the vehicle on the left.

Hi All
Could I tap into the vast knowledge of Antar custodians and past users.
In my tool box I have a chrome Antar wheel nut I picked up when pulling down a MK11 for overhaul in the mid 70's.
Has anyone else come across them? are they common? or is it possibly from a display model?
Also in tool box, don't know why. I have a MK11 rev counter head, free to anyone with a need for a spare.

It is just that my Eager Beaver went through Fazakerley, and I am trying to find out who fitted the roll cages to the E.B.'s that stayed in service towards the end, when they were no longer being air transported.
No, it was not us. The only non air portable we saw were the extreme cold weather ones.

When I had an Antar (12DM60) it had a plate in the cab saying FEC SPECIAL REBUILD 1980.
I have a very good picture of the vehicle in rebuild but am unable to post it because of its file size.

Hi and welcome, If you are ex Fazakerley, what do you know about them rebuilding Eager Beaver rough terrain fork lift truck?
Eager Beavers!!!!!!
They took years off my life. I was the fool given the task of testing them after overhaul. The P&TO 3 in charge of the contract insisted upon a ten mile road test to proof oil leaks.
Spent most of the time in the air.

i used to know where this was ,escapes me for the moment.
This is Fazakerley Engineering Liverpool. Tha Antar Rework Programme. The skinny Ginger in the back ground is me. It was taken by, I think, some 16 tank users on a visit 1975-7 with a officer called Tibble.
