    Hi,
can use a solution such as in the model shown in the 1937-41 manual?
Was there a horn button or an engine kill switch on the right side?
Left: dipp switch or dipp switch with horn button?

    Cheers

  2. Hi,

The catalog for 1939 includes Part no. 380,057 Dimmer switch (on handlebar), all models with instrumental panel.

I guess we can assume that the 1939/40 models had a switch.

My drivers manual without dip switch is probably from later years. Just like the W2053A diagram.
During the war, materials such as copper were saved and unnecessary equipment was reduced. With headlight mask, changing the lights was not necessary.

Thank you all for your help.

  3. The point is that I don't have to explain at the MOT inspection that there was only one light. And yes, it has all the lights in accordance with the regulations. 😁

What were the regulations in force in 1939/40? Is it like in my manual?

Of course, I don't ride at night, even with a new bike.
I drive less and less because there is too much traffic and it is dangerous.

Only for special events, such as the last "End of the 2023 motorcycle season in Lodz" (NSU Quick '39).

    Cheers

P.S. On the left side of the handlebar, a dip switch from Bosch. It's similar.

  4. Hi,

I have an idea to connect the lights differently than in the instructions:
    T- Tail & Parking Ligh
    L- Dipp Beam (like low)
    H-Main Beam (like high).
With this connection, there is no need for a dipp switch and the bike looks original from the outside.
What do you think about this solution?

    Wow,

I see a big discussion this morning.

The previous photo with the description of the switch is taken from the Driver's Handbook, but I don't know from which year. Maybe you know by the number?

  6. Hi,

    I need help again.
Wasn't there a switch from dip beam to main beam on my bike?
    There was only one headlight?
Does anyone have a wiring diagram for 1939/40 motorcycles?
I only have a diagram for models from 1949 and younger with a dipper switch.

    Cheers

  7. Thanks Ron,
I think mine had rubber grips. In the photo of the prototype from the REME Museum and on motorcycles from the beginning of the war, rubber is visible.

    Next question:
Should the upper chain guard be attached as in the photo?

    Cheers

  8. Thanks Ron,
I have to think whether it makes sense to change a non-original regulator. Maybe I'll buy an old, faulty Lucas and change the electronics.
    I need to think.

  9. Hi,

I bought a cable with an external diameter of 4 mm.
I've already washed off the inscriptions.
I'll try on the ends tomorrow.

    Many thank's.

Another problem is the regulator. I bought it from Hitchcocks 20 years ago. Unfortunately, it has a different mounting. I'll try to make it as original as possible. Electrically it's ok.

    Cheers

  10. I thought the original ones were cotton covered. Just like in the photo of my lamp.
I think the outer diameter will be about 4mm.

The price is per meter. About 1Ł/m.
    I'll check it.

  11. Hi,

I have such cables in my lamp. This is not a pre-war lamp. I think it's from the 1950s. The ammeter is made of plastic and the glass is not flat. Siemens light bulbs made in England have the inscription "Lucas No. 168 Tested" on them. 😁
Should I look for cables like the black one?

    Best regards

  12. Thanks Ron,
Forty years ago, I built an installation using colorful PVC cables with FIAT type connectors. But it was my own creation. I had no role model. Today I would like to do it like the original.
Could you send photos of how the cables are routed? What color tips were on each end?
I have a regulator, but unfortunately not the original Lucas. I have to check the connector mounting tomorrow.

  13. Hi Lex,

I bought the cables in Poland from a seller near Warsaw. It has three colors and two diameter sizes. The smaller one for lines of approx. 1.5 mm and the larger one up to 2 mm. It is possible that they come from the same manufacturer.
I thought I would have to do the electrical installation myself.☹️
Were the cables only one color - black?  Were there colored cables like in post-war Triumphs?

    Cheers,

    Pawel

  14. Hi,

I made the screws according to the BSC standard from stainless steel. They were sandblasted for the military version.

I finally connected the control cables that I made myself according to the patterns. I bought wiring casing similar to the old ones. The only original cable was from the exhaust lever. It needed some repairs.

    Time for electrical equipment.
The headlamp is a Lucas MU42 purchased a long time ago from RAF stocks. The rear lamp is a Lucas copy. The horn is original Lucas, but the button is unfortunately new.
Do you know who makes wiring harnesses for Triumph 3SW? Of course, just like in the original.

    Best regards

  15. Hi,
my project is progressing very slowly but still moving forward.
Ball race cap made according to Ron's recommendations. I added an O-ring seal.

I have a question about the front fender mounting bolts.
What should the screws A, B and C be? I mean the diameter of the thread, the pitch and the hexagonal dimension of the screw head.
    Regards
