  1. The Isaacs one is on you tube and I have asked the FAAM for permission too use their image on this thread.

     

    Despite the fact I now reside in the colonies some may realise I did originate in the UK and as such have some inkling to some of the military history from the UK.

     

    A local collection is pondering on how to tie in their G wagen to their cold war collection theme. I had suggested the Argentine G Wagen connection to their BV202 as being a pair to have a tenuous link if it was portrayed in that scheme. They had no idea of the connection.

     

    It was during that search that I came across the Cosford vehicle and started this thread / rant.

  2. Well, I have done a ton of digging, yes I suffer from a sleep problem at times.

     

    From another forum I have pieced together what appears to be the most thorough history of this vehicle so far and the best explanation as to its current colour scheme.

     

    It was captured by the Ghurkas and somehow ended up in the UK after being brought back by sea. 18 Squadron RAF obtained it and took it by air to Germany and it was used by the OC of the Squadron as a daily hack vehicle.

     

    During that time it was stolen (loose definition) by another RAF unit 230 Sqn and repainted in a Tiger stripe scheme, presumably to be part of the Tiger Meet event at the time and or because 230 Sqn uses the tiger in its identity.

     

    Upon retrieval by 18 Sqn it was repainted in the black with the orange stripe as this was the Sqn colours. The Sqn was relocated back to the UK at this time. Attempts to UK road register it with DVLA failed and hence it was given to Cosford museum.

     

    (Why they didnt go the CV route i'm not sure)

     

    That is what I can piece together so far and all is open to being challenged.

  3. The Canadian artist Alex Colville has a realism that is inspiring and yet haunting.

     

    Having done work in the National Gallery that housed this picture one always felt that you were being watched no matter where you went in that particular gallery. It is titled Ferry to PEI.

     

    A significant artist with many wartime images to his credit and a Canadian treasure.

  5. I have always thought that in an ideal world we would post up as much info on each sale on a publicly accessible forum such as this so that those who follow behind will know what went on all those years ago.

  6. The tie rod tube part number has been superceded by LR045730

     

    Called, for amusement, our "local" Land Rover dealer 2 hours drive away who said "$103.20, no stock in North America, likely be 2 to 3 weeks or more at least via the corporate supply chain.

     

    Rovers North who are in the upper right hand corner (state of Vermont) of the USA have one coming in a sea container this Friday and can be sent to Upper New York state by Wednesday of next week for $80 and change plus carriage. So that is the route I am headed for.

  7. There have been a few private messages and emails regarding these the gist of which bear putting in the public domain.

     

    I can't see how making them and sending to the UK can be worth it, classic Coals to Newcastle if ever I heard of it.

     

    I will document the process as best as I can and post wood choices etc once we are done.

  8. We are in the process of making a number of wooden 76mm rounds based from a DRILL round we have in stock.

     

    We are using a wood such as Bass and will not be offering them painted, that will be your joy.

     

    The more that are ordered, the less they cost.

    Thank you for the reply.

     

    We think that the axle end of the radius arm connection being the lowest point may have been pushed back during a connection with mother earth in a violent event. Hence the arm is chaffing the front casing.

     

    Wondering if there are any reference points to measure anything from.

  10. I think as we are a serious forum and always try to do things in an authentic way, the members above should attempt both the start and stop methods in front of a camera and post the results of their experiments, if nothing else, to give the rest of us some good laughs.

  11. Dear all,

     

    We are currently awaiting manuals, as always a time lag, in the mean time we have some issues that we would be grateful for some assistance on.

     

    We have gone through the truck in the "as received" condition from the UK as we have learned not to trust but rather check ourselves. Anyone buying and trusting is bound to get a surprise.

     

    Many minor issues all within our grasp, save these two:-

     

    - The tie rod that runs behind the front axle, does anyone have a Land Rover part number please? Ours is bent.

     

    - The radius rod (my term) that runs across the width of the vehicle and secures the front axle left and right is slowly grinding into the front diff cover, any clues why? What could have caused it to move reaward or the axle forward to make such a contact? The rod does not look damaged.
