  1. Hoping someone may identify any of these so I may push them towards people who might use them or need them.

And before some joker makes a comment, the mess tins are used for scale and do not need identifying

I believe these are all of British origins but not sure

  2. As I have always said, truth is stranger than fiction.

I gave up with this guy and moved on to other projects.

Today I was in Princess Auto and bumped into a guy who looked familiar and very quickly I realised it was Carawagon man.

We chatted and he has moved on to Toyota Land Cruisers which is good for me as we decided I could help him with them if I bought the Carawagon. We discussed a price and he countered my offer by 500 dollars and gave me until the end of November for the agreed price.

So, here we go, now I have to cash in everything to buy it.

I am pumped, someone doesn't know just yet, I will have to get over that somehow, maybe finish the garage and put it inside.

I wont forget this one quickly, its also my daughter's birthday today.

Here we go, another roller coaster

  3. This information is priceless and I thank you all for it.

I am trying to understand as to how to know what a part is by the FV number.

Many of us have a solitary vehicle, few people get to see many different vehicles or maintain them. It is only when you get to this stage does the light bulb go on as to the parts numbering when you see the same part on a Land Rover, a Ferret and a Bedford and a Saracen and try to cross reference them.

I had, it seems mistakenly, thought that an FV number was the key and not the NSN, now with what is coming out I am less sure.

In my mind if I had an FV number I would be able to know what it would work on just by the number, seems I am wrong?

  4. John,

great answer, I am already broader in my knowledge.

I have observed that most of the older vehicle parts have the FV number either stamped or moulded into or onto them.

I am going on a bit of a forensic detective hunt here, so all answers are very very informative, don't stop now.

  5. So,

I am interested to know if the same part used on different vehicles while physically being the same did they get a different FV number based on application?

Let me give an example, the oil bath air cleaner on a Ferret, a Saracen, a Saladin and a Stalwart, all look the same.

  6. Am I dreaming or do I recall from country fairs or maybe the Royal Tournament from days of old that there was a race between two teams and specially prepared Land Rovers that drove into the arena and then came apart into major sub assemblies in a few minutes and then back together and drove out again?

Can we put any images and recollections on this subject into the public domain?

  7. I have 3 NOS left units and a pair if used units.

The NOS are complete the used are missing a wing nut here and there and some of the electrical fittings.

While the pictures show 5 NOS units 2 are now sold.

  8. Wayne,

I have seen you n the facebook group although you wont recognise me from there.

First of all can I suggest you add where you are in the world so it shows in the top right of your posts, it helps others in replying to you.

I find the FB groups don't archive information well but searches n this forum reveal a wealth of information if you delve skilfully.

You have not added the shipping and import duty and or brokerage fees for importing from overseas.

Also I would day that if you can buy locally (price not withstanding) then the opportunity to get recourse on a problem locally is always better as when you stand on the doorstep you often get better serice than hollering down the phone or exchanging emails over great distances.

We in Ontario are using John Stuart Power Brake in Ontario.

    Hope this helps
