  1. A 1942 ammo box which is in good general condition. Unfortunately, has quite a bit of overspray on it from where it sat in a workshop but this would probably clean off. Stamped on the box is 'C190' 'IV' and n 'S' in an extended lozenge shape. The stenciled writing (best that I can make out) reads:

  2. That is unfortunately why I stopped using metal jerry cans. The red paint came off unbeknown to me and caused no end of problems.  I've given the plastic can a swill with diesel to get rid of the oil. Hopefully all will be well.  I know that modern fuels which have a percentage of bio-ethanol in them can cause problems. Apparently the worst is fibreglass fuel tanks and modern petrol which attacks them.

  3. I recently was given a black 'plastic' 20 litre can which has the  'water' formed into the side of it. It was full of oil of an unknown grade which I've subsequently taken to the recycling at the local tip as definitely not worth risking it in anything I own.   I can't use the can for water now but would like to use it for diesel. Does anyone have any experience of this. I don't want to put diesel in it if there is a chance of it effecting the can or contaminating the diesel. Just seems a pity to not be able to use the can.

  4. Hello Clive,

    That's a good list of documents. If you can find them out that would be useful. No panic . There must be quite a bit of commonality with the GS with regard to engine, gearbox and probably axles so at a fall-back I could probably do with the EMERs for that.

  6. I've never managed to pull a core plug out . Usually just use a very sharp cold chisel to punch the centre and then collapse the outer flange inwards. Perversely,  always found them a satisfying job to do as long as they weren't the one hidden behind a lot of other components or adjacent to a bulkhead etc.

    Are you saying that you want all of the bits?

    Assume that you will want this sent. I would prefer to use UPS as they are relatively cheap and reliable.

  8. A Rolls Royce C Range workshop manual TSD publication 803 (10th issue). Covers 4, 6 and 8 cylinder versions. This is a comprehensive workshop manual, not the service manual. In good 'workshop' condition. Engines were fitted to some military Scammell Constructors and numerous other vehicles and plant. As per preface, can be used for work on the 'Eagle' range. Can post or welcome to collect. 

  9. Due to a change in future vehicles, I have some unused parts for the Scammell Crusader Eka. These are mainly air system and brake parts . If you have a need for any particular part, please let me know with a full description and part number (NSN) if possible. I will then let you know if I have it. As I tidy through the bits there might be a few other Crusader parts. 

  10. I'm interested in finding out a lot more about this series of vehicles as have no real involvement with American lorries to-date. Can anyone recommend a book that covers these. I don't want manuals etc just something like the equivalent of a 'Warehouse' publication.

  11. I've four aluminium cooling pipes left over from when the Meadows came out of my Explorer. All in good order with very minimal corrosion internally and externally. If you need any replacements for yours, then please let me know. At least three of them have cast in part numbers which may assist with identification.

    Inspirational work as always. Couple of good suggestions above for painting the inside of the hose carrier. I was going to suggest the somewhat crude (low tech) method of making a bung for one end and then trickling-in suitably thinned primmer with the tube at an angle and then rotating and tilting it until full coverage was achieved. Remove the bung to get a bit of air through it to aid the drying.

    As an aside, always did like the Audi A4 estate and as your photo's prove, excellent for moving the odd bit of military vehicle.

Thanks for pointing me in the direction of the woodwork drawings, they will be very useful to check dims etc. Interesting what radiomike7 says about the rear boxes as always thought that they looked like an add-on as didn't seem to be the same quality as the rest. Never thought that they really had enough support. Think mine might be left off for the time being.

    I've used Keruing as the buffer strips between the chassis and body on a Matador and this came from the same sawmill that I'm going to use for the Explorer wood. Always remember getting an evil big splinter from it in my hand and it did cause an infection. Hadn't heard of its reputation!
