  1. Can anyone tell me if this is 1 whole unit or is it just 2 SU pumps and the center seaction is just an adaptor?

The only marking I could find is on the center seaction which is AUB650.

Its off my Shorland, if anyone knows what pumps they use and where I can get another one of these I'd be greatfull.

    Thanks.

  2. Can anyone tell me what the visual differences between a S2a and a S3 gearbox are part numbers etc?

Ive just recived a recon box to fit to my SWB S2A but it looks identical to the box fitted to my S3 Shorland and has a filler cap at the top of the box whereas the box fitted to the S2A just has a circle cast on the top.

    S2A:

    Thanks.

  3. There was a series on Men and Motors about 2 years ago called Military Machines which was very good, it interviewed the owners for the history/ info, it was filmed mostly at a Beltring show and would focus on stuff like BV206, SAS Landys, Austin Tillys, Champ, Centurion AVRE, Jeep, also had a episode featuering Wheels and Tracks collection? Mc Arthers staff car Renault tank, Merc staff car.

I managed to see all of the Tank Overhaul and came to the same conclusion as most apart from a few bits it was good.

  4. Has anyone used or heard of A+S / http://www.arm-soft.com?

I'm considering having a bit of work done on the Shorland by them, I phoned them yesterday (Thursday) at 3:20pm for a rough quote and by 8:30am today(Friday) a chap had been over to quote the work.

The quote seems reasonable, but I was wondering if anyone had more info on their work?

    Thanks in advance.

  5. Hi Mark, yes I have the guns for it They should just need a wash down with some petrol to clean all the packing grease from when they Demobed them, mind you they won't be fitted until I have some storage as there too heavy to fit by hand so we'll use a small HIAB crane. They take 5 men to cock them and are about 7Ft+ long.

All in all the mount is rather big for what it is, its twice the size of a Quad .50cal unit.

I found this pic a while back and got me thinking:

What they look like with the guns fitted:

  6. Started working on it again, although in an arse about way due to the way it was put together: to remove the fuel tank you need to remove the main rotating body off the fixed base unit or remove the engine/main suspension unit that holds the carriage to the main mount unit and cut 2 bolts off, I opted for the latter which has only taken over a day so far.

The engine had to be removed anyway to be partially dismantled to refit the magneto.

The cooling shroud on the engine is attached via half the engines cylinder head bolts

They were obviously not ment to be taken apart once built, not sure if they were built as such due to good reliability reasons or they weren't expected to last long in a battlefield.
