  1. Af,noon all.

Probably a couple of dumb questions but......

    1) What is the correct weight term for the small GS trailers often seen behind Champs, LR Lightweight etc...is it half ton?

    2) I know there were different manufacturers of these, Sankey, Brockhouse, Rootes....but is there a trick method of ID just from a picture, without having to read the chassis plate?

    3) is there any significance to the X shape pressings in the sides & ends of the '1/2 ton Sankey' (using that as a generic term) trailers? By that, I mean does the presence of the pressings 'date' the trailer perhaps, or does it mean it was built by a particular manufacturer at all? The vast majority of pictures I've seen seem to show no pressings at all......then one crops up with pressings.

Hopefully someone can shed some light for me.....

    Best regards. Howard

  2. Thanks Andy,

Yep, your sight set up appears to be identical to the 2nd one I photographed at Evesham (I only know its a different gun by the different tyres), right down to the range card & its cover.:D

If you ever get chance to visit the Mucklburgh BAT you'll be surprised how many subtle differences there are. No sights fitted on theirs though sadly.

Have saved your pic for reference though.

    Some cunning photography there Marmite:wow:

    Cheers......Howard @ KFS

  3. Saw a Catalina (yes definately...twin engine in the high wing, huge wingspan, flying boat hull, undercarriage tucked up inside the hull) in flight over Spilsby (just north of Boston, not far from Conningsby) at 2.15pm today. Almost went V.O.R watching it. First one I've EVER seen I think, let alone in flight.

Anyone else in Lincs spot it ???

  4. Hi Spider,

Cheers for that...once again some interesting reading & tips picked up. I'm going to read through that again & I think there'll be a few questions I might bounce off you as well.

    Old_ROF,

I tried getting in touch with BAE some time ago regarding another matter & just got ignored. The bigger the company...etc etc (& the other thing is as soon as you mention the M (model) word you treated like a nerd & they switch off):banghead:

Train spotters have a lot to answer for !:argh:

  5. Me again chaps, scrounging a little bit of 1 tonner info.

Just putting the final details together for the 1/24th 1 ton forward control Land Rover model & have hit a lack of knowledge problem.

Hopefully someone can put me right......do the two heavy roll cab bars actually form part of the canopy support or do they finish lower than the canopy.....in which case is there then a normal canopy tube attached to the front roll bar in some way to gain the correct height.

I can see how the rear canopy tube work is arranged from my pictures...I just loose track of things at the roll cage end because the canvas is always in the shot & hiding things.

Drawing from a parts book ? or photo of a 1 ton with the canvas off but the rest still fitted perhaps ?? or even a picture of the bars/tubes taken from the passengers/drivers seat might help ???

    Thanks in advance

    Howard @ KFS

  6. Old_ROF........

Thanks for that snippet......a few more minor additional parts required, but nothing to break the bank there I think.

Given that the portion of the barrel that is housed within the cradle is largely out of sight once the rest of the gun is built up around it...what I'd 'planned' to do was make the barrel in 3 pieces;-

The rear portion including the breach block would be a 'universal' item (as I said it is largely hidden)

The muzzle brake would be a separate item

The 'exposed' part of the barrel would be the optional long/short piece

Thats the plan at present anyway:nut:

How many more of those wonderfull drawings are available & how can I get a set (he drooled;))

Shall go read more on the beast

    Cheers

    H

  7. "Ah BUT!! How many variations of the 101 are you going to do?"

Difficult to say at this point till the masters get underway & we see where it takes us.

Generally though `1 kit` only, maybe with a few optional parts.......have to draw a line in the sand with the number of 'optional' parts supplied otherwise no matter what version is built there are a heap of wasted bits....which the customer has obviously paid for & become useless.

It's intended to go with the 1 tonner.....so that ties it down a bit period wise. I.e not the latest gun with computer wizardry for a start. Having said that I send a lot of kits to the US & Australia....both of whom used the gun, si both barrels will be in there for a start.

Would like to provide the ability to tow it either way round too of course.

  8. Hi O/ROF

    Thanks for those latest pics.

They just answered a question I had not even asked yet....about markings & lights when towed.:thanx:

The 1 tonner kit goes for casting next Thursday.....but is still about 2-3 months off release. Once I get sample castings back there is still a fair bit of development & tweaking to do on the brass etch work, canopy parts, test builds instructions & so on.

Rarely does everything fit 100% first time round....much like the real thing...prototype, test, mod, test, mod...

I have it all laid out as I write, designing the windscreen etch parts.

Its just over 7" long & will hopefully look good towing a 105 :cool2::cool2:

    Thanks again.

    H

  9. Ha ha...thanks lads......but I was just trying to get the right decals made for the next 1/24th kit release....the 1 ton.

I cocked up on the Ferret TP decals so I thought I'd ask those in the know this time. :cool2:

I just wish I could afford a real 1 ton & the fuel to run it.:(

  10. Tony B, OldROF.....

Many thanks chaps for those two inputs & especially the pics. Very interesting & informative, cheers.

The more I talk to people & study the thing the more I'm understanding about the weapon & the various changes it went through. Which at the same time makes it all the more confusing in some respects !! (as you say Tony...20 kits needed)

BUT....at least I'm getting more of a handle on what fits where & why / how. The stowed turntable though in the above picture appears to be 'within' the trails....another picture I have shows it stowed 'over' the trails & it appears to be a much wider turntable than the one above. Another mod perhaps ?

If you think of anything else that might be of use please do fire it at me (pun intended)

    Cheers........Howard @ KFS

  11. "Re drawings, any particular reason or purpose as i can have a dig and see what i have"

    Hi Tim,

Trying to get the proprtions & dimension right for a couple of 1/24th scale model Brens. These are for use primarily with next years Mobat kit & the current Champ & Ferret kits. (Hence both .303 & 7.62)

The GPMG is to accompany the FV432 kit & others.

I confess I've not really looked around for books or publications on these myself yet. Just thought I'd ask here first as there might be a ready answer/source of info.:-D

    Cheers.,........Howard @ KFS

  12. Ahhh... I thought about the sectional training aid poster after I'd posted my request up.

Ideally its the other, 'non sectional' one I could do with as it shows all the external details...probably even rarer than the sectioned drawing I'm guessing.

I just had an idea someone might be doing re-production ones somewhere.

Thanks for offer of a copy though....might have to fall back on you for that.

    Many thanks......Howard @ KFS

  13. Hi all,

Could anyone tell me where I could get drawings, scaled or full size for .303 & 7.62 Bren & also for the GPMG ? or failing that some 1;1 training posters?.

Reccomended publications perhaps ?....or companies doing re-pro posters maybe.

    Any suggestions or help appreciated.

Many thanks in advance...... Howard @ KFS
