    Looking sweet already mate.

     

    DJ working on the pack at present, hull & interior all finished. CAD for the track/sprockets & road wheels 75% there now. So masters could be ready next month.:yay:

     

    Hopefully AndyM can get my problem with downloading 430 manuals sorted over the w/e. I'll let you know if there is any useful 439 stuff amongst it.:coffee:

  3. Good afternoon all,

     

    This is a plea for any kind of cross section drawing from any manual or EMER that might exist of the 432 drive hub, either with or without the sprockets. Could also do with any cross section of the road wheel(s) if such a thing exists.

    A scanned page as a pdf would be ideal if anyone has anything in a manual etc.

     

    I need it to give to a guy doing some CAD drawings of FV432 parts for our 1/24th scale model. He's done the top roller set from an EMER drawing I found & made an excellent job of that & the track link as well. He's also drawn the drive sprocket itself but is struggling a bit with the hub.

     

    Any photographs of the hub off the vehicle, with or without sprockets might also be handy. (Already got hundreds of pics of it in situ with tracks)

     

    Much appreciate anything going.

  4. Even though I've seen it in the flesh, & read the whole feature prepped for print in a magazine, I still find it an amazing piece of work Tony. Cracking work mate & I look forward to thrusting a 432 kit under your nose.

  5. Saw this one the first time it was shown & watched it again last night. Better than 'Tankies' in my opinion but there are still some very short clips being shown backwards......like the 'left hand drive' Conqueror. Still interesting non the less.

  6. For those who've not already seen them.....Heres a couple of decent period clips I've just stumbled across. REME In The Field parts 1 & 2.

     

    Dated 1955 & a right good mix of old kit, QLs, MWD, Explorers, Austin K9, Champs, a Dingo, a Jeep, Centurions, a Mk1 Cent ARV (believe it or not), Conqueror, White half track fitters vehicle, & others.

     

    Chumley Warner doing the commentary as usual.

  7. Peter,

     

    If you just end up with a length of suitable rope & a set of hooks......& want to produce accurate replicas.......the ends will require splicing properly. I still have my REME recovery training precis from 1972 which shows you how to do it.

     

    Happy to scan pages if you want to give it a go.

     

    Cordage was quite easy (& interesting)...doing same with steel wire rope was somewhat trickier mind you.

  8. Sadly no further info other than memories of seeing them & thinking 'oh yeah look' yank motors.....how novel.

    It did not even cross my mind at the age of 20 that they were Canadian not American.

     

    As a recy mech I was more involved in keeping my Cent ARV limping along with all its woes & troubles. Rev govenors not working so no engine braking, knackered gearbox which was eventually swapped for a target gun tank box, consistantly catching fire on start up .........

     

    The MT Sections had the Deuce & we only really saw it when they delivered a ration/water re-plen or collected a squadron of dirty squaddies to take us on a two hour drive to the showers.

     

    Which, as anyone who has been out there will testify is totally pointless. The dust on the journey back means you climb out of the truck just as dirty as when you got in.

     

    I had a quick look & a poke around in the cab of one out of curiosity, spoke to a driver about the 'funny' gearbox & thats pretty much all. It seems quite natural they should have had Brit plates, can't say I really noticed that point at the time though.

    I was at Batus in 1974 & yes we used Deuce & a Halfs. But what more is there to say about them ?

    Seeing a few of these was not exactly the most exciting thing that happened in the course of a month long live firing exercise. For what its worth I seem to recall they had novelty automatic gearboxes of some sort though.

    I won't go through it all again, but I had an 'interesting experience' on Hohne ranges many years ago when I had a good look around a pair Conquerors standing close to each other that were hard targets & been shot to bits.

     

    The hair on the back of my neck still stands up when I recall the experience. Someone on here suggested it might have been residual kinetic energy from all the SABOT hits.... maybe, maybe not.

    I was just sat here thinking that the old TM masters I sent you would hardly do justice to the work you're putting in on the chassis....then I read you're going to build your own cab. Wise move if I may say so, especially after all the chassis & tyre graft.

     

    Those masters were built not by me, but by Paul Hazell almost 20 years ago now, they were ok for the job at the time but never perfect. I took him over to the local RCT TA unit where we spent a while measuring up a real one. The resulting kit was adequate for the standard of casting employed & funds available at that time I suppose.

     

    But once the TQ range struck up & professional casters were used, David Jane was used for all new masters & Pauls old school Crusader & TM kits were dropped.

     

    Cracking work on the chassis by the way.:D
