The Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regiment LHG,will be hosting a cracking event at the above location on the indicated dates,aside the 60 authentic uniformed living historians there will be on display the following Great War Military vehicles 1915 General Service Wagon 1915 Cart Water Tank 1916 Triumph M/C 1916 Ford Model T Ambulance undated period bicycle those wishing to display thier Great War Truck ,MC, or other bit of period kit would be most welcome just let me know and i will accommodate you
  2. Hi Steve, I have never made a pattern for foundry work , i would guess turned from wood and if hollow cut through the middle (school boy memories) and each half pressed in sand then bolted together in iron blocks ? Kind Regards Nige p/s do you work in the casting or metal products industry ?
  3. seen here the pump seems to have threaded fittings and either galvanised or copper pipe coming out the top !

Hi Steve, The pumps had inlet hoses on them that as you correctly stated were thrown into a nearby water supply stream etc these had a float on them and a rose the water was then pumped up with the cranked t handle as per the drawing and photos, through the bottom of the pump body and out the top into and through the filters before ending up clean in the tank itself ! Re the scale, i have a original pump mounting bracket (and 2 new ones) the bracket can be seen in both photos the holes that take the fixing bolts are 4 1/4 inches on center ! the wheels are 54 inches the old photo blows up clear if you down load it and you can see the pumps fixed to this bracket type in a horizontal postion and not vertical as per most drawings and photos kindest regards Nige
  6. Sadly nothing on the drawing re the pumps, as yet i know no other example of a complete Cart or the pumps ! but somewhere in the world there is one or a drawing of them fingers crossed !

The Plate will be copied on Wednesday and the copy fitted as with the GS Wagons ive done, Only because as with the one that was on the "Fromelles" wagon they get stolen hence why the "Fromelles" Wagon has a copy of mine when the wagon is actually a Metro Built wagon i renumbered the plate E 190710 ! keep a eye out for those pumps lads and filters too !   8. I have only pictures and the drawings which show them please see attached ,the pumps can be seen standing upright at the rear of the cart i believe they are called differential pumps ? sadly a blurred image of them here too amongst the other parts, kindest regards Nige

  11. I purchased the metal work to another Gs Wagon Sometime ago and have been asked recently to turn it into this ! a converted gs wagon pidgeon loft ! i think i will moth ball the bits for a while but never say never !
  12. Tim ! I love you can you make me some water pumps for the Cart Water Tank ????? i cant do them they dont have grain or growth rings !!! and they would mess up my saw blades !

Hi Tim, i have a friend who is a Colonel and a trustee at a regimental museum and he got me permission to photograph all the drawings relating to Horse Drawn Equipment of the great war and either side,so i have drawings for two mks of Gs Wagon, limbered Gs Wagons, travelling kitchens, maltese carts, trench carts, tip carts water tank carts etc etc some are better than others the limbered wagon and Gs Wagon give timber sizes and all measurements ! here is another of the ealier cart water tank ! i was happy to collect some metal work from the frabricator yesterday which gives me something to do tomorrow h

Thought you might like this,its what i have been working from the drawings for converting a tank water cart mk v to a mk v* which is what we have the earlier model mk1v had the water tank turned 90' degees and run at right angles to the axle i also have drawings to this type and the ealier cart water mk v which has a wooden barrel/tank on a curved axle like the cart.water tank mk1v /L/ regards Nige

Hi Tim all i can say for sure about date of introduction is around or after 1909 but before 1914 as the only types mentioned in the 1909 ASC manual are the mk11 variants in the "regulations for equipment of the army 1912 preprinted 31st aug 1914" where the mks 1* 11 11a 11c mk 111 are mentioned, in the Steve Chambers book "uniforms and equipment of the british army in world war one" there is a photo of the 10th bn qorws regt HT Section which was raised 3rd june 1915 and they have this type so before that ! i hope this is of some help it i had to gamble on it i would say 1912-1914 ! kind regards Nige

  21. Put back together for photgraphic purposes for our sponsers Southeast Water And Southern Water today will complete softwood stores box that sits behind tank, waiting for the brigade of volunteers to bang the door this morning armed with paint brushes ! more later Nige
