  1. we have to draw a line somewhere.

the resistance was not more then a terrorist group that acted without uniforms or markings.

they did their part against the greater evil but still, where do we draw the line that enough is enough with prosecution?

There were many factions to the French resistance and a lot of infighting but they had a common enemy and to call them a terrorist group is an insult or why would they have a Resistance museum in Paris?by the same token the British/American and other nationalities parachuted in by soe/oss to assist them are terrorists, somehow i doubt it,how many airmen would have got back to the UK without their help, not many.

Mistakes were made and no doubt innocent civilians were killed but bombing raids claimed a much larger toll of civilians and i recall seeing somewhere that approx 3000 French civilians were killed on D Day and the days that followed,i think that unless you have lived under occupation by an enemy force we will not view it as someone who has,i have been to OSG and all the signs say silence,it was the most moving place i have visited in my life, more so than a concentration camp and i found it hard to talk as i was choked,go to any French town and see how many were deported, drive the roads of Belgium and France and see a little memorial to a Resistance fighter and if you do put a flower on it,i think then you may begin to understand.

  2. See that an 88 year old ex SS soldier has been charged with taking part in this massacre, will be interesting to see if it gets to court but i dearly hope so and that the German's do not do as the French did with previous alleged perpetrators and not bother in the name of reconcillation,i have no axe to grind against the Germans but feel that charges are right, what are your views on this putting aside the alleged kidnapping/execution of the doctor/general by the resistance.Linky.....

  4. Have a friend who will be offering for sale a Schnellboot merit medal and the hardback book 1St edition Schnellboot in action by David Krakow 0/89747/457/0,he would like to get some idea of value of the items but is not very good with a pc so has asked me to try and find out and i daresay pop over and take photos some time!any guidance welcomed.

  5. Jak,

You would normally have a pair of these http://www.merlinequipment.com/page/document.asp?id=424

Think Enersys are based in South Wales somewhere but you will need a lot of coin to buy new,NOS ones turn up from time to time, managed to get a pair year before last for £80.0 but you will pay anything from 80/90 quid upwards for refillable(not sealed ones)seem to recall someone from Kent who trades at WP does them but don't know anything about guarrantee etc.

  6. Chris,

From the ces it has z42/5985-99-911-0964 and description is Case, aerial webbing 27in lgx4in w x3/8 thick o/a dimension excluding projection,so you have the wrong one going by that, dont know why but was a very similar one used with the WS 62/c12?

  7. Does the bottom photo state where it was taken? As it looks very like the old gun jetty at shoeburyness and in the background you can just see what looks like shoeburyness boom.

Yes that is also handwritten as Blyth, although that photo and the one above that is possibly split across 2 frames are more than likely the same boat as you can just about make out the last digit as a 3,if i find any more i will post them up.

  8. Thought i would share some photos of my late father,he was a nursing orderly (LAC) and from what i can make out from his service history was with 141 squadron RAF and after training served at West Raynham Norfolk and in 1945 was posted to a bomber command emergency airfield in France that then was called Lesquin(sp) but i beleive is now Lille.Photo's as follows and some of the comments written on back, crew membersx4 photo:A concerted war effort, fitter, radio op and 2 deckhands,146 at speed:sunk in Channel(Dieppe)August, the others are un written but the Launch one's all say Blyth,Northumberland,Jan 18-July20 1942.

The group photo was taken on an airfield(unknown)and as you can see in the second row they had Americans attached to them and i still have the silver dollar that one gave my father!btw he is the short one with glasses.

Mods feel free to move to aviation if needed.

  9. As i said i hope to be proved wrong and they are not negative comments just facts gleaned from web,we attend for 10 or so days and enjoy the show we don't mind another 60 miles travelling i was trying to point out given half the space someone might get the chop due to space, and i bet it will not be large groups either.

Once again i hope to be wrong and all goes well but facts are facts.

  10. Might be worth reading this as the road into the racecourse appears a nightmare http://www.shepway.gov.uk/UserFiles/File/pdf/local-plan/cs-submission/sites/racecourse/Economic%20benefits.pdf

You will note it has an area of 203 acres against Beltrings 400(wikipedia) so a lot less space although if plenty of day visitors use the train car parking should be less of a problem but i can see it being very tight on space and not large enough for this but hope to be proved wrong

  11. Just a big thank you on behalf of EMLRA to Lee,Ian and all the other unseen people who make this show what it is,relaxed.friendly not overpriced concessions and a chance for a lot of us to kick the season off.:-D

  12. In a past life i worked for the AA for a long time and we always did our best for members but as we are talking MV's be aware that they do/did have length and width restrictions but the one that would mostly like catch us out would be the NATO towing eye e.g your landy packs up and need recovery well what would cause a problem as i would guess that no one has a jaw to attach the trailer if it cannot be loaded onto the bed with say a 109.

May well be worth checking the terms and conditions as when i worked for them if it did not have a standard 50mm ball hitch all they could offer was seperate recovery for the trailer which you had to pay for and would guess that this would apply to GF,RAC etc, things may have changed but is still worth checking or i suppose you could try some beer vouchers.....

  13. Hi everybody,

Name is Mick and reside in Essex and am the owner of a series 2a ffr landrover and a bdr trailer, the LR was a project vehicle for the Rapier air defence system and would i guess spent a lot of time in a BAE factory somewhere as it is fairly straight and low mileage, normally do the BB and Beltring along with some smaller local shows be they fete style or classic car.
