  1. Hi Russ,

Yours also has those horizontal lengths of trim around the front corner(s) which aren't original. Are they hiding joins in replacement panels or are they purely decorative?

Hello Mike - I think its hiding joints in the panels, my assumption is water off of the screens rotted the curved panel and bits underneath, and it was the easiest way to make a running repair by cutting the damaged section off and replacing the curved panel with wood! Was very nice to meet you the other day!

  2. Just re-looking at these pictures on here and the numerous ones I've taken of my truck, quite a lot of the cab has definitely been re-paneled as I haven't got the Air Vents at the front corners of the cab, and the top below the windows where the nice curved panel should be is non-exsistant. I presume the cabs were prone to rotting from where the water comes down off of the windscreens and sits and collects.

  3. There doesn't seem to be one for FWD's, as far as I can see anyway. The main reason for starting this is that I was reading the ads section in the Classic & Vintage Commercials magazine last night and stumbled across the following advert:

    'AMERICAN SUCOE FWD 1942,

£1,500 ONO. 4x4 truck, reg CBN 189, originally petrol new 5LW Gardner diesel. Later used in showland. Needs restoration. North Nottinghamshire.'

Now they don't come up for sale that often and I was wondering if anyone knew of this one. If there already is an FWD gallery then please merge this post into it MODS.

In the meantime please see below a couple of pictures from the War & Peace Revival below.

Does anyone know if this one advertised ever got sold?

  4. Thanks for the replies :) Another question now, I gather that the lever on the right hand side of the steering column below the wheel is for applying the trailer brakes, the other side of the steering column I have something else sort of similar - refer to pics - anyone any idea what it is? Sorry if i'm being stupid!

  5. Mmmm i'd like to keep mine original when I ever do anything with it. Someone put a link on here about 10months ago to a link for 2 Waukesha SRKR engines, which the FWD's are. I'm currently persuing them as mine - due to the elements and sitting outside for 20years or so - has probably seen better days! What would you do with your petrol lump when you get round to the conversion?

    Cheers

  6. Any chance of seeing progress on your cabs Russell? I have this job ahead of me and here in Australia all of the Mats that did get here seem to have lost their original cabs so I have no chance of a pattern to copy. Would be great if someone has made drawings of the components as they went along, or even better has made a CAD program so multiples can be churned out.

Im afraid my FWD Sucoe hasnt moved in the last 7/8 years and the cab is getting to a very very sorry state! Sorry I can't be of any use

  7. Here are a couple of pictures of my matador in its current condition.

I'm after some major parts for it that are missing which include a winch and short propshafts and a starter motor, would anybody be able to help or point me in the right direction.

my first plan is to try and get the old girl fired up, she turns over which is a good start.

    Cheers tim

Very very interested in this thread! I (me and my dad) have its partner in crime, a FWD Sucoe, which was owned and operated by the same Presland and Sons Company. Its in a similar state of repair and needs a lot of love and attention, as well as a new cab! Have you any other history on either the truck or the Showmans its signwritten in? Be interesting to know more. More pictures would be good too, did you get it running? At what stage of restoration are you now?

    Intrigued and very interested, Russ
