  1. Hello Gaylon

Welcome to the forum here. I have since moved my vehicle closer to home near Leamington but I can ask the farmer for you & will let you know.

Once you've had a chance to browse around the forum it might be worth introducing yourself in the Introductions & Welcomes section where you'll get a warm reception and answers to any questions you may have, there are some very knowledgeable chaps here with a wealth of information to share.

    cheers

    Paul

  2. It's a family show with a large military presence which includes a mix of steam engines, both full size & miniature, vintage & classic cars, motorbikes, commercials, agricultural bygones, trade stalls along with a decent sized arena. There is also a beer tent, refreshments and entertainment.

We are unique in that we are the only MVT area to now have four genuine restored WW2 Nissen Huts, one complete with piano and pot bellied stove, so if its chilly out you can still have a cosy night in. The Nissen Huts form part of Ashdown Camp which comprises:

    • No. 1 Nissen Hut with British memorabilia

    • No. 2 Nissen Hut, U.S. Army Hospital*

    • No. 3 Nissen Hut, Motor Pool & German Quarters*

    • No. 4 Nissen Hut, for re-enactors/displays (currently under construction)*

    • Anderson air raid shelter

    • Barb-wire entanglement

    • Earthbund walls

    • Guard hut*

    • Midland Warplane Museum Displays on loan*

    • Radio shack

    • Replica German pillbox

    • Searchlights 90cm x2 (currently under renovation)*

    • Sentry posts with barriers

    • Stanton Air raid shelter*

    • ‘The Cooler’ an ex-British Waterways Diglis Locks WW2 guard shelter*

    • All overlooked by the purposeful looking watch tower

+ Lots of other atmospheric memorabilia

    *New for 2008

  3. Think Bob has done a great job of burying the Stanton but still more work to do.

We made the bank steep to hopefully deter little ones climbing, still need to make safe along with some signs.

Also found a suitable ladder & period benches. Then need to make up some steel doors & will put concrete slabs down on floor.

And to finish off the visitor experience I found a 5min soundtrack of an air raid with sirens, planes, bombs & ack ack to play inside.

  4. Glad its not just me then, I find then fascintating.

Someone hires it to clear stuff out by day, visitors remove items by night, other visitors dump stuff by night and so it goes on, so the level is constantly changing.

There was one the other week on news where someone put a table in with a damaged leg but was spotted & turned out it was made by a well known furniture maker & it fetched £40,000!!! And the original owner was very grateful.
