Hi All

Does anyone know where i can get Corporal stripes from?

the ones i am after are the type that we wore in the 70's / 80's on combat jackets (small green patch with black stripes on ) sewn on sleeve not on tag on zip.

I was talking to a ministry bloke yesterday and he said the law dates from 1968 so if you have a trailer built before that date you have no worries,

He also said that if he saw a trailer as long as it had all the relevant lights in his eyes ther would be no problem,

one more point was that on a standard Landy the rear lights can clearly be seen and not obscured by the trailer then it is ok.

the site were it is filmed is Bramley camp it it just outside Basingstoke on the Reading road

between Chineham and Sherfield on Loddon (466500,157500 OS Grid Ref)

if i remember it used to be an Amunition store area ( brick buildings all over the place and a rail system linking all together).

I have seen a few for sale adds recently these have stated that the trailer now meets the new law requirements (one even said that the electrics had been changed to meet the requirements to the civvie plug??)

I have just got a 1965 sankey and i am in the process of getting it on the road.

has anyone got any more info?????

Thanks for the info so far.

Last night at our MVT meeting he was saying that he was going to finish it i9n NATO green (as someone had painted it this colour in the past) but i said i was sure broze green was used up until series 11a's were in service (which would count out s1's) and i seem to remember that s1's were bronze green with silver/aluminium trim.

what were the colours that the series 1 Land Rover were painted (i think they were only ever painted Bronze Green)in?

I was having trouble at the rear end (before anyone says it .I ment the Landy!)

I have wired up a civy 7 pin plug on a lead, connected all the correct wires, but the R/H indicator will not work on the trailer board.

I am now going to connect up the NATO 12 pin socket (the 7 pin lead will be kept connected and in the rear locker).

the land rover is exactly the same as it was in service (except it now has a Halfords battery)

12v 2.25 petrol (wich it drinks!!!) 109 GS

The main reason for doing Airborne is because each year we have a 'war on the line' weekend on the Bodmin Steam Railway this is in conjunction with Cornwall MVT (of which i am a member)(and a kind of sub group) The Southwest Battlegroup

as most of the other members are either British or U S Airborne

U S is cheaper to do and also it looks better going in a Jeep or Jimmy on a convoy

can anyone tell me if there was a set distance from top of shoulder (epaulette) to top of

(left arm).....................101st eagle patch and from patch to rank(first sergent)

(right arm)...................stars and stripes and from patch to rank(first sergent)

I used to live in the Aldershot area and joined 6/7 Queens TA in Farnham back in 1978 (i think)

I remember the sign on all vehicles in the area but that is all

A copy of it would be great if you can manage it

Looking at the photos it looks very similar to the convoy lamps as fitted to Land Rovers and trailers

Does anyone remember the Aldershot Garrison sign/Badge that was on all vehicles in the 70's and early 80's

this was a red and yellow tigers head (i am trying to get a picture to re-create the badge)

when i did the Landy i did it bit by bit,

as i have nowhere under cover i literaly did one side Nato Green then another day i did the other side.

when it came to the black i used BLACKBOARD PAINT after i had done this i found out from a work mate that at one point there was no "Army" black available and they used any black they could get their hands on

the other good thing about 1980 (time set for paint and markings on 109)at this time most vehicles were brush painted (supplied in NATO GREEN and black added by units (6/7 Queens(V) who i was with we only had NATO GREEN until 1983(ish))

I have found the artical in Windscreen and we were looking at summer2005 issue 107 page 19 bottom left ( RES4652)

i appears that the left patch(as you look at it) is a white 24 on 3 vertical stripes of Red / Blue /Red

by the way this is to go on a friends 1967 S2a 88" Landy

I am trying to find the correct size for the old Division and Brigade patches that were on the front and rear of vehicles up until the 1970's

and also the colours for the RAOC (i think it may have been three vertical stripes red/blue/red

You could always 'spray ' it the army way!!!

find someone who does not want to do it and give them a 3" paint brush!

are you after the normal NATO green

(my 1979 109 is painted green / black)

the green i got from one of our MVT Group was as follows

273/2372 NATO GreenMatt IRR

(matt IRR finish to def stan 80-41/2- spraying.

provides a heat and petrol resistant finish with good outdoor stability. Conforms to the specific near IRR requirements for NATO Green to def stan 00-23. the equivalent brushing quality is supplied under ref. 273/2371

I contacted Becker about the best way to apply and they told meas the tin was past its best by date it would be best to brush it

I am not sure but Anchor Supplys might hav some

(at least it might be easier with a referance No)

Afriend has an 88in S2a (1967)

painted bronze green and marked up with red crosses (round)

on the doors

as he wishes to change the appearance some times

were there any other markings used on the doors?
