  1. Great work, keep them going. Just read entire thread over the last 3 days!!

Makes my little 452's journey to W&P look easy now!!

thanks pete. dosent matter what your driveing to war and peace nothings ever easy. we just all know its worth it when we get there

  2. Very smart! Just out of interest who did you use for the springs? Have you got much to do to the living wagon? should look good behind Floyd. No chance of 'idle hand syndrome' with you is there :-D

used a company we use at work http://www.jones-springs.co.uk/ stripped cleaned re temperd and new clamps made for £165 the pair. not worth me messing round with them for that money .

living van is bare as it was so ideal for me to do what i want to it

  3. thanks daz .like you have not been on here in a while allso

well i thought it was time i did a little update even tho i have not been posting for a while the work on floyd has continued .

over the christmas holidays i was prepareing floyd for the local new years day road run when suddenly the main air tank decided that it was going to leak . on inspection the tank had rusted and gone thin so was removed from the truck and had a new barrell welded into it. now is good as new . to get the tank out the only way i could was too release the u bolts and lift the chassis off the axel to give me room to drop the tank out the bottom past the diff . whille the tank was being welded i sent the rear leaf spings away to be re tempered and rebuilt at the same time .

also i have decided my trusty little hobbit box is no longer big enough so a replacemet has been found and purchased . :cool2:

  5. How's the compressor on the cummins? Does it keep up with the steering ok when your shunting round? It looked a tad smaller than the huge motor bike engine bolted to the meadows> Oh and what happened to the drivers windscreen?

the compressor keeps up fine no propblems at all with that . dont mention the windscreen i was haveing a bad day lifting the engnine in

  6. What do you mean smiling? He looks like the grumpiest Scammell owner i've ever seen:embarrassed: Are you missing the Meadows already:cool2: got a face like thunder in most of the vid>:( That Jake Brake of yours....how many settings has it got of is it just full on or off. some have different degrees of braking. Looking good though, Can't wait for some on road footage Hopefully we will be able to here it over oldguns whistling:D

oh trust me i was smileing :D got that stupid grin back on my face only driveing an explorer can give u ,:D

i will give do a better vid of the jake brake when its got a silencer on was rearly to noisy to do it properly yesterday . it has two settings hige and low low setting the jake brake only operates on 3 cylenders and on highe all 6 .

yea the whistling is a feture of most of oldguns vids as many may have noticed :D

  7. Not at all mate ! I just enjoy watching and filming ( and rebuilding slowly) Scammells ! Hope to see you at Great Dorset Steam Fair this year ! Floyd has some big trailers to pull now Mikes sold his Antar ! Just don't break nothing with all those new horses on tap ! Oh and I expect to see and hear the Jake howling all the way down the hill mate ! Defo one for Youtube !:D

i rearly do apreciate the vids andy i never get to see wot floyd looks like from the cab . love the music on the last bit was trying to hear wot the bloke next to u was saying , , have allready upset the people iving next to the yard with the jake brake . still got a fair bit of work get done .tho .

  8. Yep, that's the one.... ;) :cool2:

Also yes it does sound like the one you have seen because the docs I got with it list the previous owner as being in Doncaster, also it was in Nottingham before that as I have got both previous names and addresses in some of the docs (ought to write to both to see if they are still around and can give me some info - always the possibility they have passed on and don't want to offend anyone though?)

Not meant to be touching it yet, but since war & peace I just couldn't help myself:-D reckon the wife hasn't noticed - YET!, but I did get her driving it on Sunday

probably worth adding this in as well - Its reg is RFO 918, chassis no. 7879, vehicle no. 91 BD 81 and the winch is stamped with 18.06.1953 and I believe its spent some of its life with a fair or a circus? - (don't think the army normally used red, yellow and blue paint)

yes i do belive it is the same one i went to look at the give away is the mk 1 air filters on a mk 2 :-) i had a little drive of it only forwards and backwards in his garden . yes i remember being told it spent some time on the fair and had two gen sets either side of the crane on the back body hence the orginal back body being missing . thats all i can remember being told about its history

  9. A little smoky and could do with a new paint job! Bloody Garner Engine it's got to go....

i am pritty sure u are but ill check anyway are u the gentleman me and bernard were talking to at war and peac ? if so robs wasting his time trying to convince u to keep the gardner . u have allready been shown the path to somke free motering .:cool2:

  10. thanks for the comments

the dog was just voiceing his excitement that its running at last .

All runs well. oil pressure is good, engine warms up nicely. rear axel oil cooler warms nicely also so gd circulation in the cooling sytem jake brake works with a lovely burble but by the time i got round to playing with it the camra man had called it quits for the nite .

still got lots more to do prop shaft and clutch linkage to do next .

  11. hi everybody

i have managed to get a little further with the meadows pump system, but i have another problem. The alternator drive coupling , which is about 5 inches long ,vulcanized rubber at both ends , one of the ends which is vulcanized to the shaft has perished . I was just wondering does anyone know where i could get a replacement ? it was on the meadows petrol engine before i did the conversion to diesel. i dont think im able to take a picture, but when the rain stops i will try and see if i can get to it and take a pic.

    any help/suggestions gratefully recieved

    thanks shawn

    hi shawn

sorry i havent got round to replying to your pm yet i will get there at some point

regarding the drive coupling i am guessing that this is the dynamo drive ? bin the old one get two round picec turnd up to fit on either end of the drive and simply get a rubber peice of rad hose between the two with two hose clips to hold to i did this to mine and it worked fine . untill the headgasket went again :red:

will get a pic of it for u mate as the meadows is still sat where it landed when i took it out

    nick

  12. well i am happy to anounce to u all that the cummins is finaly IN :D

Had a very productive two days engine is in, crossmber back in, front axel is connected to the truck once more and the radiator is back on and it all looks like a truck again.

Engine went it easily. The only trouble was getting the front axel pin back in. Ended up picking up the whole front end of the truck and lineing it up that way .

Main job this week is to get a propshaft made up. Distance from the engine to gearbox coupling is 11 1/2".

pics are as follows sorry there are not more of them .
