  1. ...it cant be any worse than my Saracens :)

That's where you're wrong. It's every bit as bad as a Saracen, but with additional drive components and waterproofing to take into consideration.

Cool toys though, especially if it's a swimmer.

If you are looking to buy one, I would suggest buying the best one that you can find, even if it is more expensive than you had budgeted. Paying to fix things on one that isn't quite right will cost you more than that in the long run.

    Cheers,

    Terry

  2. Mine rattles and carries on much like what you described with the transfer case in neutral, it also howls a bit on the overrun. It's probably a bearing that is on its way out, but I've done over 1500km with no real problems, so it can't be too serious.

    Cheers,

    Terry

  3. I can't tell from the picture, but is that a pressure relief cap? If not, you're going to have problems. The Ferret is designed to overflow excess coolant out of the pressure relief valve on top of the radiator when it gets too high. The vehicle is not fitted with an overflow bottle. You're also not going to be able to access the cap when the armour is installed.

  4. For the Ferret, you will need:

    OMD 110 - Use a straight 30W or 10W30 engine oil.

    OEP 220 - Use a straight 90W gear oil or an 85W90.

OM13 - Use either an ISO 10 hydraulic fluid or automatic transmission fluid (Only in the flywheel, do not use ATF in the brake system of a Saracen!).

  5. A better question would be, what kind of vehicle are you planning on putting it on? From there you can determine what power connectors are available to you and select a plug appropriately.

The one that you linked _could_ be a Clansman type 2 pin power connector, but it's difficult to tell for sure.

  6. I'm mostly after the internal storage boxes from the left side of the interior. As I have 2 Ferrets, which are amazingly missing the same things, I really need 2 of each, but I'll take what I can get :)

    • Large ammo box that goes on the escape hatch (holds 4 .30 ammo boxes, with the cage on the front for the MG tools box).
    • Small ammo box that goes next to the escape hatch (holds 1 .30 ammo box).
    • 88 set radio box.
    • Grenade bins

I also need 2 of the little props that go on the top front of the turret and hold the lid up a bit when it's open.

The second Ferret is an Australian Mk 2, but has been robbed of its turret. A turret and base plate would be nice, but another option is that I would be happy to convert it to Mk 1 specification. For that I would need the roof components and all of the internal fittings for either Bren or Browning. If I can get the roof set, I can live without the rest for now.

I could also use various bits of CES.

Postage is to Adelaide, South Australia. I know that it will be expensive, but it's part of the game of owning old British armour.

Let me know what you've got.

    Cheers,

    Terry

  7. For modern military contracts, they usually aren't just for a unit price to cover equipment (value of contract divided by number of units is not equal to the unit cost).

They generally go for a set period of time (20 years or so) and include things like:

    • Training
    • Spares
    • Maintenance
    • Overhaul
    • Logistics
    • Infrastructure

Of course, the M777 is top of the line and full of titanium, so it's not a cheap gun...

  8. Facebook is excellent for interaction, but it doesn't create a searchable reference library like a decent forum; it's more a point in time community and probably equates best to the old school bulletin boards or mailing lists.

I don't like the fact that it is sucking the life out of forums, but since that's where a lot of the action is, that's where I tend to go.

I agree that finding the groups can be a challenge too.

As for the Saracen pics, yes please!

    Cheers,

    Terry
