  1. Hi Folks, I'm in a jam...... I bought a replacement inlet/exhaust manifold for my K9 last year and I've just started on the work. Unfortunately the one I bought has a crack in it, plus the inlet ports are smaller on the new one, the inserts won't therefore fit and I doubt there's enough surface to make a good seal. also my carb wont fit the new inlet. My old inlet wont fit the new exhaust manifold either. so I'm now desperately seeking another inlet/exhaust manifold for a 1954 K9. Can anyone help?? Cheers, C.
  2. I fixed the head up to a hosepipe yesterday and flushed her out for a couple of hours, letting the water out at different points. There seemed to be a good flow. At some point someone has fitted a heater box which sits about 3 inches above the filler cap. The top pipe being around 6 inches higher than that. I'm wondering if that could have caused an airlock in the head?
  3. My filler cap seals ok, at idle/ fast idle the temp drops, at 30mph it will boil in around 3-4 miles, if I pull over and let her idle again she'll drop to 70c in a few minutes. Mine has other issues though, a large crack near the last bolt hole on the exhaust manifold no. 6 cylinder for one....
  4. There's a possibility that I might need one. Anyone know where I might source one? Cheers, C.
  5. The saga continues........ Well I fixed up the manifold, no blowing now. I left Norwich at 9 this morning, arrived in Cambridge at 4.30, driving 3 miles at a time and letting the old girl cool in between. Took the thermostat out halfway but she still overheated. Going to get the rad flushed tomorrow, lots of sludge on the cap. Just a thought, I fitted one of Frank Jolley's electronic ignition kits and high power coil over the winter. I wonder if that might be adding to the problem? C.

  7. Thanks guys, I've got some rad cleaner in there now...... I think my overheating is due to leaks on my exhaust manifold. Theres a big crack next to the lug on no.6 cyl. I've been putting off dealing with it because of this. However she boiled up on a short run after fitting a new thermo so I've bitten the bullet. Still going to be a bodge to get me through, using exhaust gasket material and high temp epoxy but it'll have to do until I can find a new manifold & gasket....... Anyone?? C.
  8. Guess I've answered my own question, drif it and sleave with an old chair leg, a hammer, and some Plusgas.... Lucky I found a spare in my stock.
  9. Hi Folks, My K9 has started to over heat, at first just running a bit hot, last time I moved her she boiled up very quickly. I've taken the thermo housing off the truck but can't see how to remove the thermostat. It's either just corroded in there or there's something I'm not doing right. I've taken the small bolt out of the side. It looks like it should drift out but it's stuck fast: I don't have access to my manuals here...... Any advice? Cheers, Crispin.
  10. Thanks guys, I was quoted £220 + vat by Jolleys which I thought was a bit steep, for my pocket anyhow. Might have to bite the bullet. Cheers, C.
  11. Thanks Clive, Can't find any Lucas 410828 points online let alone an electronic match. Might have to take a punt at the whole distributor..... Cheers, C.
  12. Hi Folks, I'm looking to change over to electronic ignition on my K9, however I have the twin points screened dizzy. I may be able to fit a DM6 dizzy but it would be easier to just replace the points on the existing one. I can't find the part No. for the points though to try and match them up with anything. Has anyone successfully converted a screened dizzy or does anyone know what the part No. is for the points? Any help very much appreciated! Cheers, C.
  13. Hi Clive, Is yours shielded or un shielded? Thanks C.
  14. Hi Richard, I think you may be correct. My manual does indeed state that the unshielded dizzy is a DM6. Once I found it! My Austin parts list only gives an Austin part no. for the distributor: 3H 2614, Thats for the single points/vac advance model. Cheers, C.
  15. Confused.... 40472a comes out as CW and +ground. My dizzy os CCW and -ground. Simon at PowerSpark says he can supply a DM6 in CCW -ground so maybe I'll give it a try.......
  16. I'm also thinking Shearline, Princess etc......
  17. Hi folks, I'm having trouble with my dual points distributor on my K9 and was looking at going pointless ignition. Prices for my dizzy (screened though now not needed) are a bit steep at £220 + vat. A friend has mentioned that the engine is basically an MGC and that a single points dizzy from an Austin Healey or summat might fit. Any ideas? Cheers C.
  18. Hi folks, Can anyone tell me what the gaps for plugs and points should be, also where to get new plugs and what type. Mine are the shielded type, with wierd looking plugs.......... Cheers, C.
  19. Thanks for the replies folks, My T roadster is a vintage hotrod and therefore a bitsa. Has 40s Pilot running gear, propshaft (not torque tube) and a Bedford CF 5 speed box. Would I have the same problem? I think it's near 2 tonnes with the flathead V8 so well overweight anyway. Cheers, C.
  20. .......I have a feeling that the law has changed but unsure. I see that alot of motorhomes A-bar those litte Fiat 500s etc. Does anyone have any info on the law? Ta, C.
  21. Thanks for the info, that's cleared that up. Cheers. Cx
  22. .....multifuel? A passerby said perhaps she is. Any ideas? Cheers, C.
  23. Thanks guys, as I thought ;-)
  24. I may be stoopid but.............. I'm sure I read somewhere that the 4wd on a K9 was 'part time' but the chap I'm buying mine from says no. So are they or aren't they? C.
