Hello again Bernard , I have heard that the gearbox can be removed from underneath instead of through the cab floor ! I was just wondering which method you had used ? Just found this photo of Forcefull on my computer not sure where I uploaded it from now !

Croc has a Leyland 680 powerplus diesel donk in his Explorer, i can honestly say i have never seen ANY engine start faster from cold, its amazing, sounds sweet and runs smooth, nice sized alternative if you want to ditch the Meadows! ive got some video of it running, which i will get onto HMVF TV soon.

Another beauty ! With living accommodation on tow lovely way to travel I imagine !

This picture shows the balloons being tethered together to give enough lift to raise the bomb to its detonation altitude !

This is the Constructor driven by my father on Christmas Island during operation Grapple ! When Britain tested her first Hydrogen bomb ! It is one of only two of this type as shown in Pat Wares great book "Tugs of War "Pg.124 ! Many thanks to N.O.S for pointing this out to me !

This Explorer isn't mine but belongs to a mate who keeps it at my place. I can't find a note of the chassis number just now but it is an early one. It still has the Meadows petrol destroyer.

He bought it from the late Bill Henderson of Ballochmyle who in turn had bought it from the garage in Dalbeattie

It was one of the worst tow jobs I ever did with the Matador, It had stood for years without turning as wheel, with the result that the tyres all had flats on them, at anything more than about ten MPH the resultant vibration would have shaken the teeth from your head.

Heavy Ack Ack is no more, one result of the great crash is that my user name reverted back to my original one taken from the wartime publication about AA command.

 

anyway,while your thinking about what to put on next Mike, here are a couple of pics of my old Matador before it was destroyed in the fire at Dalcrue, this had been converted to a recovery by L W Vass and used by Grahams of Paisley. I rebuilt it in the early 90s to an artillery tractor using the body from a Mk II millitant.

Blimey she was a beauty what a shame she was destroyed , must be gutting ! Was this a storage facility fire or accident on the road ? Any info on the Explorer in the pics please mate ? Looks like you have a lovely collection of vehicles ! Andy F

Thanks for taking the time to list your problems Bernard ! You have obviously had a lot of grief ! We done for persevering for so long ! My engine has had second hand heads fitted by the previous owner and I bought two N.O.S heads of Ebay as well as two N.O.S. head gaskets from a chap up north who had previously had all sorts of ex-military vehicles ! The previous owner had fitted a points and condenser ignition system and I hope to keep that system as I don't have any experience of magneto's at present ! It is my intention to do a couple of rallies a year but my main aim is to preserve the old girl as best I can ! It really is a labour of love ! Thanks again for the reply ! Andy F.

Hi Bernard , you have documented your love of the Meadows petrol engine and I know Forcefull now has a Cummins Diesel and that you had several Meadows fail ! I was wondering if the same fault occured or was it several different failures and do you think anything would have helped possibly to prevent them occuring ? I am hoping to keep my Daisy Meadows powered if possible so any tips will be much appreciated ! Andy F
