  1. Thank you to all of the replies so far. They are all very constructive. Unfortunately with regard the idea of having a base drawing and altering it accordingly is great in principle but not practical and not possible. I understand that most owners will want to personalise their own vehicles. Once the drawing is completed it is difficult to change anything without spoiling the original drawing or damage the paper after several attempts to rub out certain areas and add new ones. The joys of traditional artwork compared to computer generated.

I first began drawing and painting military vehicles in my last year of Art College, after a keen interest in plastic kits as a boy. I guess I moved my eye for detail from plastic onto paper or canvas. Most of the early images were in watercolour, where as now the colour ones tend to be more Oil, and obviously pencil for the black and white. If there was enough demand for Military vehicles I would gladly paint and draw them every week. Here's hoping!

I will certainly look at other vehicles, but at this stage I am looking for another model to go with the existing civilian Landrover, as that is already finished and ready yo go to print. It is an accurate copy of an existing Landrover. So please do keep the advice and opinions coming.

I look forward to reading them.

  2. Hi Wayne,

Thank you for your advice. I also checked out your website links, and there's some nice work on the Gallery site. I also see that you aren't a million miles from here, and we do have friends in Hereford. I don't know if you are interested in having a look at my website, and again advice and comments are always welcome.

    David.

  3. I recently finished a Pencil Sketch of a Landrover. The image is a civilian one, but I wanted to add a Military one to go with it. My project is to produce Prints of the Images and have the option of adding a personal number plate to each print.

Id there a military Landrover that would have this sort of appeal? I am most welcome to any advice or suggestions. Obviously accuracy and military knowledge is essential, so please do voice your opinions.

  4. very nice, would love to get one done of my Jeep, do you take commissions?

Yes I do commissions and if you can supply a photo I can work something out from that.

    Kind Regards,

    David.

  5. Do you do these for a fee? if so what kind of money and what kind of size is that finished item?

    Very impressive work.

Thank you for your comment, and yes I do do these for a fee. Each image is individual, and if you can send an image of your vehicle, I can sort something out for you.

    Kind Regards,

    David.

  6. Apologies for the wrong name, in my haste to share the finished drawing I didn't check the full details. I will now go away and polish up on my Jeep recognition.

In reply to all the enquiries yes, I do do commissions, as was this particular Jeep. Each image is individual, so from a supplied photo via e-mail I can be more specific.

So please do feel free to drop me a line. I look forward to speaking to you further.

And just to keep the Jeep theme going here is one I prepared earlier.Web Willy's Jeep & figures.jpg

  7. Hi Martin,

The paint was a special PVC paint that as it dries it bonds itself to the skirt. As for price, I am not sure about the price today. This original job was completed in 1986, so a couple of years ago now. The paint I still have so I am assuming it does have some longevity to it. The price of the tin was in the region of £15 ish for a 7.5 litre tin. If you would like any more details please don't hesitate to contact me.

    Kind Regards,

    David.

  8. This is a photo of my first official job in Business. A simple task of painting the Grange Cavern Letterhead on the side of a Lorry with the biggest measurements (approx) 8 feet by 5 feet. Two side skirts and the back of the lorry, using a PVC paint that bonded to the plastic of the lorries skirt, and made it weather proof.

A great way for the owner/director of the Museum to advertise his Museum as he drove up and down the Country in his Haulage Business.

Only one word or warning - Be careful with the fumes from the paint! Web Grange Cavern Lorry.jpg

  10. Whilst looking through some old photos of the Grange Cavern Museum, I came across dome old photos that I had taken at the same time as part of my photography course in College. The kits I had made when I was about fifteen or sixteen, and the photos were taken 2 or 3 years later. See what you think.Bren Gun Carrier.jpg

  11. Well here it is, and I hope the wait is worth it. Don't forget that this was written the old fashioned way, with a type writer and then it was copied and pasted. Way before computer's. As it is fifteen pages I'll post it in three sections. Here's the first. Enjoy(I hope?)

As the text is a little too small to read, and the files are too big to upload normally I will have a look at this and re-post it this week.

  12. I and many others on the forum will look forward to seeing these no doubt about that!

Just a follow up to my recent post. I have found the Thesis, and it is only fifteen pages long. I am setting up my tent and finishing a cat portrait today. But I will as soon as possible, scan the pages and load them on here for all to read, bearing in mind I was only about twenty when I wrote it, so be gentle with the criticism. In the meantime here is a taster to wet the appetite so to speak.Web L.R.D.jpg
