  1. Hi all, If you are on facebook, I have opened a new page called Recon Military Photos where I will be posting tons of photos from my personal collection. There will be picture from WW2 up to the present and will be pretty heavy on vehicles. I made this page because of a suggestion by my friend, Mark Barnes. Check it out and if you like it please “LIKE” it https://www.facebook.com/photorecon101abn?ref=hl Mike Haines
  2. WELL, IT"S NOT THE WAR AND PEACE SHOW BUT...The 2010 WACO Military Experience is almost here! July, 9, 10 & 11 And it is going to be bigger and better than last year!!! A couple of big changes this year will be a tactical demonstration area so we can have a couple of small "battles". Also the Sherman tank demos will be on the near side of the runway unlike last year when it was almost too far away. There will additional armor presence this year with the addition of a M5A1 Stuart tank and a V100 Commando armored car as well as last year's favorites, the M4A3E8 Sherman from the Allen County Historical Museum in Lima. Ohio and Tom Price's LVT 4, "Tom's Joy" that was featured in the movie FLAGS OF OUR FATHERS. We will have several small convoys into Troy throughout the weekend. There will be reenactors and living historians from several time periods from the French and Indian war through Vietnam . There will be firing demos of several weapon types such as the Revolutionary war era 6 pounder cannon, the Sherman tank's 76mm gun and various small arms. There will be more militaria vendors and militaria displays this year as well as stage presentations on various subjects throughout the weekend. Also new this year will be a vehicle pass in review. There will be a larger aircraft presence this year also and it looks like we are going to have at least 2 planes giving rides and one is an SNJ. ADMISSION PRICE DOES INCLUDE ENTRY INTO THE MUSEUM, UNLIKE LAST YEAR. http://www.wacomilitary.com/ Show flyer http://www.wacoairmuseum.org/wme%20pic.jpg Pre registration is NOT required regardless what the brochure says, it is however recommended Please contact me for the complete schedule or any other questions Thanks, Mike Haines (937)773-5831 mhaines75@woh.rr.com
  3. Neil, I'll work on that! Would love to have you! And while we are at it we should get that fellow on your side of the pond with the Valentine DD tank and bring him along too! Mike
  4. I am the chairman of the military vehicle portion of the 2010 WACO MILITARY EXPERIENCE in Troy Ohio July 9,10 & 11. This will be the second year for this event and we are going to make it bigger and better! By all accounts the 2009 show was very well like by those that attended and everybody says it was very well done and has great potential. Our biggest obstacle in 2010, as far as military vehicles go, is that the show is at the same time as the MVPA national Convention in Topeka, Kansas July 8-10. This will cause us to loose some potential vendors, participants and attendees. In 2011 this won't be a problem because the MVPA convention is in August at the Nutter Center in Dayton. Please look this posting over and let me know if it sounds like an event you would like to attend or if you have any suggestions to help us reach our goal as one of the premiere Military shows in the Midwest. To try and help judge the interest in this years event I am looking for input and the level of interest in attending from the following groups; Military vehicle owners All makes, models, size, period or country. Including amphibious vehicles. Reenactors All periods Vendors Vehicle parts, militaria, reenactor supplies and books. Aircraft owners Flyovers, displays WACO Field has a grass 2200 foot runway (1800 feet usable) Military collectors For displays, all periods Photos from last years event can be seen at these links by aragh_wolf by cavscout217 http://www.flickr.com/photos/wc62/ 4th of July Parade For 2010, the Troy 4th of July committee has asked us to participate with vehicles etc. in their parade which is something we are looking forward to doing. Due to the fact the parade will be the weekend before the show we will be planning some kind of "Military Week" displays or activities throughout the week around the Troy area to keep the interest level up during the week between the 2 events. Some of the proposed events Amphibious vehicle swim demo This past year we were fortunate enough to have 2 amphibious vehicles in attendance at the show, a DUKW and a LVT4. The owners of these vehicles have expressed their desire to "swim" their vehicles at the 2010 event. Work has begun to try and secure the permission to stage an amphibious event in the Great Miami River which flows through downtown Troy as part of the Historic River Corridor project the city is promoting in 2010. If we get approval for this I would hope we could atract more amphibious vehciles. Time line marching unit It has been suggested that along with vehicles in the July 4th parade we will try to get together a marching unit that will be a timeline type of thing with reenactors from all periods as well as perhaps current service members. Sunday morning military field religious service We would like to have a WW2 style (you now, off the hood of a jeep) non denominational religious service. We need to locate a reenactor that can portray a WW2 military chaplain, or a minister willing to play the part. More aircraft content The committee is working hard to increase the aircraft content of this year's show. Numerous pilots have expressed interest in participation in the event next year including the Commemorative Air Force and the Bamboo Bomber .We have a ride pilot interested in the weekend who flies a New Standard biplane that can haul 4 passengers at a time. We are also planning a display of aircraft engines both static and running. We hope to have a flyover of a C-5A Galaxy from Wright Patterson AFB. 5. Why shouldn't it be in English? I had an ex Norwegian WC51 that was rebuilt by a U.S. Army ordnance unit in Germany in 1952. Many of these vehicles soldiered on well into the 1950s in U.S. service prior to being supplied to our European friends. Mike Haines 1943 WC62
  6. Mark, I believe that I have posted here in the past but I can't remember when or why. Mike
  7. Hi All, I just wanted to take a minute to inform everybody of an upcoming Military Vehicle / Aircraft event. The Waco Military Experience, military show and swap meet will be on July 10,11 & 12 in Troy Ohio, The site is the Waco Air museum. A fully restored operational M4A3E8 Sherman tank is scheduled to be there as well as a M1 Abrams and possibly a LVT-4 as well as many soft skin vehicles, displays, dealers and re-enactors and off course military aircraft. For more info see the flyer at the following link. http://www.wacoairmuseum.org/docs/flyer.pdf Hope to see you all there! Mike Haines 1943 WC62
