As I entered a layby I took the wing mirror of an unmarked police car, but he was alright about it. The fact he was partly out of uniform and had a young lady in the car with a very red face and not many clothes might be why he didn't want to go to the insurers

An Artic is limited to 15.9 metres, but a heavy locomotive towing multiple trailer can run at 25.9 metres, providing one of the trailers is less than 7 Metres. When running like this I am 25.850 metres.
The Dyson follows a treat, and the rear trailer is a lot narrower so you can forget about that. The only problem is that reverse is out of the question so you always have to be able to move forward. Ie don't turn down dead ends or stop so close to a vehicle that you can't go round it should it choose that moment to break down.
The other problem with running like this is I am about 66 tons and only 300 BHP gross.

I have only seen pictures of Dummy trailer recovering Antar when it has been used behind another Antar. I have seen pictures of Antars being recovered by EKA Crusaders on a front end lift, but although it may have been done I have never seen A Militant recovering an Antar...
It was more normal to recover an Antar by use of a Tow bar behind another antar, and for this reason dummy half shaft caps were provided so that the outer road wheels could be remounted after the half shafts were pulled.

No ballast, choose lowest gear and stay in it. and once you strt spinning wheels stop immediately to save the tyres.

Loaded up and ready to leave for home GDSF2007 ( only 260 miles to go!)
There were two Control Caravans at Newark Air museum, I think at least one was single axle. I'll see if I can find the piccys I took and post them sometime over the W/E

You can't recover a Ballast box Antar on a rear end lift with a dummy axle. The mudguards foul the Dummy Axle wheels on turns. You can recover an Artic Antar on a rear end lift but the Antar Back Axle wheels have to come of because of the same reason.
And an Antars lifting Jib or davit won,t lift a wheel high enough to get it into the ballast box. It can only lift a wheel about 6" higher than the spare wheel stowage position behind the Ballast Box...
An Antar wheel weighs 5Cwt, Even a team of squaddies would have to work hard to get four onto the top of the ballast body!

And this is my Matador on the tractor pull at GDSF a few years ago...Any Matador fans out there?

I don't have to say anymore do I?

Scammell on the trailer is 15' 0" tall. It means I have to watch bridge heights as well as weights.

Do you know John Marchant in Milton Keynes who is maade about Canadian tackle?

Mine, I was towing it behind everything else, but it is not what it seems . The Chassis is from an Army "Mobile Bakery trailer" and the body was from a Brockhouse ackerman steering "Binned stores" trailer. The two have been married together to make my rally home.

Bringing The Explorer home behind my Douglas (no I know it's not military, that is my Civvy Vintage Vehicle)

Sorry about quality, (Phone Camera) but it shows how hairy things got and explains why the paint is burnt of the trailer in the Earlier axle articulation photo...

Nearly didn't have a scammell anymore after a tyre fire on the Dyson Trailer with the (still Petrol) Scammell on the back, (and the fuel tank on that side too)

My Antar went to RAF DGW Airfield Construction branch so it looks better with this Caterpillar D8 load, in my opinion

Not mine, but the other Dorset steam fair Antar, care of John Atlee with the REME Museum Conqueror ARV on board

I'll have to look for that "T" I haven't noticed it yet. Eager Beaver is a bit of a handful on the road, I drove it back 30 miles and didn't dare go above 30MPH (Claimed top is 40) . and the reversed gate on the gearbox takes some remembering!

and this is the Eager Beaver. The roll cage obviously shouldn't be there but safety and common sense says leave it on

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q208/antarmike/DSC_0688.jpg[/img] I wonder if this works

Yes largely RL bits, axles gearbox. the transfer gearbox is listed as Leyland in everything I have seen.
There appears to be limit switches on ram movements that work an electrically operated solenoid valve that closes off the hydraulic supply. I assume there is a switch to overide the shutdown so you can jog the ram back off the limit switch, but this seems to have been bypassed. Am I right in assuming what is supposed to happen?

to recover an Antar on the dummy trailer you have to remove the back wheels. Four wheels at 5 Cwt each is a Ton. How and where do you carry the wheels you have had to take off?

You need C+E (old HGV1). You have to give 2 days notice to police because of width (10' 9") not because of the length. My round trip to Dorset is 520 Miles and that takes 200 Gallons of Diesel. On top of that I do about another 300-350 miles to local shows..
Average is about 2.75 MPg and roadspeed is 31 MPH max 22-25 MPH Average depending on the amount of dual carraigeway I can work into the route.
