  1. I was Signals in the RAF on a unit called Tactical Communications Wing, and we had Gold Doves with a bolt of lightning through it as a stencil, the gold paint was obtained from a local hardware store. The stencil was applied to the centre of each front door, the later 110's had the stencil done in black or green depending on how the camouflage was applied.

244 Sigs used to have a red hand stencil in the same place on Series 3 landrovers, and i believe that 30 Sigs had black swans, this was between 87 - 91.

  2. They also have a tendency to wind up the owners .............. and owners wives

My wife seems to think it'll make a great lawn ornament......now that's why i married her!!!

And the front diff engages/disengages from 4wd as required, so in that respect it works quite well, hopefully reducing the tendency to leave big ruts in said lawn :-D

  3. The current Logo works, i haven't been on here for long, but it is identifiable.

It also caters for all era's/Nationality of vehicle, unlike the MVT (of which i am a member) logo, which is very WW2 American look, i personally wouldn't have it near Post-war brit stuff!!

  4. It has the name PIG for a reason ya know. :-D

At least you got it home.

It's better to get all the problems out in the open so you can see what you've got coming.

I'm a great believer in driving a new purchase home so you find out all the pros and cons. Otherwise, you wouldn't have found out about the problems until you were making your way to your first show.

Hope all goes well Adam and give us a picture.

    Markheliops

Already sorted the misfiring out for a while, had the ignition stuff pulled out and cleaned up, it was all a bit manky

The brakes, not to sure either a valve sticking or a vacuum problem.

    The exhaust is easy enough.

Unfortunately i was so busy fixing the B*****d thing, i didnt get a chance to take any photo's, but they will be following soon..

  5. Collected the MK1 APC (with winch...oooer) on Sunday, and drove it back home, a distance of 24 miles, it then started to do the following.......

Back brakes locked on! fluid pressure not releasing, who says Pig brakes aren't good!!

Misfiring, the last owner thoughtfully forgetting to tighten up the dizzy cover nuts!

Exhaust down pipe dropped out of the bottom of the manifold..quite loud!

Then it ran out of petrol 10 yards from the house, all of this in the space of 3 hours including stopping to fix it.

But it's home and it's all mine, just need to spend some time fettling it, probably with a large hammer :-D

  6. So sorry mate - already commited to supporting the other kind of Pig - the one that comes from Denmarks, sizzles nicely and REALLY upsets others

    EDITED FOR POLITICAL REASONS

:-D :-DThe Danish used pigs in Cyprus.....which is fairly hot!! :-D

Doing my bit to raise awareness, i'll be the proud owner of a MK1 Pig this weekend!!

  7. Thompson weatherseal (As used on brickwork) is indeed very good, it even states on the tin that it can be used on canvas etc, and it costs about a tenner for 5 ltrs.

For best results, take off the canvas, lay out flat and then jet-wash using some detergent, to get the dirt out of the weave otherwise the proofer will seal in the dirt.

Let the canvas dry and then apply proofer before putting the canvas back on the vehicle, as the proofer will do a good job of adhering to the paintwork.

Had a FFR series 3 with a canvas roof up here in Aberdeenshire, in use everyday over a severe winter, and not one drop of water got in through the canvas....it just came in through the floors instead!! :-D

  8. You read the magazines, you know the technical specs of a particular vehicle inside out, but what are they like to own and drive?

Are Pigs really a pig, Ferret rash..sounds nasty, do you get out of the vehicle feeling like you have been boiled and battered, or does the power delivery and roar make it all worth while!

An opportunity to put your (preferably non rose tinted!) vehicle on a civvy road test!

  9. That's what i meant! the only in service pictures i have seen have had empty jerry can holders and a shovel.

Also I seem to recall seeing a canvas bag strapped to the front nearside wing and a large boxy looking something with a canvas cover on the offside wing.

And just so the rear wings arent left out, what was stored in them?

  10. I read an article about a 4x4 trip through the interior of Iceland during the summer, wading ability is a must, and the terrain is a moonscape epic with bubbling pools and ice flows to contend with!

Anyway i digress away from the subject, for those interested, at the "Grampian" show there was for restoration the following brit softskins:

    Leyland Hippo

    Morris 15 cwt compressor truck

    Bedford QL

Universal Bren carrier (not particularly soft!)

All sold except the Hippo, which was a runner.

  11.

It's a bit like a psychedelic 60's VW camper for a new age of rap artists that want to "Pop a cap in your ass" (Personally i like to keep milliners and my derriere seperate) Im surprised they didn't chrome the tracks!

  12. As you can see this EOD Pig has been damaged by a van that drove into it.

I bet it took ages to clean off all that broken glass!

I have seen some pictures of an Abbot in private hands, that had rolled down a slope it had been parked on, without brakes and then came to a stop on top of a Jeep Cherokee, fortunately nobody was involved in the accident.

  13. [quote

It can run on "kerosene" & has a "4.6 litre" engine. So the seller doesn't know about B60s or perhaps it has something else under the bonnet?

So not only has he been running it on the wrong cheap insurance carrying fare paying passengers, but he has been evading paying fuel tax by running it on kero!!

  14. With reference to Paying to get in to W&P, i feel that paying to get in is probably a bit off!

Surely they make enough from stalls and public entrance?

I attended a show at Grampian Transport Museum, it was held over a weekend, and on the saturday evening the museum put on a barbecue and had sorted out some sponsorship from the local pub who put on barrels of beer etc. Speaking with the curator, he was more than happy to keep on the exhibitors side, the public paying to get in and covering the costs.

This was an excellent show! a good balance of every type of vehicle, post war, and WW2 axis/allied with some large armour in attendance.

And generally acknowledged as one of the best military vehicle shows held for a while, very friendly atmosphere and enjoyed by the public.

I think it was good, because it wasnt big! it was a group of military petrolheads there for the love of it and in that respect i shouldnt think W&P could touch it. A well done to GTM for organising it, and i believe it will now be an annual regular.
