  1. After nine months of planning, the Shopland Collection team was delighted with our event at Tyntesfield House, held in partnership with the National Trust and in association with the Imps and the Blitz Buddies. This is a fabulous venue for a Forties weekend that attracted nearly 100 vehicle entries, one Dakota and plenty of re-enactors. With a Home Front focus this little event drew the crowds in their thousands, filling all the car parks to capacity. Please check out the photos on Tyntesfield WWII Weekend Facebook page and on the Collection web site.

  2. Hello James,

Thats well done, nice choice of truck. Was supposed to bring my MW to your show last year, to meet up with dave the previous owner. I didn't get it done in time, but i've nearly finished it now, 12 months late but hey .

If i can get it done it time......and find some transport, will you accept a late entry?

    Regards

    John

Just let me know at the soonest; I will pen you in as a provisional! :cheesy:

  3. Hello everyboby,

    I'm Kenny, 31 years old.

    From NORMANDY (FALAISE)

From my youngest age (thanks to my father) I've been in touch with seconde world war vehicules but, never gone for it.

For a long time now I'm seriously thinking of restoring a SWW vehicules.

Just need to find it (firstly).

This forum is really great. Congratulations.

    Cheers.

Kenny, it is definitely a bug that is hard to shake off! I am sure there are plenty of WWII vehicle hiding in French barns. You need to get out there and see what you can find. Bonne chance mon ami

  4. After a couple of busy days the reason for the leak was found, the rear core plug was rotte through. I removed the gearbox in the manner describe in the handbook therefor compressor removed, giving a look in to gearbox, which was rather good.

The sumb need futher cleaning than I already had given it, I also cleaned the oil pump just to be sure that it had not sucked muck in to it.

We had a very similar problem with out old QLR last year leaking water out of the rear core plug.....never a dull moment. :)

  5. Hi James, have managed to look back through the magazines and it was a gentleman by the name of Robin Davies who purchased three of these from a Peter Naylor in Helpston, Lincolnshire for Corralls before transporting them back to Portsmouth. So that clears up that one!

It was mentioned in Classic and Vintage Commercials and had some good pictures of the Crossley's if anyone had missed it.

    Scott

Thanks Scott, I have to admit I have never heard of either of these gentlemen. Is Robin restoring them?

  6. It was possible (certainly with the RAF and I would assume the Army too) to have the base colour as Khaki Green, No 3 as usual but to have the disruptive pattern painted in Light Green, No 5. I assumed this was the look they were going for here?

Ted - unfortunately, I have yet to uncover a photograph of the recovery Matador. I've only come across a reference to it in a history of 51 MT, but it's been something I've been keeping a special eye out for.

Have to admit I kind of like it......think we will be keeping it :cheesy:

  7. I recollect that QL tanker when it came up for sale a few years ago, the photo on this thread was one of several and I recall the other side of the lorry was painted differently, maybe so that on the film it could appear as another vehicle. Might be wrong, but this comes to mind.

James, do you now own it?

    Yes
