  1. Next mission was to remove the Turret with a little help from a militant!! Having never taken one off before I undid every bolt I could find and gave it a good yank!! nah only joking!! First I removed all the lower bolts securing the turret ring to the hull, after a good look under the turret basket and a conversation with my good friend John (Valentine DD) We lifted the turret about 8 inches so all the connections to the electrics could be removed from the drivers seat, facing to the rear. This is the result......:)

  2. I will bear that in mind when my militant/mini disapear see thread on Saladin!! and oh god help we havent even got an engine yet!!! I will be watching my stuff very carefully!!! lol, An idea for you Mr P paid 2K for a MK1 and put a diesel in it pics can be seen of it swimming on the stolly forum.yahoo .

  3. At the mad house the latest project for the winter (ok its only July!!) is an Alvis Saladin

We could do with parts if anyone has any??

This Saladin was rescued from a paintball site 3 years ago by us and some nutty friends!! Now time to attack it and get it done so here starts the madness!! Unfortunatly there is no running gear in it, so the plan is to Dieselise it using an original pre select gearbox out of a Malaysian Saladin, which have a higher final drive, to give 45MPH at 2600 RPM, this was using a Perkins Phaser Diesel engine rated at 140BHP. I intend to use a Cummins B series engine rated at 180BHP, with near 600 lbsft torque, they also have a higher rpm at up to 3250, which should also give a cruise speed of 40MPH with no problems, the point for this is I intend to do over 3000 miles in its first show season! Also the braking system will be air over hydraulic donated from an Iveco truck as the Malasians used, They also used the drum brakes from a Saracen. So their fleet of Saladins and Saracens were uniform in maintainance and logistics. But we are not going that far! I did think about Stalwart brakes but after closer inspection the saladin brakes are in good condition.

  4. I have to agree with you Dave has tom tom on phone with receiver, im not impressed have a tomtom as a stand alone device much better, although it doesnt get much use, mostly i know where im going, but to find an address its good! but i've got one of Simons famous maps, its good but did you notice a lack of places like hop farm????don't trucks eva deliver to these places???? hmmmm, would be good refrence points i think! well thats my opinion any way!

    AHHHH! I see.

    I had a Nokia N73 (until I recently lost it, bu##er!).

And I loaded Tom Tom on it, only problem was that it tended to stop talking to the sat receiver, usually when you needed it most!

Anyone thinking of going this route, I can't recommend it, buy a dedicated sat Navy instead.

  5. Yeah si thats what it was aimed at!!!!!

    lol!!!

There's a gag in there some where!

Does this go for Mr P as well Zoe???

" I popped into Honest Rex's second hand armour and bought a Cent, forgive me darling!"

  6. Yes Simon that seems a bit familiar those words you uttered re buying a military vehicle??? dont know why?????????? UM???

Rear body looks Bedford MJ/MK to my eye.

As for buying cheap Milly's off Ebay, hundreds of miles from home, I did and there's nothing wrong with me! :nut: :nut: :nut:

    When buying a military vehicle;

    Rush in

    Forget logistics

Ignore that fact you can't afford it

    Worry about the consequences latter

Try and make sure it's bigger than the last one (keep last one for comparison)

Then, and only then, tell the wife

Hope this helps, Simon Stolly (single for some reason) :dunno:

  8. Military Mayhem 2007

This show is on the August Bank Holiday as a direct replacement to the Stoneleigh Town and Country Show, as a private organisation has taken over the running of the show and it is no longer on, they seem to have alienated most of the stall holders and have put in place too many restrictions causing problems to all who display, especially those who travelled long distances as they were not allowed to leave until late in the evening.

As a result the Birmingham and West Midlands Mvt branch have organised their own show nearby.

Military Mayhem 2007 has been organised as the first annual event of our group. The Show is to be held at Five Ways Lakes, Wolvey which is 2 miles fron the J2 of the M6/M69 junction giving us a central location, with Coventry, Nuneaton, Leicester, Nottingham and Birmingham within short distances of the show. We were aware that there was no major show in the Midlands and we hope this annual event will become the one.

We are overjoyed with the response we have had so far with near 100 vehicles already booked in! There is a vast range from tanks like the Valentine DD owned by John Pearson and T55, T34, M18 Hellcat, CVR(T) from Scorpions, Sabres, Samsons and Samaritans. FV432/8 Abbot spgs to a wide range of heavy vehicles Leyland Hippo from the Chairman of the Club! Foden FH70 Limber, Scammells S26, Crusaders, Pioneers, Explorers and Constructor and many WW11 vehicles from Ward la France to Jeeps and a tilly.

Arrivals are from the thursday at noon (23rd) and Saturday at noon Vehicle road runs will be held, to the Coventry Heritage Centre and also the Airport Museum (where the Vulcan Bomber resides) We also have a real Harrier Jump Jet on static display, movie cinema, a wide selection of stall holders with militaria and parts, a re-enactors battle is planned and car crushing!

This show is being organised by enthusiasts for the enthusiasts so come and have a good time with no restrictions on entry and departure times!
