  2. I am sure the idea of electric fans has been tried but can you think of any lorry with electric fans? EM

I think the best was is to keep her original rad and fan setup and make them turn a little faster maybe , the best is just to try see how we go a smaller pully is no problem. But any ideas will be looked at. As fo the brakes i am going to look at air over hyd, as the malay saladins used saracen drums and had air packs off ivecos the same way. if i have a pas pump to do steering and a air pump might as well use it lol......

When i put the cummins in my old stalwart i used the daf pas pump and it made the steering lighter as the pump works at a slightly higher pressure.

  4. YE i know the one

I put the engine in. i swoped it for the guys bedford mj recovery. its a 5.9 6b 180bhp pulls well 555ftlb torque the engine had come from a crasher truck a daf 55 only 12000km.i used the stolly clutch plate and the daf flywheel and cover plate witch has twice the grip of the clutch a stolly used.daf thrush bearing as well . truck is well worth it if i was in the market i would buy it.i did 3/400mile in it but i needede a crane thats the only reason i sold it.it had new brake pads, handbrakebands, starter ,alt, recon box, and it is only 7300kg so can be driven on a car ticket .I PUT IT ON A WEIGH BRIDGE

  5. Hi all

Madcow is not me she is my partner but we use the same handle posting . right got that sorted. At the moment i an restoreing a saladin pics on site, More relivent to this thread .

I am the plonker who bought rex cadmans dead cenurion, i was hopeing to get it all sorted for this year but as i didnt take it that means its not done. My scammell took time and the year just went somewhere ! I am going to finish the saladin by xmass hopefully and then its the cent. I have to give rex the engine back for his comet so i am going to diesel it still useing the original box .I am not so sure about the clutch i may use the clutch on the diesel engine by keeping the bellhousing and make a prop from the box stright into the clutchplate and into the spigot. i am in need of a few bits bazooker plates off the side a piece of tin work with a support a full set of periscopes.

The last pic is how i want it to look lol!

  6. I may be able to shed some light on the coverd S26. A work mate used to be in the enginers and in 87 were issued with 3 6X6 S26s coverd with a drilling rig inside.I belive they were used for drilling for water only.

I am AFTER A drops if anyone knows of one.to go with the 6x6.

The 350 eagle is a massive improvement over the 305, the power is more mid range 1200 to 1700 rpm no need to rev the be jesus out of it.

from beltring the other week we had the 6x6 with a fox fv701 (5ton)in the back of it ,and the dumb axle towing frame (3.3ton)with our daf gs(6.4ton) on tow with a mk4 ferret (4ton)in the back of that. So all in all near 15ton pulled very well. the reason why we towed the daf the prop uj went u/s.

  7. are you sure you didnt get in the boiling vessel? agood bit of steering john sorry the pas was not working i can not understand why??? lol thanks to you and the grumpy and mili power.........

The tank musem say this saladin was first used in aden 1967. as long as its the one

  9. Good luck to your project. Gun is a little oversized - 155mm - isn´t it ? ;-)

I have to pull the turret of my saladin too, because I want to rebuild my gearbox. As you told - seems it is not a very difficult work?

Hey be thankfull at least u have a gearbox to rebuild!!! You can get the turret off in about 1 hour :) an air gun and compressor and a crane and a good pair of grips to undo the connections under the turret basket. The contrarotating electrical box under the basket is not bolted down at all, it sits between metal guides welded to the hull. You cannot get it wrong.
