  1. Hi, I was interested in a few of the vehicles that were in the Caen auction last Saturday. I am wondering if anyone knows of or can reccomend a transport company that could move a gmc cckw from France? I would like to do it myself but can't find a hire company that covers european travel! Thanks, Steve
  2. Can anyone recommend where to buy a good quality paint then? Thanks
  3. Thanks for the reply, I think its basically -anything goes!
  4. Hello all, Its time for me to repaint my 1987 110 hardtop again. Its currently nato green and matt black camouflage colour, with no markings except the union flags on front and rear wings. My son would love to have it painted in gulf war colours. While serving in the Royal Air Force, I spent a while as part of UKMAMS at RAF Lyneham and I thought of adding MAMS insignia. Would 'sand' colour paint be all I need? I realise a lot of vehicles were hastily painted before departure, or even during the voyage, but I want to paint it properly. Any help or information would be much appreciated, thankyou. Also, I'm desperately looking for a Land Rover 101 project. Does anyone know of one? Thanks Steve
  5. Hi, and thanks for the replies. I've tried the 'FOI' route to no avail. That's why I was wondering about getting in touch with Deepcut Barracks. My Land Rover is a 'CL' model, so maybe it has no record? Steve
  6. Hello all, Can someone point me in the right direction to trace the history of my Land Rover 110. I have read that I can contact Deepcut. Am I right in thinking this is where the records are kept? Thanks, Steve
  7. Well, thank you for the wlecome! I've never owned a lightweight before- I did look at buying one a long time ago, and I also used to visit the Lightweight centre when it still existed. My ultimate Land Rover would be a FC 101, but the prices are a little high for my liking at the moment! I did own a very nice tax exempt Bedford MK 4 tonner a few years ago- but I was in the process of moving back to the UK from France and couldn't afford the transport to get it back here so it was sold- oh how I'd love another one- I used to work on them while serving as an MT mechanic in the RAF. I'd use any excuse to take one for a drive! sadly, all the series 3's, and lightweights and 101's had gone by the time I served. But, we did have some nice 110's, 130's, TACR 2's, and Discoverys to play with! And, here are some photos of my 110. I still have lots to do, but the main thing is that its on the road and ready to use. Regards Steve
  8. Thansk for the replies- I did wonder if it might have been where the vehicle was first, but had not heard of it before. The photos of the derelict buildings are great, though wouldn't they look good if it showed the place while 'in service'? as well- with all the vehicles! Steve
  9. Hi everyone! I've just joined and would like to say hello! I've got a Land Rover 110, ex MOD, but civilian spec. I started my restoring and showing with Land Rovers about 15 years ago, have moved onto fire engines, and lorries, and have gone full circle back to good old Landies!! Its great to have a vehicle I can get parts for easily, and it fits on my driveway so I don't have to pay storage costs, and is relatively economical. Regards Steve
  10. Hi everyone, I'm new to HMVF, and this is my first post! I've just received a reply from the RLC museum with a copy of my Land Rover's equipment card. I'm still none the wiser as to where my vehicle was used. The card has two entries on it, the first being 'HILTON 033425/015' and the second is the date and place it was sold on from the MOD- BCA Bridgwater. The only thing is, what does Hilton refer to? My Land Rover is a civilian spec 110 with a military reg number. I assume it was used as a station/base 'run around' as a gs vehicle - I served in the RAF and all stations had 'civvy spec' Land Rovers. Just wondering if anyone can shed any light for me! Thanks Steve
