  1. hi, in response to the previous letter the hercules engine revved at a maximum of 1600 which at normal road speed ie 23 miles an hour gave an output of 201 bhp, the army introduced in the fifties the rolls royce c6 143 series direct injection engine which pushed the road speed up to 29 miles an hour but kept the same amount of torque for the differentials, as was quoted quite rightly by the previous letter be happy to plod along at 23 miles an hour and enjoy it, all the best tony g.

My Rolls engined T is still happy at 29mph, even after all these years.

If speed over a long distance is required then i look for a low-loader.

The convoy events i`ve done in Suffolk, they stick me in front so everyone does 29mph, also if the T fits through the gap then everyone else does too!

  2. fantastic pictures Nige, i don`t suppose you have another one of the Diamond T showing its serial numbers.

One day a picture like the ones you posted will feature a vehicle that someone on hmvf now owns.

I`d love to find one of my T,

The hard cab, winch controls in the cab and what looks like the small cutout over the front tow hook got my hopes up for a minute. who knows?

  3. A few years ago I looked up Diamond T's factory address on google earth and went into street view. unfortunatly all I could see at the time was waste ground :( You could try that yourself incase I was looking at the wrong place.

    Already tried that, Steve.

If i was at the correct location, the funfair was in town on the waste ground you saw.

I`m not expecting a fully interactive visitor centre but surely there must be something noting the company`s achievement.

  4. I did my Cpc modules last year with a couple of mates

They both received their little cards within a couple of weeks of completing the last module.

    Not me though.

The CPC card is administered by DSA not DVLA and because i still have a paper license not a photocard, they won`t give me the card.

They have my digital photo on my tacho card which also shows my driver number.

Why should i pay £38.00 to have a photocard driving license which is only valid for 10 years when the old paper one has done me proud for 25 years.

Its just more hassle on top of an irrelevant course.

  5. Crazy isn`t it.

I can carry 10tons of concrete in the back of the T and call it ballast, to aid traction.

If i carry something more interesting but ultimately less useful than the said concrete it becomes laden.

My plan was a flat trailer with a living box on the front and a land rover on the back, so from the inputs in this thread it would appear as i thought that it would need testing. i just wondered if there were any "exemptions" from this.

Given the cost of the trailer, the fact that it may need some work for the test and that it would only be used for shows, not hire and reward, it would probably be cheaper to get someone to drive the land rover and leave the living van on its present trailer.

Incidentally my present insurance does cover the living van as they consider it to be used unladen.

It`s only on an arrows 1 3/4 tonne trailer anyway.

I haven`t got anything against Mot/vosa testing but whereas testers used to be fair to the old vehicles and cut us a bit of slack now they seem computer controlled and can`t differentiate between a hobby vehicle and a daily haulage vehicle and i know of some people who struggle to get a vehicle which they know is safe in their hands, through the test.

  6. Some one is selling a picture of my Diamond T 981 on ebay.

He claims that as he took the photo, he has the copyrights.

As the truck legally belongs to me and the photo was taken without my knowledge or consent, what are my rights?

Does the photographer have any rights?

Incidentally if anybody should want a picture of my truck all they need to do is ask and i can email them loads of piccies for free.
