Nice truck!
When I bought a V8 Landy several years ago, the exhaust broke on the motorway on the way home, so the last 50 miles was done 'unsilenced', which was an experience... I shudder to imagine what the neighbours thought when I arrived!

Hi, I really enjoyed the show, I thought there was an excellent cross-section of vehicles there, with a definite emphasis on British stuff, which is always nice to see. A good selection of artillery pieces, too, which makes a bit of a change.
Highlights for me were (obviously) the Cromwell, which sounds wonderful, but the little Uni. Carrier also put in a good show in the arena (as did everything, to be fair), and the 'Russkis' at the top corner with their AT guns in the hedge was very well executed.
I took a ton of photos, although I haven't had chance to sort through them yet, but I did manage to 'fettle' a handful just to give a feel of the day:

Looks to be Pig skin, could be cavalary straps for saddle bags.
Not something I'm familiar with, I must admit Tony, do you know if there are any pics of them online anywhere?

Hi, I've just acquired these two leather straps and wondered if anyone had any ideas what they might have been for.
One has the maker's mark 'B.H.G.' for Barrow, Hepburn & Gale Ltd. and is dated 1943 (the other is unmarked) and they are made from the same type of leather used for the Pattern 1939 Infantry Equipment (the pointed ends are also the same size and profile as the haversack straps and the utility pouch yokes), although they are stitched throughout rather than rivetted as with the P39 I.E.
They are nominally twelve inches long and two inches wide, with a two-inch gated 3-bar Twigg buckle and two-and-a-quarter inch loop/fairlead at one end.
There's no mention of anything similar on Karkee Web, so I wondered if they might be some sort of tie-down strap associated with a vehicle?
Any ideas or suggestions will be gratefully received,
Kevin

That's a SERIOUSLY good looking truck! :wow:

I just read that myself - all very intriguing!
The could make it into a film: 'Sherlock Holmes & The Mystery of The Missing Machine-gun Man'

Well I must be setting a trend....the number of Loyd Carrier restoration projects in England has gone up to four including mine, with one brought at auction from the Victory museum also coming to the UK as far as I'm aware that puts it up to five! I have been searching for parts the last 3 years and haven't come up with much.....some people have all the luck :embarrassed:
But when you consider the relative starting points, Alastair, your sense of satisfaction when you finish yours will be immense

I really enjoyed visiting last year, in spite of the weather, but it sounds like it's going to be a cracker this time around

Here's one with its roof up, as seen at a show a couple of years ago:
Cheers,

Double declutching in those heels will be a bugger, though...

Nah - bit o' gobbo & it'll be as right as rain...

Your right about the film though, I liked it so much I bought the tank.

Hi Kevin
Bit of an aside...but I have just purchased The Black Bull by Patrick Delaforce, bargain at £7.99 from the discount bookshop - looking forward to a good read.
Cheers
Timbo
Bloody good book, Timbo - left an impression on me, obviously...

Yes photo was taken in the 30s and thanks for the unit ID. I have just bought 20 original photos of this unit / tank. Tank numbers reg in the other photos MT 9621 & MT 9625. One tank has the name Crusader on it.

Hello Keith, there's quite a good page with a bit of history, here:

I have rather a soft spot for the old Vickers Mediums for some bizarre reason!

Probably 6 RTC in Egypt in the '30s, if the asbestos panels on the tank & the sparse vegetation are anything to go by...

What a brilliant photo, but like Tony says, can you imagine what it was like inside the bloody things out there?!

Welcome from an equally wet mid-Lincs :-)

Absolutely lovely - one of my all-time favourite vehicles. Congratulations on a superb restoration!

hello everyone my name is Stuart and sadly i dont own a green vehicle yet but have driven plenty during my stint as a driver in the RCT. My dream is to own one or all of the following a ww2 bedford MW, AEC Matador, bedford QL and a Leyland Martian. I have big dreams and a small bank ballance, if only someone from Zimbabwe would e-mail me so i could send them my bank details:D. Hopefully i will realise my dream fairly soon before i get too old. I will post some pics of vehicles i came across in my travels ( when i scan them into my comp ).Iam currentley organising a vehicle rally for a 40's event in the village this year and have over 20 old cars and bikes coming but military vehicles are a bit thin on the ground because it sadly clashes with war and peace, if your local and want to come along just let me know, in the meantime i will dig out the old photos
Hello Stuart, is that going to be on the first day of the 1940s Weekend (Saturday 21st July)? I only live just down the road & was wondering which day to attend (spectator only, sadly - best I could offer would be a 1965 Riley One-Point-Five, but that's up on blocks at the moment, in any case...), although I'll probably end up popping in on both days, if I'm honest

Hi there everyone. My name is Paul and I am from North Lincolnshire, I own a Scorpion Tank which I am currently restoring. I also own a M151 jeep which is on the road.
Hello Paul, greetings from sunny (!?) mid-Lincs! Lovely vehicle, the Scorpion - I still vividly remember my first encounter with one at the age of about 4 or 5 on the Golden Mile in Blackpool of all places...

My old Dad - late of the Royal Lincolnshire & Royal Warwickshire Regiments - would've put that ratio considerably higher... :-D
