Going back to my Air Cadet Days, wasn't this known as a Dalton Computer?

That is the idea with toy trailers you buy from hHalfords...How would you work that on a trailer with a handbrake that is wound on with a handle operating a screw thread? Thin chain that are designed to break after applying a handbrake, don't fit in with the real world of MIlitary tackle.
I see what you mean. I asked as I was puzzled from what I read in towing regs on a website that I read. A screw opertated brake would be hard to apply from this method. Thank you for enlightening me.
My bold,I would definately prefer "the towed load catching me up" and ramming me up the arrse and stopping rather than shooting off to one side and running over a Mother and her 3 kids while walking down the pavement.
Thats the whole point of safetly tackle when towing vehicle casualties behind a wrecker, should it become detached then it rams you up the rear and stops.
Yes, I can understand that, I didn't understand how the brakes worked (see above).
Many thanks

Now I may be completely wrong here, but I thought the breakaway arrangement was supposed to do just that. i.e. Apply the handbrake on the towed vehicle and then break.
- An emergency breakaway cable must be fitted to the parking brake linkage and the other end clipped or fixed round some fixture on the towing vehicle so that, in the event of the trailer becoming detached from the towing vehicle, the cable will apply the parking brake automatically, before snapping itself. It is not recommended to loop the cable round the towball. (But do so if there is no alternative attachment point.) It is a separate offence not to use the breakaway cable provided.
I can see the point of the strops and chains, but I would be worried about the towed load catching me up if this was the case.
I'm interested as I'm a Arrows Trailer owner and have pondered over this. I got stopped last year on the M5 in one of the big round ups they had for illegal vehicles. No comment was made about the lack of a breakaway cable, but it did get me twitching a bit. I didn't fancy my Land Rover and Trailer joining the car park full of untaxed/un-insured vehicles they had already got.

Thanks all. I can't remember having had instructions with it. Even so it just says unscrew the needle assembly but it doesn't unscrew just goes round & round.
That's correct Clive. You must be trying to grip the needles. If worn, they can be changed by popping out that large circlip you mentioned earlier and replacing with a new bundle from Machine Mart.
I assume that I should be turning the red barrel & seperating it from the butt, rather than the needles in the inner collar from the grroved tube (#17).Clive, that's what you should be doing. It should unscrew easily enough.
The odd thing is in the diagram, item #17 which I take to be the red grooved tube has no hole in it, yet the bit that seems to stay (#15) has a hole at the side & I assme 4 in all. I don't know what the holes are meant to do.I think they are exhaust ports
ISTR when I first had it that the needle holder did tend to unscrew with use. Perhaps now the thread is either graunched or jammed with debris?Might be. It should unscrew easily enough though.
Mine fell to bits after 12 months, so yours is in better nick than mine. If you need the instructions you can email their Tech Dept and they'll email them back the next day, or same day if you do it early enough.

Also re RLC in 1992 - RLC was formed on 5 April 1993 - prev was RCT
MERLIN recognises the UIN and inputs the current unit title. So you're correct, but computers say 'no'.:coffee:

Gary,
Thanks for that info, they're going between the seats offset towards the passenger side. Fire Ext will go between seats as I've a slve socket on the seatbox.
Many thanks

Having been the lucky winner of a pair of SA80 rifle mounts, can anyone give me a clue as to where they are fitted in GS 90 (not a Wooluff)? My CES book is not modern enough to list them and still shows the SLR mounts. I presume they mount off centre between the seats and the fire extinguisher is mounted upright alongside, or is the extinguisher mounted on the centre panel between the seats? I have dexion racking on the bulkhead and it has a cut out on the horizontal, I presume to allow for the mounts.
The last lot I saw had the single mount in front of the passenger which was nice for re-arranging faces :-(.

Don't get one that was with the Marines. All that driving through the salty sea isn't good for a Rover chassis.
(See - wasn't I a good boy? No mention of webbed-feet anywhere in that post)
Gareth,
Mines still got the original chassis 17 years on. :pfrt:

One small question - -there's no log-on section on the front page any more???
To vote in the polls it seems we need to go to the forum, log-on there then return to the front page.....
I was about to mention that. It's splendid apart from that little niggle

Morning all, does anyone out there know about tents like the 9x9 and 12x12 but is there wider ones than a 12x12, I don't mean length as I know they can be added to, end to end to create any length you want, I am interested in wider ? ie from ground over the ridge and back to the ground on the other side.
Thanks
R3,
Have a look here. They're not cheap though

On the previous forum I got newest threads at the start and on opening the thread, the posts were listed from oldest through to the most recent. Now everything's back to front. I've tried the user cp fingy, but can't seem to get a consistent result. It's doing my head in:banghead:
Anyone any suggestions?

Just thanks to Jack & Joris for producing such a great site. I came back from PC'less leave and thought something drastic had happened to my PC when I couldn't find the site. I was over the moon when I received the e mail to say it was back on line.
Great work chaps

Hi guys. My uncle is looking to buy a 1942 WC51 which has spent its life in France. As a result it has not been previously registered in the UK. Can someone please tell me what is involved in registering a vehicle for the first time.
Many thanks.
Paul,
Has 'Uncle Mike' got the urge to get another vehicle now?

Thanks Sean, I'll have a look in EMLRA as well.

Tony,
Thanks for that link. Some good shots of the 109. How were the blinds attached to the vehicle? On my 90, they use turnbuckles and velcro, but it's not clear on those pics.

PS I think a few from ARRSE have just found your site judging by the guestbook :-(

Has anyone on here got any info on winterised Lightweights please? Apart from the Artic heater, did they have snow blinds fitted to the windows or any additional insulation? If they had blinds fitted, how were they secured and what were they made of?
Sooo many questions I know, but I cannot find any info on this subject.
Thanks

We'll let you park next to pop larkin's HiLux at Buckfastleigh if you're coming. It won't look out of place then :-D

Wish I'd have known, I'd have popped over and given you a hand.
I knew they'd moved to Kingsbury. I haven't had chance to try out the new place yet. The 432 pulled the front bumper off my mates Land Rover. Oh how we laughed :-D

I may be able to find something. I'm not sure about how detailed they are though, but it may be a start. All I've got to do is find my manuals from the 80's.
