Another break from the turret/fighting compartment, time to fix the sound (exhaust & silencer) so not deafening the whole surroundings everytime we start the engine. Since the old brackets had deteriorated completely I had bought new ones at grenmachinesurplus. Fairly easy to replace and then mount self-adhesive heat shield found at local car parts store. The new silencer I bought through a member of this forum

Then on to a new round inthe fighting compartment, first layer of white on walls and floor, then mounting the turret floor and adjusting all contact points both sidewise and heigh. With this in place, it’sready for a final layer of white and fixing details before mounting all new parts and cords

After many hours inside the heat of the "Turret Sauna" I took a brake by refreshing some items, most of which were brown of rust. Some before & after:

Being satisifed with the exterior for now and with working floor mounts, the work continued with the fighting compartment: Once cleaned ( 4 x times fully flushed, brushing with both normal and steel brushes & degreaser- in Scandinavia we had 33-35 degrees C these days so a big Puhh), the floor got a layer of grey metallic base color. Wet-vacuum cleaner is a must.

During the winter we had started with removing the turret floor bearings and their mount which were rusted completly solid after been under water for some time. After cleaning, WD -40, freeze rust solvent etc, they were still unmovable. 8 month in a Diesel bath, however has now released 4 out of 5 (the 6th in the picture was a working replacement i got with the procject), being ok for refitting after getting new side bearings

With the lower hull painted and a ”proper” 40mm outer dia plumber pipe as barrel, she is starting to get the looks right. Until I get it threaded and mount the real flash hider, a small canvas bag filled with rolled magazines is a god substitute ”barrel end ”

This summer started with mounting periscopes and night sight cover

During winter, some time was spend to clean and paint the periscopes. As seen on this one, most rubbet gaskers were gone but by making a paper profile it was fairly easy to make new ones with a sharp knife and rubber mat sold per meter in a normal hardware store. Think I bought 1.5mm. Screws were found at greenmachinesurplus.

Getting hold of a Night sight cover is practically impossible. Thank heaven there is a guy at this forum who made a sturdy replica out of fibreglass. Great job at a fair price. Dont know if he do more of them ( but if so, you can just post below J!)

Arrived, and ready for next phase: Pressure clean, scrubbing with brushes and de-greaser together with some abraiding prepares for ne initial layer of paint. Paint does magic and is a morale booster for getting friends to help out, and attacking more boring stuff, me thinks. In the end, a good day's work. Can only recommend the paint from Marcus Gleen. Transport from seller

I def see your point, I was in the market for a Sabre project and this one already had the turret replaced so half way in transition so to say. After a thorough cleaning the turret was ready for a layer of paint- dramatical difference:)

A fighting compartment as a total rust hole with unmovable turret floor due to bearings completely rust-solid. And this is after hrs of S's clean up.

Huge work was done, esp in engine bay area, with still loads to be done in fighting compartment, and exterior wise. Another member of this forum ( P ) helped out with documenting S work before I took over.

S started with getting components, stripping and re-painting the engine area and installing a take-out engine to get it up and running

Here is coming a project that started a couple of years ago with a young Englishman (S) buying an ex Belgian Scorpion wreck from a dealer (T) . He proceeded with getting a Sabre turret, engine and other stuff and started to work. With engine & gearbox installed he sold it to me and I have continued the work, initially focusing in sourcing bins and the parts. To not become a long, slooow thread the ends half way through, I waited with publish until I am now nearer completion. So this will be a speeded up thread with initial recaps but on the other side, you will see a ready vehicle in the end , faster than it took. Here is the starting point:

I know that a EU pallet with , max 1000kg is on GBP 260 ex vat - ramp or fork lift must be arranged by receiver/customer though. I can ask a freighter and confirm on Monday - it varies/depends on your postal code, so I need that to get a fixed quote . PM me. BR Richard

Cvrt j60, gasoline engine on pallet like how they come reconditioned from demob. Been standing in garage for couple of years and I understand that I wont be needing it. GBP 450 - oh, located in Sweden, but can arrange freight.

Thanks for replies, and I understand it could be an issue - (but I have not heard of, nor done this with my other classic civvy vehicles before, mind they´ve not been Jaguars ) - so; - Is this something you other CVRT owners do as a rule if its been standing a winter or a more? (I take it Grasshopper didn´t :)) If many diff replies , this could be valuable for many other new CVRT owners to read

Hi, A civilian ex Jaguar mechanic saw my CVRT Sabre and said that: "After standing more than 6 months the J60 engine should be opened & manually turned to check that all valves moved freely before start. Esp the last valve, could easily get stuck. This could be solved with some oil before start but if not adressed before starting, the engine could be hurt." Is this also relevant with the military, CVRT J60s or do You just start it up straight/normal after winter storage? ( Fresh batteries, check fluids etc) PLS any comments, anyone?
