  1. You could try contacting Rex Ward he knows everything DUKW.

Hi, thanks for that, i have been in touch with Rex and depending on the number prefex he may be able to help. I had wondered if there was such a thing as a British/Nato parts book for the Gmc in use post war.

You know what it's like, you have to keep looking for spares for these trucks, so you follow up every lead no matter how small a quantity of parts.

    Thanks, regards David.

  2. I wonder if any of you can help. A friend told me he knows about some parts which may be for a cckw but the parts are british marked. Does anybody know of a website to convert the part numbers back to the "G" numbers ? Thankyou, regards David.

  3. Hi Jon, this is what i use for wheel changing etc : 3 ton trolley jack, bottle jack, wheel brace, shock wrench, wheel chocks, 12 x 12 timber and assorted smaller blocks. All the smaller items are kept in the truck, the 12 x 12s and the trolley jack live at home. Hope this helps, enjoy your new truck, regards David.

  4. Good morning everybody, i wonder if any of you could give me a rough guide price for these 2 No 19 sets please. I have had 1 set since the early 80s and the second was bought in the late 80s or early 90s. Both appear to be complete and were believed working at the time of purchase. I had planned owning a British vehicle to mount one of them in but i am now at the stage where i am reducing the number of vehicles so i doubt i will use them. Thankyou, regards David.

  5. Hi Barry, myself and a friend are traveling from Inverness to Houffalize for the 22nd Winter Rally. I have been twice before, once by jeep (2007) and the second trip by dodge ambulance (2008). Both trips were via the Rosyth - Zeebrugge ferry. This ferry is now only taking containerised freight which is a real pain. It was a round trip of approx 700mls, it will now be a return trip of approx 1800mls. Luckily i have a good friend in Holland who will lend me his jeep for the Rally. That saves a lot of trailer time and worry about road conditions. Hope to see you there, what are you taking ? Regards David.

  6. Hi R Cubed, i have one of the type you need, i also have one the same but without studs. If either of these are of any use you are welcome to them as i have no use for them. I have a full set of the type with studs. PM or phone me to arrange collection, regards David 01463 751222.

  7. I believe they are post war Norwegian. I got 3 in the storage lockers of a Dodge WC54 i bought a few years back. They came in hesian sacks with a description in Norwegian. I also got a mixed load with the first jimmy i bought in 1999. It was also ex Norway. The Dodge 9.00 x 16 chains fit the Gmc 7.50 x 20 tyres. The picture showing 2 tyres with chains has a Dodge chain on the left and a Gmc chain on the right. If anybody has any i would be interested in buying/tradeing 3 of the sets for duals as i only have the 1 set. It's a real pain to fit a chain to each tyre. Hope this helps, regards David.

  9. Hi all,

does anyone have any coloured photos of the dash board on an open cab GMC?

    Regards

    Jack

Hi Jack, i see that you haven't had any replies, is it just the dash layout that you need, can i help ? Regards David.

  10. Hi David Robertson, thanks for uploading the pictures of your GMC, have to admit yours looks very nice. I believe that there is another Airportable tipper in this country ( but fitted with a closed cab) on milweb, but apart from that one i don't know of any others.

Am I right in thinking your GMC was an ex Dutch vehicle? Also what was the wiring like in your cab? As ours looks like a "birds nest"(!). What is the serial number of your truck?

    Jack

Hi Jack, i have known about the hard cab Airborne Tipper for a couple of years. There maybe a couple more in the UK. Yes my truck is ex Dutch Army, it was then in the Johan Dieffenbach collection for a number of years, then in the hands of another collector in Belgium, then to me. Being ex Dutch it has the same wiring as yours i imagine, extra fuses below dash on drivers side and a different lighting system from standard. If you need a copy of the Dutch wiring diagram PM me as i have one being sent over from a friend in Holland. On my truck i plan to leave the wiring as it is for the moment, that includes leaving the indicators on the brushguard, i see you have removed them from your truck if you do not plan to use them would you like to sell them ? I had to rob one of the indicators from a NEKAF Jeep for my truck and need to replace it, regards David.

  11. Gents, I do appreciate your thoughts on this jeep and the points you are picking will be sent to the seller to see what he says.

Aesthetically it looks exactly how I'd picture my own jeep but I do need to step back and think hard on whether this is the one...even with it's faults.

Hi, that slat grill looks good, i bought a '45 ford gpw on ebay USA in the summer of 2008. I bought it on photo's and several questions from the seller. It was complete but needing a rebuilt or replacement engine and the transmisson gaskets renewed plus all the little items to get it road legal in this country. I was happy with my buy although all the little items take much longer than you think. I took this jeep to Normandy 2009. Anyway, back to the point: i used a company called Rinkens for collection and delivery and dealt with their agents in this country ( Kingstown Shipping ) for payment. Cost was about £1900 inc VAT @ 5%. I can recommend the shippers. Jeep arrived at Chatam Docks 11th November. There followed a long drive from Inverness and back with Disco' and trailer. Hope this has been of some help, good luck and enjoy your new toy, regards David.

  12. Not dead, but I agree that things have been dormant for a while, so high time for an update!

Ed Abbott, my partner Suzanne and myself organise this even out of passion, ambition and the desire to want to do it. Only if we feel these three key ingredients will the event work - and exceed everyones expectations, including our own. Home life has been pretty hectic since the last Bolero in 2007, with plenty to keep us diverted from doing another one - A new baby, building a new house, becoming a director of the business that I run etc etc, you simply cannot do it all and if I don't have enough free time to commit to putting together an event, then I won't do a half hearted effort either!

I still can't quite believe that it was June 2007 that we did the last one - It only seems like last year. However, both Ed and I are responsible for the planning, running and general organisation of the Route to Victory convoys in Wiltshire in May this year. We also did the same for the 2008 Route to Victory. Those loyal followers who attend our convoy's 'country wide' will know how much fun the 'Route to Victory' convoy weekends are and will appreciate that we simply cannot do both in a year - It is just too much.

Therefore, the plan as far as i see it is to do RTV one year and Operation Bolero the next, which will mean we are due for a Bolero in 2011. The event takes about a year to put together and as you can see from all the comments on this thread, people are eager for it to run again and people have been very constructive in their comments on what they want from the event.

So to conclude, yes we still plan to do the event again. For those wanting Bolero more central in the Country be sure to book into Route to Victory this May Bank Holiday weekend which is looking to be another corker and for those who prefer to keep their bar tread in East Anglia it will be Bolero 2011, somewhere in Eight Air Force territory!

Not forgetting Jack's exciting new venture in deepest Dorset of course in June this year which seems to be attracting a great deal of interest as well - After all, he did learnt from the best!!

Hi Clive, nothing seems to have been posted on the 2011 event for a while now, is it still live ? Regards David Robertson

  13. Hi Mullvane, very pleased to see pictures of your jimmy. I have one exactly the same model and similar condition up here in Inverness. I have enclosed some pic's of it's arrival from Belgium to Edinburgh Dec '09. Also some photo's after a little work, tyres, canvas, electrics, transferbox, brakes etc. Still lots to do. Do you know of any other Airborne Tippers in the U.K. ? Regards David Robertson.
