Hi
This is quite a complicated story so here goes:
Whilst attending the 2010 lincolnshire steam rally i had the fortune to meet a very interesting owner of a 1945 Daimler Armoured car 253 XUB, He may well be a member of this site so my apologies if i am covering old ground.
The vehicle has an interesting past, it was rescued by a friend of the current owner from falling into the sea at blackgang chine on the isle of wight, for what ever reason the rescuer was unable to restore it which is where the current owner stepped in.
It had covered only a couple of hundred miles when it hit something solid which stopped it dead and snapped the crank, which is why it ended up half filled with concrete and left as a kids climbing frame at blackgang chine.
When i was told this i suddenly realised that i had actually played on it as a child during a family holiday on the isle, when i told the owner this he was excited as he has no photographs of the vehicle during its life on the isle and as my father is a keen photographer i was sure there would be a couple of snaps of it, unfortunately as yet my parents have been unable to locate any photos of the holiday at all.
This is where you come in, during a google search looking for photos i stumbled upon a post on this site where members state there first contact with MV's and one such post mentioned that they had played on "the ferret thing" on the isle of wight .
So if any of you have any old photos of any of the vehicles that were left on the isle of wight can you please let me know and i will endeavour to put you in contact with the owner.
Thanks in advance
