  1. Got to concur with what Ian, Jack and Tim have said. A great weekend with the Slat behaving beautifully. I met a load of great people over the weekend and had the pleasure of having five of the cast on the jeep at the same time with Shane 'Doc Roe' Taylor behind the wheel. I even gave 'Roland' a lift too.It was also great to lead the convoy on the Sunday with the DR's keeping the roads safe.I've got to say merci to the French contingent which came over for the weekend. Extremely friendly bunch who got me involved when they got suited up in their parachutes on the Saturday. Not only that but they gave myself and Tony beer and cider to take home on the Sunday too.I've literally moved house just prior to the weekend and have no internet so I can't upload any photographs but I will in about two weeks.Thanks to all involved and it was a pleasure to give Jack, Ian and Alanis a spin in the jeep over the weekend.Neil.

  2. When I bought my Slat Grill, the horn that was fitted was a KEM horn. It has a brass data plate with its name. I've done a google search but I didn't find any info about KEM.

     

    Has anybody heard of them and what type of vehicles would have them fitted? I could really do with more info about these horns as I want to sell it.

  3. Reviving my thread as after nearly two months, I now have the Jeep in my posession. It's a thing of beauty with only minor issues e.g. a number of bolts not fitted, speedo not working and jumping out of 2nd.

     

    I fixed the speedo problem as I found that the cable had been fitted the wrong way round so the square drive was falling out of the speedo. I now have the problem of the speedo oscillating wildly. Cable looks good with no kinks and the square drives looks fine so I'm guessing it's the speedo.

  4. First time at Malvern. Didn't find much for the Slat apart from single arm wiper assemblys but did make some jeep contacts. I was very tempted in parting some cash for a Thompson though and I'm glad there wasn't many M1919 .30 cals there as it could have been an expensive day.

     

    I spent the morning in a daze as I'd finished a 12hr night shift at 0730 and got the missus to drive me there. Enjoyed myself though.

  6. Thanks David. I decided to go for it in the end. The Jeep is currently heading to Houston ready for its little trip across the pond. I've also gone with Kingstown and they've been very helpful.

     

    The seller has been great too. Always in contact with updates and even sent a few videos of him driving it and getting it ready for delivery.

  7. It'll my first dig out. I'll be after the following items for my new Jan '42 Slat Grill:-

     

    Original or repro Slat Grill speedo

    Wingnuts for windshield

    Filterette

    Horn vibration bracket

    Gear stick retaining rings

    Radiator felt

    Rear scalloped axles

    x2 Single arm wipers

     

    Chances of finding any of these items?

  8. It looks like the jeep I'll be purchasing has a pedestal mount. So in the near future, I'd like to get a .30 cal for the it. I'd prefer an imitation as they're cheaper than a deac but this VCR act states I need to be a member of a reenactment group if I have an imitation firearm.

     

    So, are there any MV clubs out there which qualify? Or should I just spend the extra cash and go for a de-ac?

  9. Gents, thanks very much for your input on my thread. I'm in need of your opinions again please.

     

    I have the opportunity to buy a '42 Slat Grille 111627. It has a few issues e.g. wrong engine (a 1945 example apparently) but I want some advice on whether it looks good or not.

    As to the whole business of being wartime authentic. After reading about Jeeps during the war where they would be repaired using whichever parts they could find e.g. Ford or Willys, I'm kind of classing my needs as a Jeep which is authentic to that period or which has repro parts that looks the same.

  11. In March I went out to Georgia, USA to photograph the 23rd FW 'Flying Tigers' who fly the A-10C Thunderbolt II. It was a pretty good week.:D

  12. I thought I'd contribute with something more productive than all the Jeep questions. I do a lot of aviation photography where a fair bit of it gets published. Two years ago I organised an air to air shoot of a Tiger Moth whilst on holiday in Australia. The Tiger Moth lives at Point Cook, Victoria and I photographed it over the Port Phillip bay/Melbourne suburbs whilst flying in a Yak-52.

  13. Continuing with my stupid questions. I've also read numerous reports now of Jeeps being stolen. What practical ways can you prevent this?

     

    Since I want to take my future Jeep to Normandy next year, it'll be parked in different areas whilst we visit museums, beaches etc. Should I whip off the distributor cap each time and the steering wheel?

  14. I watched two finish on Ebay in the past day.

     

    One was a '42 slat grille which looked gorgeous. I did put a cheeky bid on it but even though I was the highest bidder it never reached its reserve. There was only one other bidder and the final price at the end of the auction was $10,100. Surprising for a slat grille.

     

    The second was a '43 Willys which finished today and again never reached its reserve but I didn't bid on this one even though it looked lovely. Final price was $8,600.

     

    My biggest problem is that I don't know enough about jeeps at the moment to spot a dodgy one. Simple stuff like corrosion issues I can spot but it's the little things that could cost me is why I'm wary about bidding.
