Jason/Harry, the DPM covered 50s hoods........these were either made by or supplied by Silverman's as early as the 80s..........not the first one I have seen either............
Interesting - have not seen one before. So they took NOS hoods and put DPM waterproof material on them for general sale?

Picked this up recently more out of amusement than anything else!
It is a first issue 1952 pattern smock hood in Gabardine - reasonably uncommon in itself when compared to the more common sateen version that appeared 1953 onwards....
As you can see from the pics some enterprising individual has cut out the material from early DPM waterproofs and tried to make a waterproof, DPM hood! It is quite well done actually....

Early 60 Patt....earlier 53Patt smocks were fully lined.

Looks like a great day Steve! Not been to Goodwood but really do need to make the effort at some point soon...

Oliver - I think you have a c.1953 Belgian Para smock. Recognisable by the half zip design. This was replaced in 1956 by the more common full zip pattern.
Nice example. As a matter of curiosity I am not sure who does the repairs on these smock but on the couple of examples I have they have been extremely well repaired with a dense stitch that looks bullet proof!

Lots of background and debate on said item (and some general reflections on eBay ) in this thread:
-
Rear right arse pocket is present on the example I have show above.....
Yet another variation on an issue item!

I think I have one of each....but again my storage system has gone a bit haywire and I have no idea where they are :red:
-
Nice examples....I do have a soft spot for these pre-metric boonies...

I had thought Canadian perhaps but with no markings really tough to say...
-
No marks on the blue cap Steve.....
Must admit I do not have a clue on the second one either....:red:

I have a couple of others that I will dig out a post.
Shorter and with wool lining.
Would be great to see some pics....

Exposed buttons, or buttons at all, seems to be the nemesis of the 51 patt gear - it does then it doesn't then it does.....
In the photos I have posted above there seems to be, almost, a comical back and forth as to whether you need those bloody buttons or not! I guess in trials the feedback depended on how badly said soldier needed to go...

Super photos Steve and interestingly - looks like 49-53 was a period of rapid modificiation of combat issue. I do like the photo of the chap with the tag hanging off his webbing belt!!
