  1. No problem Wally of course I can wait, in your own time. Dave
  2. Thanks again wally, where do I locate or find the Chertsey files please?
  3. Thanks Wally The number I am interested in is 00 SP 77.
  4. Thanks for that Wally, I understand that the RLC Museum charge £30 for a search, do you know if the charge stands, even if they do not find what you are looking for?
  5. I am looking for information about a BSA WD B40 with the registration number 00 SP 77 which I have discovered was an Army registration number used for 'Special Projects' vehicles. These vehicles, I am led to believe, were tested and assesed at the MVEE (Military Experimental Engineering Establishment) Chertsey. Were vehicles with these 'SP' registration numbers issued with Key Cards and, if so, where would I find them? Dave
  6. Could be... Seems likely. Thanks.
  7. Hi I have a copy of an MT Vehicle Record Card RAF Form 524 and in the 'On Charge To' section it has an entry under 'Unit' that looks like 'MoD DS' - see below. Anyone have any idea what this is please? Could it be anything to do with the vehicle's disposal as it is the last entry on the card?
  8. A bit more searching came up with a Lucas part number - Lucas L628. Also a photo (bit small) showing the chrome back which, I believe, lives under the black rubber cover. Thanks for the heads up on that one Barry, another problem solved!
  9. Just Googled Ariel Leader images and it certainly looks the same, but without the black rubber backing. Thank you.
  10. Hi, Can anyone identify the indicators shown in the photo below? Although shown fitted to an RAF Police BSA B40 motorcycle they could be from any vehicle. Any ideas? Cheers, Dave.
  11. Hi I am looking for a Blue Lamp that fits into the centre of the Screen of an Avon 'Avonaire' Police fairing, I think it is a Lucas part. The fairing is for an RAF Police BSA WD B40. Can anyone help please? Dave
  12. Hi I am researching the BSA B40 350cc motorcycles as used by the RAF during the 1960s and 1970s. These motorcycles were officially described as Police Escort Motorcycles and were more commonly used by the RAF Police, where they were finished in RAF Blue/Grey and fitted with white Avon fairings. However, during my research I have discovered that they were also used by various other RAF Units, Squadrons and Sections for a variety of tasks. I am looking for any information on these particular motorcycles and especially photographs showing these RAF BSA B40 motorcycles in use by RAF personnel, both in the UK, Germany and further afield during this period. I am led to believe that they were also used by certain RAF Units, Squadrons or Sections without the fairing fitted and I am looking for evidence of this. Can anyone help please? Dave
  13. Hi Lex I have sent you and email, ignore the part about the WD Motorcycles Forum, that's me getting confused again! Dave
  14. Thanks for that, I'll give it a go. Dave
  15. Hello Ted Good to hear from you, hope you are feeling better. As you see, the research continues. My very best wishes Dave
  16. Firstly, many thanks ideed to Clive for the page provided, and to Steve and Sean for their information. Clive, do you have a scan of the Front Cover for the Ruddington 112 Sale Catalogue please? You kindly provided me with some other Ruddington info in the past and it would be nice to keep them in the same format. Thanks again to everyone who has helped. Dave
  17. Hi Steve Many thanks for that, great info, thank you. Cheers Dave
  18. Hi Steve Thanks for all this, it really helps. I help run the AFS matchless Motorcycles Register and I can confirm that the AFS Matchless BGJ registration numbers ran from 450 BGJ to 493 BGJ, so 436 BGJ must either be a typing error does not refer to an AFS Matchless. Many thanks for your help, I really appreciate it. In the meantime I will try to get hold of a copy of Duty Done. I would still like to get hold of copies/scans of the various Catalogues I am looking for, if anyone else on the Forum can help with this I would really appriceate it. Ruddington Sale No.112 (July 1971) Hereford Sale No.14 - (January 1970) Colchester Sale No.46 - (April 1970) Winchester Sale No.16 - (February 1971) Carlisle Auction No.62 - (October 1971) MoD Stirling Sale No.? - (February 1972) Just realised the Title of the post should be MoD rather than MoS  Thanks Dave
  19. Hi Steve Many thanks for that, I was advised that XYM636, XYM637, XYM640 and XYM641 might have been in RD112 but didn't know about the other three, thanks. However, can you confirm the number of 436 BGJ - could it be 463 BGJ? Do you have the Date of the RD112 Sale and the Lot Numbers for the machines please? Thanks for the offer to look for any more later, I'll wait to hear from you. Tried to find a copy of 'Duty Done' for myself but it is now sold out everywhere
  20. Hi Can anyone help please? I am looking for the following MoD Sales Catalogues: Ruddington Sale No.112 (July 1971) Hereford Sale No.14 - (January 1970) Colchester Sale No.46 - (April 1970) Winchester Sale No.16 - (February 1971) Carlisle Auction No.62 - (October 1971) MoD Stirling Sale No.? - (February 1972) I am looking for information on the sale of ex-AFS Matchless 350cc Motorcycles. I have already accounted for 344 of the motorcycles in various Ruddington Sales catalogues (kindly provided by a member of the Forum) but I have been advised that more of these AFS motorcycles have been included in the above sales. Any information on these Sales would be very helpful. Many Thanks Dave
  21. I am following up some research that indicates that a number of ex-AFS Matchless G3 (1960/61 vintage) motorcycles were sold to the Dutch Army in the late 1960s/early 1970s, rather than being sold through the Ministry of Supply auctions. I have traced two ex-AFS Matchless motorcycles to Dutch owners who tell me that they were led to believe that they were ex-Dutch Army when they bought them but so far they have no proof of this. Does anyone have any information on this subject please? Thanks Dave
  22. Hi Clive Thanks for that, my guess also was they may have been used as Dispatch Bikes for document transfer etc. between establishments as you say. Seems feasable, given the work the MoA was engaged in. Thanks Dave
  23. Thanks for that, I'm still learning! So, could it's responsibilities have also extended to the Auxiliary Fire Service and Civil Defense organisations? And I wonder why was it ordering motorcycles?
  24. During some research on AFS Matchless motorcycles I came across an order in the Matchless factory records from the Ministry of Aviation for 12 Matchless motorcycles, the order was dated February 1960. I have to say I was not aware that the Air Ministry (or RAF ?) were issued with Matchless motorcycles of this period. However, as it was only 12 machines, maybe they were intended for Air Ministry Dispatch Rider use? Can anyone help with information on this one please?
