  1. I wonder if this will include the 3 QF 25 pounders setup normally behind Ferret Row now being fired from the arena each morning? I hope not as I get the best view of these firing since I camp 10 foot behind them :-D

  2. I see that Snoozebox the portable hotel (made from ISO containers by the look of it) will be at the Hop Farm music festival just before War & Peace, I wonder if they will remain on-site for our show :-D

  3. Finally have something to add. This was at the Laughton Spring Cuckoo Fayre steam and vintage vehicle show. One of the classic tractor owners decided to take his exhibit for a spin around the lake and found the gap between the Indians (Native Americans) :) tents and the pond edge a bit too tight :-D

While watching the recovery, we've never been surrounded by so many experts offering their views that the crane had no chance of lifting it.

    Attaching the lifting straps :-

  4. Just got my exhibitor pack today and the enclosed map shows all the big living history Re-enactment camps in the same places as last year. So does this mean it will be the same as previous years with, for instance, Kelly's Heroes battles in Big Monktons?

  5. Hello all, I wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction to connect up this CVRT helmet with intercom into a standard Clansman vehicle intercom. Obviously the connector is the wrong type for plugging into a pressel switch. Is my only option to cut off the current connector and wire on a clansman round 7 pin plug?

    Many thanks for any help.

  6. Hi all, I need to repair a heavy canvas sheet (I think it was once a lorry bed cover), it has a couple of large 12" slashes in which are too large for me to hand sew patches onto. I some spare bits of canvas to patch the rips I'm after a glue that I can slap on the patches (maybe 12" square) either side of the rip (top and bottom). I tried a glue from the local Homebase that claimed to do the job but after 24 hours cure just pulled apart too easy.

Can anyone recommend a glue that will adhere canvas to canvas?

    Thanks ,

    Ian

  7. I would imagine that if the re-enactors were moved to Medway they'd hardly get any foot traffic from the public, I doubt that many of the public venture much further than the Arena and the re-enactors in Little Monktons, perhaps a short stroll into Big Monktons.

  8. looks like a lot of military wasnt there this year due to new steward and a lot more white in their place

how did the gate guards get on(frontiersmen)

They were only at the public entry gate and the vehicle exit gate. Didn't really interact with them much, not quite sure who they are (brief look at their website is a bit vague on exactly how they fit in to the military scheme of things)

  9. The show is a nice mix of classic cars, motorbike, steamers and military vehicles. Oh and most importantly a CAMRA beer tent:-D

We managed to grab a gap in the rain showers to dash over to Ardingly showground (fortunetly only 7 miles from home). We were hoping to grab one of the prime spots in the military section but it was already full of caravans and one Para Bike on display :cool2:

The military section filled out a bit more on Friday with another Ferret, landrovers, Scammells and Jeeps. Then off to the beer tent and can't remember much more of Friday night.

Saturday saw the military section rows fill out with a great towed artilery peice and the always entertaining staic sherman tank engine, especially when he "gooses the throttle" :-D

Back at the beer tent on Sat night, a few of the local cruisers turned up with their "rides" for a few pints :-D

We were planning on running around the arena but they seem to always put the military section right at the end of the day and normally few members of the public around the arena area. This time though one of the larger steam engines managed to break it's rear axel and we instead got watch a great heavy vehicle recovery demonstration. They came up with some sort of dolly and used a classic tractor with a winch and ground anchor(sp?) to pull against.

All in all a very good show.

  10. Myself and Griff66 drove over for a looksee today, looked like pretty much most of Big Monktons and Outer Monktons pegged out with plots. Nothing at all in Medway Overflow. NLBA sure had an impressive area pegged out, wonder if Witham will pinch off an end section of it like last year?

Not too many actual vehicles yet, though spotted the OT-90 and a Stolly passing us on a low-loader as we left the site

  11. How about if you're going to stake-out/reserve a spot, put a placard stating expected arrivale date/time , then 24 hrs after arrivale date/time plot given to someone else. Perhaps the W&P field marshals should do something like this or run a reservation list?
