  1. His employer has seen it, as have several car hire firms. Problem being, data protection rules (computerised records) mean that they've erased them...

Guy is in serious danger of losing his job and I cannot believe the number of people in various forums who've had similar experiences.

  2. Dear Auntie HMVF,

I am just at the end of my tether. First my Saracen resolutely refused to start. Then my wife told me she was leaving and taking the kids, not only that she is making claims on my house and savings that will leave me destitute. I've ben so down that I've taken to drinking and my job is now in peril because I'm so seldom sober... Please help or I'm off to the canal.

    Sad Sarrycan Owner.

    Dear Sad Sarrycan Owner,

I'm so sorry to hear about all your troubles dearie, but these things happen, don't they?

Make yourself a good strong cup of tea, sit down and think about all the things you DO have, friends, health, freedom... Then you want to take a lump hammer and ping the starter motor one... Always dodgy on the B series... I take it the fuel lines are clear?, checked you plugs for fouling? what about the.....

    And so on.

    Auntie HMVF

  3. Guys,

Not at all MV relatd but some of you might have a bright idea.

Husband of someone I know online has had his licence stolen. Provisional book in 1988, Passed M/C test 1990, passed car test 1997. Licence was up[dated accordingly on each occasion.

When he applied for his replacement he was sent a provisional. DVLA deny any record of him having passed M/C test and although they acknowledge that he did pass his car test they deny that he ever return his pass certificate or that they ever issued him with a full licence.

He has ben warned that he is not legal to drive anything, except under provisioal conditions and all efforts, including those of the CAB have ben in vain as regards them shifting their position.

Any suggestions (that don't involve a visit to Swansea in a MBT)?

  4. No idea if anyone made it all the way over - but the story is told of a squaddie who went AWOL from BAOR and nicked a Stalwart to do it in - which kind of casts a question as they aren't road vehicles - and got halfway over from Holland before chickening out. Story says he got courtmartialled but not dishonourably discharged as Alvis requested his services as a test driver...........

To the best of my knowledge he escaped the whole thing relatively unscathed having been a model JNCO up to the point of his little 'escapade' for which there were apparently some very strong extenuating circumstances.

  5. I do actually like the Dodges.

And I'm not adverse to the idea, my main interest though is definately 'Cold War'.

My collection of non vehicle related items centres around NBC detection/protection and CD equipment.

So while I don't rule out WWII vehicles by any means (frankly, I find they garner more interest from the public and opportunities for display) I do have a bit of a leaning towards something a bit more recent.

Now, if anyone happens to know anything about the 101's fitted with IBIDS for Granby, I might even be tempted to extend my financial limit :-D :-D

  6. Latterly Motorola Securenet and the ubiquitous Astro Cougar systems were de rigeur. (I could be wrong but I believe that the version of 'Cougar used in NI is/was somwhat obtuse).

We were never in MOULD coverage.

Certain VHF allocations in use by military and Government agencies were unavailable in N.I due to the potential for interference from/to commercial and official comms. In the Republic which has different spectrum allocations.

  7. :-D

See, here's the problem, ask ten people get ten answers...

Guy in the pub last night almost sold me on the notion of a good example of a 110FFR and some radio kit.

Any particular reason why dodges are so popular hereabouts?
