If I had more time I would have removed axles ,engine etc but as they are all in good condition I opted to leave them in position this champ must be ready for JUNE !!!!:nut:
-
Am using wire wheel cup brush in a 4" grinder plus ordinary wire brush, scraper and old paint thinners to degrease plus lots of elbow grease :nut: the best bit is removing the old underseal in the wheel arches the most effective method found so far is a blowtorch and scraper:wow:

Wotcha Boom Boom am thinking of bringing the jeep or even the Norton to this show you running down there in convoy ?

Checked nipple height this morning all is satisfactory will check champ out later today
I am yet to experience as I dare say RR is on his Champ, but if the BB's in the nipples are seized I suppose the right thing to do is replace if unserviceable with a genuine 11B nipple?Alternatively a good old soak in diesel / parafin may free them up. As with modern / smaller grease nipples it tends to be the little springs that fail if they corrode internally............
I can see a lesson just on lubrication Nipples on the horizon.................
Jeremy have you noticed a difference in 11B heights or stand off on you Champs like Clive suggests on the PIG......
Food for thought in case a tight space tolerance sheers the head off an 11B that is too tall and then you lose fluids........
Please note the PC description avoiding Nipple heights.................................:-X:-X:shocked::shocked::shocked::mad::mad::mad::-D

Need to check out some details on my trailer sometime, so if you want to to be introduced to Mr Coates of all things Landrovery give me a shout and We'll pop over to have a chat, thats a lovely looking oiler that you've got there for me mate if you need good cheapish oil localy try forest lubricants they are in Bream not for from the shotblasters. They will supply any grade either in 1 or 5 gall drums they also do antifreeze and engine cleaner fluid.
Cheers RR.

Two wheels on my wagon or so the song goes, have managed to paint front axle etc and refit the front wheels
Its beginning to start to look like a champ again now the front wheels are on the deck tomo I can start refitting the rear brake cylinders, petrol tank is now stewing I will leave it for while before fitting.
-
At last the tank is sealed, after much cleaning drying etc as the weather was ok this afty I have managed to use the POR15 to seal the tank, its in the garage now drying will be next weekend before its ready to fit have to make up a new fuel pipe from tank to filter as it was full of gum etc.

Hi Simon and welcolm
Anything that could be removed was and then shotblasted and primed, black underseal under the wheel arches i removed using a blow lamp and scraper carefully :cool2: have'nt tackled the chassis yet but it looks not too bad so will sortit when I get the time as I am concentrating on getting the brakes up and running at the mo.
Have some repairs to do to the cills and odd bits to the floor pans but the main body will be sanded down primed and glossed from experience I want to make sure that the systems are all ok rather than trying to fix them on the side of the road
Cheers RR.

Must confess thats a cheapo haidryer from epay even I'm not daft enough to pinch the wifes bit of kit :wow: cleaned the tank again this evening its the last time as if I clean it any more it'll begin to scream will seal it thurs as weather looks good.

Had a good look for plates but could not see any, have decided to make new tub sides as the floor panel seems not too bad but will know more when I get to lift the tub off luckily the inner wheel arches are salvable and it should look nice behind the champ
Hi Rivet,I havent got much in the way of reference material with me currently, but it looks like a Mk2 1/2 tonner, from aprox 1956 - 1958ish. I think Brockhouse also made the mark 2, as well as Sankey, does it have the chassis plate still?
Personally I think its well worth restoring, hows your welding ability?
Seems a shame to put a later tub on, as these 1/2 tonners are fairly scarce these days, plus yours seems to be fairly complete

according to a Champ lubrication chart it states to use EP 90 on a fair few lubrication nipples which set me off to ask the question
just a quick question, I have been using grease to lubricat the different point on my Champ, is that wrong?schould I be using a SAE 90 oil instead?
Cheers

tell me you made an offer for £55 and they took it ? hope I can borrow it some time to lube the champ thing

Doh !! I have one of those oil pumps similar to that down t'shed forget I had it to be honest but will it pump EP 90 through those slide on nipples ? my old pump thingy only has a piece of garden hose attached at the mo But I am sure I can adapt something to make it work if not will have to keep an eye out for one shown int tuther thread.
Hey Wayne wonna borrow an oil pump thingy ?? :cool2:
RR.
Jeremy what does that look like then??Clive is right I am on the look out for the corrector applicator and as soon as I get one, we can share......
It may be something you will spot first at Malvern????? If you look at my pig thread you will see the precise piece of kit that does the magic :cool2:

Am restoring Austin Champ 05BE56 and need to lubricate nearly every point with SAE 90 oil instead of the normal grease it has the slide on type nipples whats the best way to apply oil to the nipples that need it :cool2: I have a slide on adaptor for my grease gun but would like to know what to use to apply the oil do I need a special peice of kit ?
Thanks RR.

Thanks for info had a good look for plates but no luck so far, the tub sides are plain and the inner wings have curved 90 degree bends to them will have another good look for plates as I will attempt to move it down to my shed soon so that new tub panels can be fabricated.
Don't rule out J. Brockhouse.. If the nomenclature plate is missing - could be difficult now to identify.http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?12157-Questions-on-Brockhouse-trailer
There were plain sided tubs as well as pressed ribbed reinforced sides. Pressed (curved 90 degree bends) inner wings - clue.
Any brass C of G plates centre of wheel-arch or holes remaining ?
ISTR the chassis (rolling) in the main for narrow-tracks were built up by Rubery Owen (some components such as wheel rims off Sankey) , they were bodied up by Brockhouse, Sankey or Pressed Steel / Roots (who fitted the electrics & finished off).
The later narrow-track contracts , in the main by Sankey & Pressed Steel would be the GP trailers but Brockhouse tended to get the contracts for finishing off equipped trailers for such as LO (but ISTR - the basic trailer may not always have been their build up).

Had another look at the trailer today and its ripe ok, trying to decide wether or not to start restoration, how rare are these trailers ?
Anyone have any idea on their worth if I could find one for a reasonable amount I may consider breaking this one for spares then again I like a challenge :nut:
