  1. Could be, So it may or may not be a USMC Jeep there are as yet no signs of yellow stencils that and the lack of holes for hooks makes me wonder if it is a Marine Corps vehicle though it has the rectangular repair slot for the generator pulley that could be a Greek post war conversion.

Mechanicaly the jeep is very good and original no WOF or repro bits and once restored will be a great little jeep.

    Cheers RR.

  2. Called by to see my mate today and took some pics of his Jeep

At the moment he is considering his options on restoring it, I note today that there are no hooks or rings fitted though the floor has been patched where the belt for the generator went.

  3. At last my old mate has got himself a Jeep, its a 1942 Willys and it was used by the Marine Corps as it was fitted with radios and generator and still has the wartime applied camo in places can anyone direct me to more information on these vehicles please ?

    Cheers RR.

  4. I had a similar problem with fitting heat and sound deadening mats to the Chevrolet as heat from the engine affected the spray on glue I tried first in the end I used Sticks like Sh1t yes thats what its called, its an adhesive used a lot in the building industry and really does what it says on the tube the only drawback is that you have to spread it by hand from the tube rather than spray it on as its applied from a mastic gun but saying that its really very good.

  5. Not too much happening with the mw this wkend as the weather was sooooo nice took the champ to a local steam rally on sunday and only did a few hrs today.

and replaced all the rotten core plugs will look at gearbox and air compressor next along with the the generator.

  6. Before the oil pump is sorted I thought I'd look at the master cylinder, eeeeeek !! well after a bit of heat and a very large spanner I managed to take the thing apart and unfortunately the bore has suffered from corrosion and will need to be sleeved, anybody know of a reliable company that can do this ? also the filler cap is so corroded its beyond help so if anyone has spare they don't need then I'd be very gratefull.

Another question I have pondered over is that of paint, I was chatting to john "rippo" the other night and mentioned that the chassis, axles, steps etc were all painted black with no trace of army green anywhere, was this the standard finish on early MW's ? were the cab and body only painted in the army green ?

The black paint certainly looks original and its present between the wing bckts and chassis as well as the bckts for the rad, I would like to put the vehicle back to its original state as near as pos and if the chassis was black then that whats its going to be :nut:

  7. Yes I too will be looking for a belt well two really as I'll want a spare if you have any luck give us a nod please :cool2: I have to find a new water pump first as the one fitted to my engine is the wrong type plus it leaks

  8. Do you have the .402" stems ? as mine are .340" and do you have the same arrangement with the felt seals on the inlets ? was you exhaust valve shot ? I thought mine were as there were pitted but was lucky to have been able to have them refaced.

Now heres the question I am rebuilding the head on the Mw and noted that there were only caps and felt seals on the inlet valves on the exhaust there were only the base of the caps that retain the felt washers, should I stick with this which I believe was the set up for leaded petrol or what ? as I will be using unleaded with an additive should I fit the felt washers and cup on the exhaust valve stems as well ? :undecided: help please.

Having removed all the in and ex valves it was obvious they needed fettling so I took the head to Moss Engineering in Ledbury and they refaced all the valves and recut the valve seats plus they refaced the manifold jointing face as this had suffered from heat damage.

They turned it around in a day and only charged £90 inc vat :D am off to Dorset tommo to look at a jeep for a mate and hope to pick up all the necessary gaskets , clutch plate etc which should get the engine clutch and gearbox sorted :D

  11. Hi Andy

Have my head off as well and all my exhaust valves have that light colouration and on close inspection the valve faces and seats are all pitted and could not of been a good seal, I am off to a machine shop tomo to get them refaced I am also going to have the exhaust manifold face skimmed as well because this has suffered over the years, will post a few pics on my blog tomo,

    Cheers Jeremy.

  12. Sump off OMG !! 3/4" gunge in the bottom I knew it was bad as when I tried to drain oil out I had to clear the drain hole with a peace of wire before the oil would flow !

Got the head off all seems ok, needs a decoke and will check the valves etc thankfully bores are good I have also removed oil pump and dizzy for overhaul and have brought all the parts back home so that I can work on them in the garage.

Can anyone tell me the best place to get a full engine gasket set I thought I had some head gaskets but they are not correct :undecided:
