That appears to be another Canadian Mk.I (US style turn signals on fenders).
As for tires, I've read of a few folks over on ferret-heaven using the standard 9:00X16 NDT (bar grip) tires on their scout cars without problems. There have been several threads over on that site about it.
Matt
Hi, Ihave 7.5x16 NDT fitted to my morris PU on brit rims and they are giving no problems. Got that size as 9x13 were just not around.

Indeed, i seem to recall seeing this on this very forum, I would suggest that Danny do a search on this forum as he would at least then confirm the style of conversion as thier were photo,s attached.Regards TimDanny,Beware the assumption that this is a wartime conversion. I seem to recollect that the C8 chassis was the basis for a crane conversion that was marketed postwar.Regards, david. -
Hi There,My PU has a blackish brown steering wheel that pretty much matches the MCC centre cap, the PU is 1937 and i think the wheel is the same as the 15Cwt . The 3 centre arms are solid bakelite type stuff and not hollow backed pressing as seen in the photo above.I will have a look for the pics, not sure on the C8 types and coloursRegards Tim

I am presuming it must have been a relativley early truck as it appears to be wearing a variation of the counter scheme, so perhaps late 40 early 41 when in UK duty. Picture could be god knows as i cant see them painting it fresh. Is that a Henschell that its towing??

Must try harder to find these threads in future, looking superb and a great credit to you. Love the subject as well but i am biased, hopefully we will bump into each other and get some pics together as i am into north africa myself. Crack on with the work its looking good. Friend of mine did a marmon herrington on a landrover chasis and recieved no complaints, based on the same problem as you had....just not out there to buyRegards Tim

Re speedo cable,I had a duff one when i bought the morris PU. Give them all the info ie size of thread connectors, drive dog size and shape, length and speedy cables should be able to sort you out. Did a cracking job with mine.If your original does not have a greaser and it can be concealed its worth having one put in (thats why mine packed up originally)Regards Tim

OOps..........you might have to buy a searchlite nowHi Tim, Thanks for the link to these pictures I think you could be onto something here. Also the tubular frame that carries the canvas is higher than the standard Artillery Tractor steel roof which could, I guess, allow for the extra height on the top of the searchlight. I know where there is one in a Museum which is easily accessible to measure, so I'll take my tape with me next visit. Cheers Mel. :-) -
PS It would be worth checking out the track width of the searchlight kit to see if it marries up with the installation on your truckRegards TimHI GUYS,Photo aleady on hmvf of the subject showing lots of sweaty blokes trying to load a 90 inch light on the back of a truck, manual with no whinch but by the fifties its possible whinches were used. http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?7056-Anti-aircraft-Searchlight-LicenceRegards Tim -

Yup, looks good and yes i would like it, .........thing with small items like that is on manufacture it would probably be a percentage check of production with only some being marked. Things like weapon componants etc would be gauged and inspected at all stages and marked but not required for a padlock as long as it worked.1941 was also a period of desperate shortages so it was more important i would suggest to get the kit then be too anal about stuff, even weapons were being econamised for want of a better term.Regards Tim

Bit harsh to call Zeke a merauder.......hes only trying to help.It seems to me that certain people want to Maurauder over this thread and create quite a bit of Havoc....... -
Always found the tracked steering to be very light when comming over the hump, a very light touch is required. The worst EVER was the CAT 621 scraper. The army low loaders needed timber baulks at the swan neck so the nose of the scraper cleared and the vehicle would fit. Felt like you were hundreds of feet high in the cab! Much preffered a "normal" load up.Tim

EAU DE NIL is a tad more greeny than the engine colour, its the colour used inside the body of the landrover ambulances.Regards TimI was always led to believe the colour was eau de nil, but don't quote me on it.Steve. -
We used a Ford Cargo box body for a while to shift stores around etc, brand new off the shelf with no particular mods as i recall , an SMG fitted into the glove box particularly well .Do any of you recall the bloody awfull attempt to "civililianise" the MOD issue vehicles? I recall seeing a bronze metallic bedford 4 tonner with a blue coloured canvas , an equally hideous yellow tipper truck, and a purple 8 wheeled foden truck. Apart from the bronze colour i presume the rest were produced from the gloss available from stores, blue , red, yellow, white. Understandably when offered one we "politely" declined. And for you old lags out thier the well known game of spot the squady ( white socks)

Acording to a recent news report, some locals in burma tried to get to some of the recovered aircraft presumably to nick something and were actually shot by the local security at the site. The article states that they are hoping to start shipping in the new year.

I now own one of the tractors, which I was told saw service in the Falklands.
It is a standard ag spec 1184TW and had been originally fitted with a brockhouse torque unit ,so it could be used over there
by remote control, on terrain which had been mined. When the tractor left the Falklands it ended up in Cyprus on soil stabilization work with a rotovator, but due to stress on p.t.o was sent by the Royal Engineers to get transmission converted back to standard dual power unit.
When I acquired the tractor it had done only 243 hours, and has now been fully restored back to ag colours.

Just nosing thro the thread, nice to see at least one was rescued from oblivion. Not really surprised at the hours run, as you can probably imagine Cyprus being rather hard and rocky not a huge call for much in the way of soil stabilisation. :-DLooked to see if i had any pics of the counties left but no joy so far.
I do recall that i saw one in UK fitted with the extension cages fitted to the wheels, must have been horrible on steering
As an aside with a handle like Muir-hill i presume you are familiar with the A5000 LWT, spent many an hour of my youth sat in one of those

Cheers glyn,I had been looking at images on the web and was confused as they seem to be black and green also, i was aware the ww1 period vickers boxes were service brown colour but not sure on other types.I am currently looking thro the loft to see if i can oblige with the lewis carry handle, will PM you IF i strike lucky (memory may be a little senile on this one)Regards TimPS Whats your intrest in lewis guns anyway, apart from the obvious web name?
-
Hi Guys,
Picked up a lewis mag box at an antique fair, bit rusty on the outside but not too bad internally flaky paint etc. The saving grace is that the divider is stilll fitted along with a tube type mount and strap (presumed for the loading tool? ) and it only cost a fiver.
What would be the correct colour for the external and internal, currently the external has no finish and the internal is a pale green similar to the landrover ambulance.
Any info appreciated

Here we go again.........signed!

yeah there must be another one being built somewhere
Crass i know but to be honest and all joking aside, when you compare the differences between the aircraft sat on it undercarriage and the sad remains of the one in the hanger it seriously shows how much pure graft has gone into the resoration.
Most of what i have done is a bit of welding and cutting, once done its done, but with a timber based aircraft.........quite frankly
i am left somewhat in awe of what has been achived.
Will be a delight to see in the air.......dont foget the utube vids!!!!!!!!

Calling all USA Ferret owners
in British Vehicles
Posted
slight side bar here guys, as per my previous post my truck should be on 9x13 rubber, tyres are now available in a sand tread (not for road use as they are agricultural but good for rolling round show grounds) Inner tubes are another matter.
I spotted on a US Site that 9x13 white walls were available for vintage cars, do any of you guys know if tubes are available? (the site had no info) Tubes would need to be straight stem short suckers on the valve.
Any info gratefully recieved.
Regards
Tim
