  1. I count myself very lucky. My better half, is the one who still wants too events when it's not good weather, spends hours scraping paint, sewing canvas, etc. Even more to the point, she talks me into keeping going when I would like to give up. Mind you, as she is a mental health nurse it's about what you may expect.

    She cried when we parted with a vehicle a few years ago, I did not! She drove a 400 mile round trip in 24 hours between shifts to collect a vehicle as I was too ill.

    But, even if your better half just keeps you feed and watered, it's all good work. A buch of flowers, an evening out in your MV with a meal will all help.

  2. Goring wanted a large house on a big country park close to Plymouth for his hunting lodge. Pilots were told to make sure it was not touched, but was very close to the Dockyard and naval base. And one night the house was bombed. It was rebuilt, and it's called Mount Edgecomb. It was used as a D day embarkation point, as it has access to the sea. From the time of the house being bombed, the only bombs that fell on Plymouth were miles away from the house and the sea.

  3. Come to Plymouth and have a trip up the Tamar. Lots of gray funnel line ships here, and lots of nuclear subs. And as it's FOST (flag officer sea training), lots of movements. Every Thursday FOST fight a war at sea with lots of aircraft. And RM have lots of landing ships and landing craft here.

  4. You may know, a company has started a mobile phone directory. The way it works is, that all mobile phone are on the directory unless you ask for yours not to be. If you don't want you number given to people, text the letter E to 118800. You will then become ex-directory.

  5. To make a MUNGA pre-mix, you need to change the petrol tank (which has a mixer unit), a differant carb, differant pulleys, differant dash. The pre-mix did have problems, which is why the oil feed system was fitted in later models. I have seen exhausts made from transit ones, which work ok. But of course you need to be handy with a welder, and pipe bending.

  6. Hi, I will try and find some track rod ends. Brake master is rocking horse poo, but you can get a recon kit. The cost of posting the tow hook is about £40, so I will see if I can find a cheaper way to get it to you. I think the spare rad I have is servicable, just need to pressure test it.

  7. I think Chatfield introduced the 2CV to RM use. Lamb, was the signals man who thought out the FFR version. Someone did plan an armed version, but no idea what he was called. I don't think it got very far, as the Land Rover took over.

    But it's one of the bits of history that seems to have been lost, not much info around. Which is a shame.

  8. Hi, the chap (RM Major) that designed the 2CV FFR for the RM lives not that far from me. He came along to a few meetings locally and gave a seires of talks about the 2 CVs.

    I complete (all radios still fitted) FFR model is still in a jungle somewhere as it had to be dropped as the chopper had an engine problem.

    He shoed us some photos, of the cargo versions being pushed over the side of a carrier. These had been damaged, and it was normal just to get rid of them that way.

  9. Know the problem. We had a young springer which had the same problem. What made things worse, the vet did the WRONG leg! So the dog then had both back legs u/s. My wife is not the type to get upset, she is a nurse. But I have never seen the vet so scared, when he told us he had done the wrong leg. The spinger is now fine, and thorwing it'self around like normal.

  10. The WS 19 was used in tanks, mobile command vehicles, fixed stations, and was flown for ground air liason. But the americans did not like that idea, and a radio was produced for each type of use. And normally, as has been written the frequencies were very differant for air (VHF) and ground (HF).

  11. Yes, this one is more or less just down the road from me! I have not seen it for many years, and it seems to have changed hands. Looks like the air cleaner is missing. It's ex-Dutch, and the last time I saw it was in reasonable condition.

  12. Yes, the club had ATE make hundreds of brake hoses a couple of years ago. it's just in UK, we don't think much of them. Someone is even making body panels in Germany, and VAG still support many spares as a matter of course.

  13. Hi, think that one went for breaking. But it may have been saved. In Germany, MUNGAs are almost as costly as jeeps! I know of one German chap who came to UK on holiday, just to buy a MUNGA and take it home on a trailer.

  14. Sorry if I got it wrong. This looked like something that was on Ebay a few years ago, and WAS a scam. I just wanted to make sure people knew to check.

    My brush with DVLA about tax exemption got this reply "Vehicles used solely for the purpose of agriculture, horticulture and forestry are exempt from vehicle tax".

    Again, sorry if i have it all wrong.

  15. A warning!

    An Iltis is being sold on Ebay. It claims to be tax exempt, and has been chanded to from petrol.

    VW did not start serial production of the VW183 Iltis until 1978, so no vehicles can be exempt taxing.

    The way it's worded, the chap knows something is not right and wants to shift it. It's also been turned over to 12 volt.
