  1. No probably too far to travel Plus it's not really a show able vehicle I just wanted a shooting wagon really
  2. Very little due to the weather... Hoses arrived Friday, so will get them fitted this week, so it will be useable next step is to collect my sankey trailer and make it road worthy apart from that not sure what's next yet!
  3. Thanks, its getting there.. but there always seems to be something new todo.. have now discovered most of the hoses for the artic heater are perished and need replacing, and the original fitment of it seems a bit of a 'bodge' like one hose that goes the the gearbox tunnel is resting on the hole that was cut for it, the sharp edges gradually cutting through the hose.. and the rest of the hoses are short pieces joined together still keeps me busy i suppose!!
  4. i decided i would give it a temporary coat now with basic cleaning first, then when the weather is better i will re-do it properly i went for the marcus glenn satin paint, and i must say it is a close match, take a look at the photo below, you will see the wing is almost exactly the same as the wing boxes, the paint dries quite quickly and has reasonable coverage
  5. Hi Loggy you mention: army Sqn/Corps unit ident sticker.. what should i use on mine and where could i get one?? thanks
  6. Is it possible to obtain an idea of the history of a vehicle from anywhere i know its reg no was 75 KC 51 ?? richard
  7. Thank you for the replies.. i will get some of the MG satin paint... then decide how much effort i want to put into the cleanup.. its not intended as a show vehicle, its a toy and something to go shooting in, so while i would like it to be authentic'ish'... so i may do what 13BK76 says for the time being, then when i have the time, and can get it under cover take it further thanks
  8. OK im new to this, i recently acquired a Landrover 109 FFR that was in a really sad way, i now have it running and MOT'd so the next step is cosmetics, as many of these vehicles it has about 90 layers of different coloured paint applied whats the best way to remove this?? paint stripper?? The second question is what paints and what colour do i use again, plenty of places selling what is classed as 'nato green' but this looks a little light to me?? Here is a photo as it currently stands! and another a few weeks back any advise in relation to this vehicle will be greatly received richard
  9. been thinking a little overnight.. as a safety net incase then relay sticks again, could i pass the output from the shunt box through a marine split charge relay before connecting to the battery as this would stop the risk of the current passing back to the shunt/generator box?? plus the fitting of a battery isolator switch?? just thinking worst case here! what are your thoughts?
  10. Hi, I Richard, based in southampton, found this site whist looking for help with my latest purchase, a Landrover 109 FFR I looks like there is a lot os usefull information here So Hello all Regards Richard
  11. Hi, I Richard, a new Landrover 109 FFR owner sorry my first post is a long one, but there seem to be people here that know about these things :-) I recently purchased a 109 FFR, which i had doubts were charging regardless of the fact that the ignition light going out! speaking to the previous owner, when the radio was taken out, the cables were not insulated, they shorted and killed the generator.. he had the generator reconditioned, then never used the vehicle again i found that the battery charge cable from the shunt box was not connected to anything, but was simply wrapped in insulation tape i metered the cable with the engine running and got 29.3v, so figured this would charge if connected i stopped the engine, touched the cable on the positive there was a small spark, i metered this with the positive and was seeing 24.8v meaning that the cable had gone from positive to negative. i removed the cover to the generator box a fv 760735 no.9 mk.4.. i found the relay to be closed, a light touch and it opened.. i then metered the charge cable and the negative read had gone, closed the relay by hand (engine off) and the negative returned i have removed the box from the vehicle and found that if i meter from the generator box casing to the relay bracket (connected to the top of the capacitor) with my avo meter set to 20k i get a reading of 5.86 (is this normal) when i close the relay by hand the carries across to pins a&b to the shunt box, hence giving the negative to the battery i assume i have been lucky, and the generator is ok, as i get a reading of 29v from it??? what is my best way to get the batteries charging again in a safe way?? Thanks Richard
