  1. I usually try to take my vehicles into the arena whenever there's an appropriate slot.

I'm just interested to know why so many people don't take their vehicles into the arena at shows...

One reason I don't take my vehicle into the ring is security.

No-one to watch over the rest of my stuff while I'm in the arena.

Especially , given there are some light fingered people about, who will chance there arm when you are standing there , let alone be trusted when your not there!

Even chained up quad bikes are not safe at W&P!!!

  2. Hi John that's interesting about the plate as I thought it might be much later ? if its 37ish then it might be better on the bowser and sell one of the others ? taking of 'bowser fleet' do you know anyone that might like a 20cwt bowser ? I have 2 to sell which are good starter projects ;)

hi, I would be interested in one. I'm happy to take on a restoration project. How much would you be looking for it? Doug

  3. looks like a nice day out. I was hoping to join you guys. By the way I'm researching those airfields. Down ampney , Blakehill ( cricklade) and broadwell are the main glider /airborne airfield for British troops on D-Day and market garden. The reference to bradwell grove intrigued me. I think this is the hospital complex which received casualties from D-day and was next to broadwell airfield. Anyone got any further information? Doug

  4. You will need to change the bracket if you buy the kit other than that just make your own

it isn't that hard when you buy your alternator pick one that is a popular model i.e. from

a popular car in the scrap yard that way you will have a plentiful supply of cheap replacements

if you are still looking for a 12 volt starter motor I a spare

    commander

interested in the starter motor. how much do you want for it?

  5. The number of teeth on the M201 starter are the same as MB/GPW. The M38 had a bigger ring gear if i remember correctly.

I just fitted a modern denso starter to my Hotchkiss/Willys salad jeep, it was cheaper than a repro original style and a much better quality, provided your not worried about the original look they are a great alternative. i will be getting another made it a couple of weeks if your interested i could get an extra one done at the same time.

sounds good. I'm interested, how much would it cost for the starter motor?

I've got a distributer and 12v coil and saw a guy selling kits for the alternator change if the bracket holding the alternator to the M201 block is the same as for a GPW.

  6. I want to drop the voltage on my hotchkiss from 24v to 12v.

As far as I can see the main stumbling block is the starter motor. I understand the number of dog teeth are different on a 24 volt starter motor, is this correct? If it is how do I get round it?.

I intend to go for a 12v alternator and change the distributor.

reason for looking at this is to clear the engine bay and make it easier/ cheaper to get parts. Some 24v stuff costs an arm and a leg. Better to change now than wait for big things like the regulator to fail.

Anyone done it and have any advice?

  7. hi, I suggest its because when you run the engine for a few minutes it wasn't hot enough for complete combustion and hence the soot. Should be fine after a long run and cleaning the plugs. If it doesn't sort itself out, the piston rings may be passing oil... look for a lot of blue smoke out the exhaust.

    hope this helps. Doug

  8. be careful. I was chasing an electrical fault on my misses 77' 109FFR. managed to pull the wires on the back of the ammeter off as i was testing circuits.

Damn thing shorted and I couldn't isolate the batteries quick enough. 24V packs a wallop. Now i've got to trace the damage into the shielded cable:red:

What wiring diagram are you using? if its for a lightweight, be carefull they are not quite the same. I have found one , if you need it.

  10. Been saying the same thing for years.

How do you think mv owners feel when they have to pay to get into the show and then have to use those crappy toilets.

    They are an utter disgrace.

The next day I got back from w+p, I went and bought a toilet tent and a portable toilet.

So why do they get away with it?

  11. We heard all the doom and gloom,,, but we still went on saturday!! as MOPs:-) and we aare glad we did..... fantastic day..... arena events were good, excellent displays.

Didn't see too many puddles in the dugouts....!.... one or two areas were bad around the site but no were near as bad as we expected... we didn't even need our wellies... The ground really dried out with just a couple of days sun.

We are hoping to take our vehicles next year.so at least we know what to expect.....

Only one thing really took the shine off the day. THE TOILETS!!! :shocking: I see most at the site made their own arrangements....but those provided for the public were disgusting..... I'm surprised the organisers get away with it!!! providing in some parts of the field basically an open bucket in a small box... I really don't want to SEE and SMELL what previous depositors left... I was sorely tempted to use the nearby hedge!!

If other events like Evesham war in the vale event can provide basic, but reasonable toilets ( of the flip flop type) and clean them out regularly, why cann't they.... especially having having paid £20 on the door. (sorry.... end of rant)
