Hi Ashley! you dont know the direction u drove away from Osnabrück?
We had some americans stationed here but on the netherlands terretory, means the NL guys had a Nike rocket base and IN IT an tiny american Base
with nuclear warheads, as it was forbidden to place nukes in germany! :-)
and in case of emergency they just had to screw the warheads onto the dutch Rockets and fire them onto russian Bomber formations - of course over german terretory, as the rockets just go for max 100KM!
Funny stuff!
There was a few of these camps around osnabrück!
Vörden, there is also A British Shooting Range, a training field, ....
Bad Essen
Rheine
and a few more i have to look for!

Hi all, long shot here... in the early seventies i remember visiting an American rocket base near Osnabruck in Germany it could not have been more than 1-1 1/2 hrs by the old Bedford bus (utility). Hoping ex serving members of the forces may know of location the old base as i doubt if it exist now, probably a housing estate.
cheers

A HELLO to all you guys infected with CODE GREEN!
I´m Bastian from Osnabrück in the north of Germany! 32yrs old.
I do my best to write proper englisch, so you can understand what i mean!
I infected myself more than 20 years ago, as we had - i say sadly HAD - been one of the largest BAOR Bases in germany!
As a teen i was running constantly around on our local trainig fields, collecting all the stuff the soliders lost, and at home tryed to translate what was written on, what helped me much to improve my english....
Only my english teacher was sometimes wondering about my vocabularies as she did not know from where i knew something like "mulligatawny soup" or "blot-bang-and rub" or "hexamine fuel".... however
My dad done a music shop with instruments and as squaddies like to drink, sing and make noise we had a lot of contact to them, so i started dealing with them... this is how i got my first british army stuff swopped against a weekend hire for a karaoke system! :-D
I am less a military collector, i looked always for stuff i could use for my camping/trekking and survival adventures!
But now -sadly- in 2009 all the brits left Osnabrück!
I also done a few trips to england - dorset-dorchester-bude-exeter-durdle door when i was younger, what i liked much!
In Bude i started with my second hobbie - i bought my first Tilley Lamp and my first pressurized kero stove!
And still i collect everything what makes hot, light and where is a pump on it!
By m/ i got a quite usefull colection of military "camping" goods, what the most of my friends call "WAY TO MUCH!!!"
I always tell em - i just dont smoke and invest my money otherwise!
My third hobbie / project is a self containing survival aluminium shelter for 2 persons for 21 days including food, power, cover, communications, and whatever u need to be totally independend.
My girlfriend is not seeing exactly "the need" for that, but one day....
Still workin on it, but mostly done!
The next thing i look for is a 4-wheel driven "THING" to be converted into a camping mobile, such as a Ambulance Landrover, a Iveco 40-10WM or an 101FC we will see!
If someone got need for german TDV / ZDV Bundeswehr Manuals - i got plenty, just feel free to ask!
Thats it for the moment! Thank You For Beeing Here!

Good Mornin! Thanks to all this rapid answers!
Thats what i call a proper forum!!!
Can anybody tell me what these "FV + DIGITS" code stand for?
FV1609 you are surely right as we had some pioneers here in osnabrück
http://www.remuseum.org.uk/corpshistory/rem_corps_part18.htm
FV591679 comes up as "Shelter, Canvas"
FV591689 comes up as "Blackout, Curtain, Shelter"
May these belong to a Vehicle mounted workshop?
i think i seen a pic somewhere in another thread!
hope it´s ok that i niked the pic´s

Hi to all!
Got some questions concerning some canvas Shelter / Tent parts i got hold of,where i got no clue what they are exact made for.....
hopefully u can help me out!
no1:
pic 1+2
I guess this must be for the landrover wolf, but what for? radio screening for an nuclear attack?
no2:
pic 3+4+5
Is this part of a Vehicle attached shelter? of from a regular tent?
no3:
This is a cover with reinforced slots on the corners and is smaller as a sankey cover.... you might know!
I also look for a copy of a 12x12 tent manual
and a manual for the 10 man ridge type and bell type arctic tents
And if someone is interested...
i got a hole bunch of german TDV ´s and Zdv ´s (thats the technical and personal manuals) from the german army
and i will get some more for the german vehicles....
Hopefully i added the pictures right....
looking forward for yours reply!

Hej!
Cane someone provide proper infos or a manual about the
58 Pattern Sleeping System?
i know the
Sleeping Bag - Down Filled with attached Hood and waterproof bottom available in 3 ? different sizes
Sleeping Bag - Arctic, pretty the same but w/o waterproof bottom and more downs in it
Cover Arctic - Oliv/Green Nylon, Waterproof not breatheable
Liner - Green synthetic stuff clips into the sleeping bags
Poncho - Nylon Oliv/Green, with Hood and the extra Pushbutton line, to clip it on the footend of the sleeping bags
Fieldbed - This lightwheight canvas thing with the 4 spreaders. but this may not really belong to the sleeping system
