The Universal Carrier is obviously the Army Scrappie. Just working out how to sling the Harley in the back. 😉

Yes, the brass slider is threaded throughout, so the rod goes in on one side, and the cable ferrule on the other side. I see the pictures are all blurry, will take some better ones tomorrow.

I'm assuming (given their size) that the threads are all BA?

Ah...I’m seeing it now. How does the cable arrangement interact with the rod? Is it screwed into it?

Hummmm...is it possible to have a sketch of the system - don't worry about dimensions. It's the actual workings of it.

Monty, the brake rod screws into a small brass section....on top of this sits the spring....
This brass section is internally threaded at the bottom (to take the rod) and also at the top to take the cable......
The cable has a small externally threaded "tube" at the end to screw into the brass section on the end of the rod. This "tube" is prevented from coming off the cable by a very small nipple soldered onto the end, and this must be the same or slightly smaller in width than the "tube" otherwise it will prevent the tube from screwing in to the brass section at the end of the rod.......
The entire ensemble fits within the brass outer casing that attaches to the fork. It can be a real bugger to fit as with everything being largely hidden inside you can't always see what you're doing ! Hence the need for decent threads and accurate soldering.......
The ML front brake assembly is similar in principle and construction to that fitted to Triumph's and Ariel's although those components are larger and not interchangeable with the ML.....
That's an amazing description. I'm not sure on 2 readings I quite understand but thank you. I'll see if Welbike can help ... if not it's off to the lathe. Luckily I've got lots of brass rod, both hexi and tube and lots of BA and BSF taps and dies. They've already been busy making new parts (I had to fabricate the rear brake bits).

How is the cable attached to the rod?
Is there a spring inside the housing?

I don't have any of the bits. Just the hole.

Monty, do you mean the assembly between the front brake cable and the brake rod ? I'll have a look tomorrow to see if I've got anything in the workshop...
Yes the bit between the cable and the rod.

The only bit I'm missing now is the front brake linkage on the forks. Anyone got any parts of it? Otherwise it's off to the lathe.

Anyone know the font and size of census numbers please. I see so many different ones, I can’t believe the MOS didn’t have a standard.

We see the usual pictures of ML's. I've found these in various places, unfortunately they're all a bit indistinct to be sure. Is it a James or something else (maybe a flea). It's the bike in the background on the first shot although the front mini panniers look interesting too. I think the second shot may be a back view of the common shot of the commadoes advancing and pushing an ML.

What's the census number calculation for the frame number 1190 please?
Also which fuel tap did they leave the factory with. Mine have two different ones.

Regard THIERRY
I don't have the parts list, which is it?

I’m interested in the arrangements for the return springs on the centre stand. I have seen 2 different arrangements.
The frame you can see there has my homemade centre stand on it, while the other one has the conventional arrangement ... but is splayed out to make it virtually useless on all but flat tarmac.

I've (greedily) got two.
Frame No. Engine Number

Excellent. On the one I've seen, the bit on the bottom is steel not brass (part no. 30, nut, front brake rod, adjusting).
Any thoughts?
