  1. Adam, did you have to do anything other than wash it to prep the old paint to be painted over? I have a Mk 2 thats been painted gloss white. The paint is good and thick and I plan on using a Marine Corps Semi-Gloss that comes in either gallons or spray cans. I plan on using the spray cans personally but was going to possibly sand blast it to prep it better for the paint. Did you prime or were you able to just paint over?
  2. Oh wow! Thats EXACTLY the kind of help I was looking for! Thank you so much for taking the time to diagram that out. This is going to save me a ton of time! Thank you very much!
  3. Hey gents, is olive drab as appropriate a color for a pig as deep bronze green?
  4. Nobody? Surely someone has had to repair a wheel station! :-D
  5. Mainly, I am considering removing the barricade remover to make it more convenient for the road in the U.S. and it appears both bolted and welded and the paint makes it difficult to tell without actually removing some of the bolts. Do any of you know if it is welded or just bolted?
  6. So, I got my Pig in February. Its a nicely maintained Mk 2 that was used by a police department in Alaska for a few years. They added a non stock fuel filter and a very nice heater that is actually connected to the radiator as well as a pre heater for the engine that you can plug into the wall. After playing and moving it around a bit, I was thinking of removing some of the armor to make it a bit more mobile. I removed the protective plates that hang off the rear of the vehicle and was thinking of removing the front ram bars. Part of them appear to be bolted on but it also looks to be welded in several large areas. I havent inspected it that closely yet. I also considered removing the armor from the hatches on top. I will probably leave the door and roof armor alone. I am thinking of user friendliness and mobility as the concerns here. Have any of you removed part of all of the armor from a Mk 2? How difficult did it prove to be? Suggestions? Any insight is appreciated.
  7. So, one of my tracta assemblies is totally screwed and I have it disassembled to the point that I need to compress the suspension spring but have no idea how to do it safely with what I have. How have you guys done it? Any illustration would be helpful.
  8. How is that .30 cal mounted on there? Field modification?
  9. I bought a Weasel today! $2600 dollars on Ebay. Engine runs. Needs new tracks and glass for the top (Full arctic hard top) in addition to the obvious bodywork (easy).
  10. In the states, most police departments of any size have at least one sort of armoured vehicle for emergencies. The armoured car courier Brinks actually donates their used ones to police agencies for almost nothing as long as they are willing to come and pick them up. Thats very generous of them in my opinion. I think they charge a $10 dollar paperwork fee which is of course beyond reasonable.
  11. I don't suppose any of you know Ian Wallace? British by birth but raised in the states. He runs the Ferret-AFV forum and has given me much help in restoring my ferret. I know he makes the rounds in quite a few forums like this.
  12. I am sorry to hear that Mike. I try to keep a low profile. God Bless your brother.
  13. Thanks to all for the enthusiastic greetings! I have a bit of an interesting family history. I have an Irish father from Boston who was a career Army officer and a Korean mother. He retired in Georgia and that is how we ended up there. There was a lot of ill feeling about "The Troubles" even in the states as you can imagine. A lot of people in the states are of Irish descent. Though the rest of my family was in the Army, I joined the Marines which directly traces it's ancestry to the Royal Marines. I have seen your forces in action all over the world and you have always been our staunchest ally in even the most unpopular causes. I recognize this and have always appreciated it as many others do. In my opinion, Great Britain brought civilization to most of the world and it wouldn't be what it is today (for better or for worse) without that influence. I am glad to be here and look forward to learning more and more about our interesting hobby and hearing of your own experiences.
  14. Ah ok, I already have the history so it must be the correct plate.
  15. Uh oh. I would rather not know then haha. I registered it with the data plate number.
  16. Haha no that is my mothers caravan sitting behind me. I have the Ferret backed up to it.
  17. Apparently she is a Mk 1/2 that had a turret added at some point in her life. The body is mismarked as her data plate has her as OO EA 18. She is almost totally sound mechanically save for the left front tracta joint having some damage. The last owner didn't care for her very well as you can see and used spray paint to cover the original desert tan paint scheme she had. According to Bovington, she spent her life with the BAOR. As soon as I finish repairs, she is off to the paint shop.
  18. My new Humber Pig. Purchased after it was used by a police department in the states for a number of years. I plan to restore her to original colors and she doesnt need much work to boot! :-D
  19. Greetings to all from lovely Baghdad. Former Marine and present security contractor in Iraq hailing from Georgia in the USA. I have an affinity for old armour from Her Majesties service and have a Ferret Mk 2/3 and a Humber Pig Mk 2 that I am restoring at the moment. I look forward to speaking to and learning from you all! Cheers! OO EA 18 (She is not correctly marked on the hull) 31 BK 83
