  1. Does anyone know what became of those Bulgarian dug in German tanks (PzIV, Stug III, JgdPzIV etc) that were in the news four or so years ago? I recall most if not all were excavated and brought to a holding area, a while later some photos surfaced of a number being rebuilt, but to what level I am unsure. At the time there was talk of them being offered to Bulgarian museums and also public auction but I never heard any more about them. The other day a video surfaced on youtube which was supposedly taken in 2014 showing a number of unrestored Pz in a holding area on Bulgaria...is that auction likely still to happen?

  2. Great find Rick, I bet you couldn't remove the smile from your face for ages :) Be sure to use a metal detector in the surrounding area, there could be lots of hard to find parts that were thrown off and landed nearby, ground looks quite soft. Was this rare British armor previously unknown?

  3. When you consider how many wrecks he has in his collection I think he looks at it as building up assets, some like to look at the bank balance others stroll through the assets. The other day a chap was interviewed on TV, he had a classic Ferrari that he brought back in 2008 which was now valued at £10,000,000 ten times what he paid for it back in 2008. If luck is on your side those assets may accumulate 😊

    Can anyone offer advice on if they know a little back street fabrication shop or machine shop who can plasma cut a 10mm mild steel plate for me, its only rough, knock a corner off and elongate a hole. Its for work on an Avon Gas Turbine and I need to get it done yesterday!

  6. With a show as large and diverse as W&PR you are never going to satisfy everyone, or perhaps anyone! We each have our own area of interest and I presume most people, like me, only go to a show to see the subject matter that they have interest in. A show which could focus on one area of interest and ensure that they give a fully rounded view of the subject would be a winner for sure both for those with an external interest and those owning / restoring machines from that period. I suspect that the general public wouldn't care much at all, after all, if its green and has big wheels or tracks its all the same, let off a few gun shots and the family has a good day out to keep the kids from driving them crazy around the house.

    It would be rather interesting to see the demographic of the footfall at W&PR, I wonder what percentage of attendees have an active interest in MVs?

    I tend to think that an event which is created to give wartime MV owners something challenging and out of the ordinary is whats missing in the UK. I enjoyed Tanks In Town back in 2011, it had a good mix where the owners got to camp out in the woods and take there vehicles on the off road tracks if they wished and then as the culmination of the event there was the road run. Not everyone in the woods went on the run, some had come just to meet friends and hitch a ride around Mons. Thinking about it I enjoy Militracks too, so perhaps its the woods that give that extra factor in making for a perfect setting, rather than some vast expense of flat grassland.

  7. Well, finally moved in and the two workshops are ideal, water tight, warm etc.. Pity I will not be able to get any Loyd work done as I have to rewire the house, get it signed off, redecorate the whole place, put up a fence & put in a Kitchen and Bathroom! All that fitted in between working away from home for the next Six weeks and then before the end of the year another 6 week stint away. With any luck I can get the chassis back to the workshop and fit the floor along with the engine guard.

Thanks Richard; I remember the Sherman but I'll have to put down the fact that I missed the ALM Acmat, Austin K5, Bedford OXD and Fordson WOT8 to either the weather or that they were on the move when I walked the fields. BTW I did see the CMP C60X with workshop body, but I was thinking of those on 15 cwt chassis.

     

    So it still seems to me that there is a noticeable drop off in British & German WW2 era stuff. If I was Rex I'd be trying to get the stuff that goes to Miltracks in Holland to come to WPR and at the same time have a word with the French Armour Museum at Saumur to see what they could supply. British vehicles went to Normandy this year so its not impossible.

     

    I highly doubt Saumur would be interested.

    Perhaps events are getting more focused, Militracks is THE WW2 German equipment event, pity there isn't an Allied equivalent, driving through the woods at Overloon makes it a fun event for the owners too.

  9. Good luck to everyone at the show this year, especially my carrier friends, sorry that I can't make it but the wife is under the weather so I have to look after my daughter. Post some good photos please :cheesy:

  10. Did you get to the bottom of the ignition problem Rick? Or is it still a short period of fine running before being intermittent again. You mentioned in one thread that the magnetos had been changed but the problem was still not 100% fixed.
